A poor start to the evening when upon arrival there was no record of the telephonic reservation that had been made on the previous day :-(
We were seated at an outside table. Pleasant outside area although the inside dining area had a very warm cosy atmosphere which we would have enjoyed. The young adults in our group enjoyed the music in the outside area!
There were six in our dinner party and we all had the Yum Cha dining experience (4 dishes for R300). We tried a total of 16 different dishes from all sections of the menu and all were very good. The Tuna Taco, Pork Belly and the Korean Lamb were voted best dishes. The coconut sago pudding was a wonderful surprise with no hint of "boarding school" Sago. Service was efficient and friendly.

This is our favourite restaurant in Hout Bay! And we have never been disappointed with the standard of the food and the quality of the service.
We are lucky enough to eat at some fabulous restaurants around the globe and what we find with Cheyne’s is that you get all the excitement of a fusion menu, without much of the pretence you can find in some restaurants.
We think the portions tend to be quite big. I’d prefer slightly smaller portions - only so that I can experience more dishes!!!
Special mention has to go to Privilege - she always makes us feel so special and welcome and, when there are so many amazing restaurants in Cape Town to choose from, she is the real reason we return time and time again!!
Can’t wait for our return visit in November!!!

I was blown away by the authenticity of the pacific rim experience at Cheyne's. Hubby and I were transported in ambiance and flavour back to South East Asia. The food was delicious, fresh and the nuances in flavour sublime. I want to commend both the bartender and Chris our waiter on making our dining experience memorable for all the right reasons :) I was particularly impressed with the extensive vegetarian menu and stand out dishes were definitely the Deep Fried Milk and the Aubergine option. Hubby equally impressed with the Prawn "risotto" and lamb "dumplings" Go hungry if the Yum Cha experience is what you're after, I had to takeaway my dessert.
Look forward to the next visit!

The asian tapas idea is great, food is divided into 4 categories, making the selection process not easier as there is so much to choose from. We came for lunch and the suggestion of not ordering 4 dishes each, but starting with 3 each and then see if dessert is in order, was much appreciated. Portion sizes are good, and some of the dishes were presented beautifully.
Service started very attentive, but as the meal progressed, we felt it took longer for things like coffee and the bill to come out after asking. Outside seating is available but not exceptionally beautiful.

The food and presentation were immaculate. This restaurants sets standards for Asian style cuisine at a level which I have not experienced in any other part of the world including many SE Asia countries themselves.
The service was without fault whilst not being stuffy, was friendly, efficient and knowledgable.
Whilst pricier than many other eating establishments, it is exceptional value for money and by UK standards ,inexpensive.
If the owner would consider a venture into Surrey UK, I would invest and wipe the floor with most other Surrey restaurants!
You must experience for yourself but with advance booking.
Very well done to the whole team. A delight to be a customer.

The food need to be balanced and toned down so that you can taste the various elements of the dish. Food was over powering and salty in general. Said that, if they give a little attention to detail and balance the flavour profile, the restaurant has really potential.

My wife and I joined another couple at Cheynes for dinner, knowing very little about it. It was unprepossessing from the outside, but cosy inside, and we were welcome warmly. Our waitron, Sam, was friendly and helpful throughout. We all opted for the Yum Cha dining experience - a choice of 4 dishes on the menu, which is divided into 4 categories of sea, land, earth and happy endings - and enjoyed everything we tasted. Altogether it was a real explosion of flavour, and we agreed we want to return some time to try other dishes. There was also an interesting range of cocktails on the menu, all of which were offered as mocktails in the light of COVID regulations. Although the kitchen closed early due to lockdown restrictions, we never felt hurried, and the service was good.

What a pleasure to be back eating from this delicious tapas style menu! it allows us to enjoy a variety of dishes (four in our case) all of which were taste sensations. We took 3 Capetonians who had never dined there before, and they were blown away! Wish we were in Cape Town more often but we were so pleased to show off Hout Bay and its culinary excellence. Tuna tacos not on the list of dishes below but don’t miss it!!

