My family and I went to the Indian Oven for a celebratory meal. It was simply amazing. We shared 3 different curries and could not agree on what was the best of the 3. The mix of flavours joined into a real taste sensation. We had been advised by knowledgeable foodie friends that this was the best Indian restaurant in Cape Town, so though it was a bit of a trek for us, we decided to try it. I don’t have enough experience of other restaurants to make the same claim, but it is certainly the best one I have been to in South Africa, and rivals some of the places my son and I went to in Delhi. Sitting outside, with lots of space, also made us feel safe in the context of Covid19, together with the fact that the staff all wore their masks correctly and continually.

Outstanding, authentic food. A vast menu to choose from including lots of vegan options which is a bonus these days. The portions are extremely generous ( we needed a doggy bag to enjoy the next day!) and the service was outstanding. Prices are very good too! Covid rules are firmly in place but not stifling. Tables are well spaced and the restaurant is open with lots of natural airflow so we felt very at ease. This restaurant has risen to the occasion and is going the extra mile to keep scarce patrons coming back. Well done!

Very good atmosphere and food delicious. Recommend the meat platter for two and trying dishes you do not normally get in the uk Indian restaurants. We went on valentines and were treated to sparkling wine and a rose at the end of the meal which was wonderful. Highly recommend this place.

Wow what a nice surprise! Fist time in Hout Bay, spotted the Indian Oven and thought we’d give it a try, we ordered the veggie sharing platter to start and my gosh it was delicious, lots of yummy food! We then had the palak panner and methi panner, they were both a yummy. The staff were amazing and very attentive and we both had a great evening. We will be defo be going back!

9 months ago, we ordered takeaways from the Indian Oven and were extremely disappointed by the watery, thin sauces, lacking the depth of exquisite flavours we were accustomed to from the same place. I wrote a review expressing our disappointment. The owner Neil, responded most graciously, apologizing for the slip in quality and offered us meal replacements when it suited us. Tonight was the first opportunity we had and were very pleasantly impressed by Neil, who, despite the lapse of many months, sincerely and warmly, followed up on his offer. We had a Dal Makhni and and a Vegan aubergine curry, both of which were superb. Excellent turning around and handling of a negative experience. Thank you Neil, we'll be back

This restaurant comes very near to the British Indian restaurants I’m use to. Poppadoms, raita & chutney. A good selection of various curries. I ordered the Chicken Kadui , hot ! It was really delicious. The rice portions are large and enough to share. Innocent is a fantastic waiter & helps you decide which curry will suit your tastebuds best... The bar also serves alcohol free beer for customers who are the designated driver. We will definitely be back.

Sorry, no , one of the worst Indian meals I have Had worldwide. The chef’s mint chutney for the popadoms was a thin watery false green with no taste. I had vindaloo and jalfreze which used exactly the same tasteless sauce which just left a raw spice taste in the mouth and the spinach and panneer vegetable dish which was almost inedible because it was so bitter and although ordered medium was actually hotter than the vindaloo. Naan was about as thick as a pancake and rubbish. Ended up throwing it all away, should have took it back but the wife put it in the garbage before I could box it back up to return it . NOT RECOMMENDED

My family and I have frequented this restaurant numerous times and we have always enjoyed really authentic indian food. The Chicken Tikka is amazing and the curry's are always really tasty and plenty of the right spices. I would thoroughly reccomend this restaurant and Neil and Debbie are the finest hosts. You will not be dissapointed. Stuart

Every year in February we are in Hout Bay and Indian Oven was our favorite restaurant. Coming from an Indian background we were delighted to have an Indian restaurant offering authentic Indian food. But this year was a disaster. We had samosas with a hardly seasoned filling which were still ok to eat with the tamarind sauce. The tandoori gobi (cauliflower) was quite raw and hard to chew, the tandoori marinade was not balanced. The hugest disappointment were the curries, chicken dopiaza and chicken kadai. Both curries are normally with tomato in a red gravy. This time they were both yellow and like a stew, with no tomato, very sweet and tasted very much like cream as if their base was both rather a korma curry. Not nice. As we don’t like to waste food we took both curries home and were reheating them the other day adding masala spices, tomato, garlic, ginger and chili. But what happened to Indian Oven? The new chef obviously doesn’t know much about Indian cuisine. Oh, and the service… very friendly but understaffed and overstrained. We waited long to give our order and the meals to be served. The poppadums that normally come as a welcome snack arrived after the starters. When our glasses were empty we were not asked if we would like to drink anything else. Unfortunately not a good experience and we have to look for another Indian restaurant in Cape Town.

Ordered the lamb & bean bunny together with the lamb biriyani. Besides waiting for approximately over 40 minutes for the food, the food presented was highly disappointing. Nowhere near authentic Indian food. When this was queried I was told that there was nothing that can be done and that I was not in Durban. Very arrogant, unpleasant staff and service.

We booked a table for 9 of us last night for my husbands Birthday. Neil and his team could not have done more to accommodate us and our requests. The food was outstanding and everyone loved what they ordered. We have been here often and never been disappointed. Thank you

The food was bland and flavourless. There was no resemblance to anything served on the Indian subcontinent. Not authentic and not good. Couldn’t recommend.

This spot has good ambience. We visited this venue due to the good reviews, which I suppose is from patrons who have not yet had great curries/ northern Indian cuisine. We had the potato-coriander lamb mince as a starter...to test the waters...dissapointing! Hubby had the lamb roganjosh as a main which arrived as a pale yellow stew with no semblance of the depth of flavour and taste that a roganjosh is expected to have. I had the Butter Paneer, which was so sickly sweet and not flavourful either. The garlic Naan came as two dry crumbly pieces of cracker biscuits which appeared to be leftover pizza dough, reheated and disguised as naan bread. If you know what Northern Indian cuisine tastes like- or any other mediocre curry for that matter- this place be a great disappointment 😞 we will not be back or recommend anyone. The service staff are attentive.
