This is a must place to go and eat - its where the locals go to have fresh fish and definitely snoek! The service is always great and the staff is very helpful. My brother in law accidently dropped the sauces which you have to pay for and they kindly replaced it without charge. The grilled snoek was very tasty and freshly fried chips yummy. My sister was very happy with her hake and chips and the fresh rolls is a plus. I highly recommend all visitors to Hout Bay to drop in at Snoekies it a must its also family friendly.

When in or near Cape Town, fish and chips ought to be good; Snoekies in Hout Bay does not disappoint. We took an early lunch here, and both the "lunch box" (hake pieces and chips) and the "value hake meal" were absolutely fresh, piping hot, and delicious. The service was also above average. It may be worth ensuring you arrive before the rush.

Good quick bite

This is a order in line take away café, but there is sit down place inside on the second floor with a harbour view. Ths fish is excellent but at the same price as ocean baskets feesh and chips but served in a take away manner like the the local fish and chips cafe 'round the corner'. The setup is a bit confusing and the staff not very friendly. There were some plates and cutlery available for self service sit down, but this was not communicated to us. Since we chose to sit on the top floor we asked someone who was working on this floor for cutlery and was given a paper plate and soft fork. I really struggled to eat the delicious fried fish. When we left however we saw the plates and utensils as we left the building. Food is good, but bit pricey for take aways.

Inconsistent portion sizes + pathetic customer service

It's been about a month since my last visit. Ordered take aways and when I got home, I was left disappointed with my order. All the items were there and the quality of the food was fairly good (as it usually is). However, the portion sizes were inconsistent. There were glaring differences in portion sizes between two identical orders. What's even worse was that both portions were much smaller than the sizes on our previous visits. In fact, the hake in an ordinary hake and chips meal looked like the hake I had previously received in the value hake and chips meal. It was simply not worth it to drive the 30+ minutes back to the restaurant to complain. I had reached out to the restaurant privately on two occasions via email and their website. I have since received zero response. I even sent a photograph of my till slip and the meal I had received. If the portion we were received was standard, then it was not worth the money I spent. However, if the portion sizes were not standard, then it feels like I have been cheated out of my money. I've given Snoekies every opportunity to provide clarity, but they failed to do so. Unfortunately I will no longer be frequenting the establishment, and will no longer be recommending them to any of my friends, family members, and guests.

A lesson in how to do fish and chips badly

Fish not filleted so backbone and all included in batter. Flimsy plastic cutlery provided that couldn't penetrate said batter or attempt to defillet the fish. Also.. Disposable plastic cutlery.. Come on time to move on from this. Calamari soggy and tasteless. Chips undercooked and anaemic. How has this place got good reviews? Decent children's play area upstairs to occupy toddlers while picking bones out of the batter though.

A seafood meal in the harbour.

Went to Snoekies, in Hout Bay harbour for lunch following a local recommendation. Had hake, calamari and chips. Fish excellent thick hake fillets, well battered and fried (no bones). Calamari tender with tasty crumb. Short wait as freshly prepared. Service was friendly and efficient. The seating is basic but functional, in the middle of a working commercial fishing area but the excellent food more than compensated for the lack of scenic bay views. Well worth a visit slightly off the usual tourist trail.

Friend from SA recommended this place so of course I had to try it. Great chips! And excellent snoek. Beware of a few bones but so good. I was a tourist so not able to return anytime soon.

We ordered a prawn and calamari combo.... We had more batter than prawn, the calamari was brown in colour so i would assume it was fried in old oil... I am very dissatisfied and would not recommend this restaurant at all...

Don’t bother

Walked through a building site and a grubby harbour area to eat a fish coated in a soggy batter and accompanied by under cooked chips .We virtually stuck to the table and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Dreadful

Great fish and chips

Stopped in for a quick bite on the way to visiting seal island. Perfect quick lunch, great value for money in an amazing setting. You order your lunch inside and then go and sit outside overlooking the ocean and mountains and eat at the picnic tables. Great fish n chips.
