My partner and I were wonderfully surprised by how lovely this pub was, after we spent roughly 70 minutes in Hell in the BS ‘Asian’ restaurant nextdoorish (I am from Hong Kong and the ‘Asian’ restaurant degrades and defiles everything Asian stands for) where I simply agreed to watch my otherwise starving partner eat. Only after we had sat down on the barstools as the pub was completely full and ordered our drinks and scotch eggs and chips - which were fantastic - did we realise it was quiz night! We were slightly too late so couldn’t formally join, but it was good fun all the same. The owners and staff were all very friendly, and our fellow pubgoers equally so, and the place was super clean and air-conditioned! Will definitely return. Dr Phil Chan

On arrival this appears like any pub eatery. It’s a bar with food. The menu is predictable and dull. But when we asked about the ‘specials’ we discovered around six distinctive and attractive dishes. Mrs M has the pigs in blankets followed by homemade fish cakes. I had spiced chicken wings then chicken breast in a blue cheese and pear salad. All fresh, well cooked and presented - and excellent value. We will go back!

I've been coming to Woodies for years, I have only ever had bar snacks before though. Went a couple of Sundays ago and had the Sunday Roast. Amazing, the whole family where happy. Not surprised at all as the food I've had before has always been top notch!

Several visits in the past have been pleasant enough. However my first experience of Sunday Roast was less than happy. I invited friends and along with my family booked for Sunday lunch. As said, this was the first time I have gone"off menu" and ordered the lamb roast. The plate arrived with about 4 pieces of very thickly sliced meat, grey on the outside and pink inside with thick fat along the edge, probably about 20 -25% of the slice was fat. To add to this, the meat was as tough as rubber (even the steak knife given with cutlery wasn't easily cutting through it) and looked more boiled than roasted. Frankly my home roasted lamb is about 500% better tasting, looking and is cooked till it falls apart in shreds (pulled lamb style full of delicious flavours). Then a small helping of beans and carrots and the rest of the plate filled with yorkshire pudding (I didn't order beef!) and piles of potatoes. Gravy on the side. So I asked for a retry of lamb or a conversion to beef roast as this was inedible meat and as I don't eat carbs there was not going to be more than 2 mouthfuls of edible veg for my ZAR 120.00 I think it was priced at. Another 2 pieces of meat were brought, minus fat, but still too thick, still too rubbery and tasteless. Embarassing to have brought my friends here.

Arriving there's much outside seating which looked inviting. So we popped in for Saturday lunch. However, the food disappointed. Chicken salad was ok, if not underwhelming. Ordering the jalapeño slider, the burger looked good, but sadly the patty was most dry and tasteless, and definately not fresh. The side order of chips was overdone, after being reheated. After our server presented our food, then not seen again. No check-in, no further ask if we wanted something more, and went to the bar ourselves to pay the bill.

Had seen this pub before but never stopped. Tried it out today and was pleasantly surprised. Was greeted by the most awesome smell of good food the moment we walked in the door. Service is casual but attentive. Owner was very hands on. Had a light lunch and everything was so tasty. Loved the sweet chilli jam. Reasonably priced for the area and season.

If you like the casual vibe of a local English pub, give Woodcutters a try. Plenty of beers to try on tap and by the bottle, plus solid pub grub.

Good food, good beer, good atmosphere, good prices. This little pub really is great, so if you're looking for something like a traditional Britih pub ... what are you waiting for? We look forward to returning.

Can't speak too highly about this place --- the staff ( especially the manager) are more than welcoming! Food is good ( and over the years we have tried most of the food available, and cannot fault anything!) We didn't want to come back to Cornwall --- and can't wait to see everyone again next year. Pasties might need to be considered for your next menu Stuart

Woodcutters Arms - Houtbay... The short... Excellent value - good food - perfect setting. Details... Wanted my guest to see Houtbay - chose Woodcutters as they are Doggy Friendly and have good beer. Sat outside under trees with a clean table - waitress brought me a comfortable chair quickly ✅ Drinks order speedily arrived ... and , the craft beer level was above the line - a small bonus , but sometimes the Barmen are really stingy and I appreciate the little extra ✅ The specials board had a fair range - we both chose the chicken pie (R92) , mine with salad , guest with garden veg. The pie was average size , but plenty big (even when sharing with my furkid) with lotsa meat , no gristly bits and tasty carrot bits (not over cooked - just right) Pie was hot thru... obviously fresh and very tasty without having overload of spices n herbs. ✅ The garden veg was not the standard , included mange tout , and perfectly cooked - guest approved ✅ My salad was excellent , fresh , crispy , lotsa different bits including my favourite radishes with a light dressing that was just right - didn’t need extra. ✅ I was catching up with my guest so forgot to take pics 🙏 sorry ... Service was attentive and not intrusive - and the owner ( a fellow dog appreciater) chatted to us confirming service was good... ✅ The Bill came promptly and was accompanied by endearments ✅ ✅ ... so often restaurants put cheap silly sweets with the bill and spoil the chance of a lingering good vibe - only your dentist appreciates them ! 😉 We left a cash tip... and complimented the owner... My guest was very happy with the experience ✅✅✅✅✅