The restaurant has a lovely relaxed ambience that boasts a very clever menu based on the four elements of the world we live in. You will find every flavor you are seeking - from Cape Malay to Karoo lamb to special seafood delights. There is also plenty on offer for those who prefer to stay with their vegetarian diet! The wine selection is refined and carefully matches the food on offer. Definitely worth visiting time and time again.

First time to visit this restaurant and loved it ! The service was great and all waiters/runners had a smile on their face and very helpful. Food was incredible. Full of flavor and well presented. Also great ambience in restaurant. Only slight negative is the extraction... on a hot summers night I feel the kitchen fumes was too prominent. BUT, I will definitely be back!

Decent food let down by unbelievably slack service. Waited 20 mins for a waiter after being seated who never arrived. Ended up going to bar to get our own drinks. Waiter still never arrived so again went to bar to order food, but told couldn’t. Waited. Asked again at bar and after yet another wait, an illusive waiter arrived in the form of a clueless teenager.
The evening went on like this and as we were there so long we were asked to move table as the next guests needed it. From the new table we could see why there was no service to our table. A nice little huddle of teenage staff (one in baseball cap) were all busy on their phones in a staff area. Even in full view of them, we couldn’t get their attention and the bill (overpriced in my opinion) took an absolute age to arrive and then again to pay. Thankfully we were in good company to find this so bad it was amusing...but we won’t be going back.

Our first three preferred drink orders (sake, pinot noir and umeshu) were out of stock. Then our waiter ignored us for 3 hours, we got his attention by getting up and walking to the bar, or asking someone else for help. We waited ages for starters, for water, for mains, for desert. I have never been tempted not to tip - sadly I did. Along the way they blamed the gas supply as well as the staffing levels in the kitchen.
Basta!
Don’t waste your time and good money. As others have noted, so we asked and were assured they had stock, they switch miso ice cream for plain supermarket vanilla.
This is a scam, not a restaurant.

Very disappointed on all levels. We have been here a few times before and have noticed that the food portions are getting smaller and smaller. R80 for no more than five spinach leaves in a tiny bowl that you are supposed to share on the 6 dishes for R480 sharing special. We were so hungry we had to order a main for R140 which was also tiny - two small buns with fish inside that were about a mouthful each. The cocktails are R100 each and are a single serving of alcohol and a fruit juice watered down with lots and lots of ice!
We spent over R880 on a meal that left us unsatisfied and hungry. You are better off going to the Noordhoek food barn for a proper Michelin star meal where you know that whilst the food is expensive, its good quality, extremely tasty and has reasonable portion sizes in a well curated atmosphere that is plesant.
Cheynes pump hardcore clubby music while you are eating which leaves you anxious and ready to get out of there (and no Im not old -and I am maried to a DJ!)
Sadly we wont be going back.

I recently visited your restaurant with 5 family members, “all foodies” and we all thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
The service was fantastic - friendly, knowledgeable and all round fantastic.
The drinks were thoroughly enjoyable with all 3 ladies saying their cocktail was the best drink they’ve ever had - one with Japanese Gin.
Then the food...goodness me! Every dish was so tasty and packed with flavour. Portion sizes were generous and great value.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and are so thankful that a friend of ours posted an image of their visit to your restaurant so that we were able to discover the absolute treat that it is! Cant wait to return

Four of us arrived for dinner on Wednesday evening and from the start I got the impression that no one could care less if we were there, or not. An eclectic decor but the poor lighting (presumably deliberate?) made it gloomy as opposed to “atmospheric” which is probably what they were endeavouring to achieve. Menus were presented but not explained and when we asked for help it was not given with particularly good grace! The food, when it did arrive, was mixed, with some dishes receiving full marks whilst others such as the Mumbai beef were very disappointing. All in not a good experience which I couldn’t wait to end - and poor value for money. In today’s competitive environment, the management needs to sharpen up.
