Papinos had been a long standing favourite of ours and it was sad to see it closing its doors during the pandemic. When I heard that it was reopening under new management I was not sure what to expect. The old Papinos was quaint and...you knew the menu to heart and it was always a safe bet. So on entering the restaurant with some friends I have to say that I was blown away with the transformation. It now has a thoroughly modern feel with an open style kitchen. The menu has also been updated by Erin and his team with the emphasis on quality food at very reasonable prices. The restaurant was fairly busy and had a welcoming atmosphere. For my part I had, what it transpires, is the favourite dish and I am happy to add my recommendation for the Hollandse Biefstuk. All in all it was a lovely evening and I am sure will be popular with old customers and new.More
Having visited Papino's (literally) since the opening night on 1985, first with our own small children and later with their small children, we always thoroughly enjoyed the experience. That is, until a few years ago when the new management really had no idea how to...run a restaurant and we just stopped going. But now there is new management again and wow, just fantastic. Obviously a lot was invested in the lovely new decor, but more importantly, the service and embiance is great again. And the food? What can one say. We've been twice now. Once for the best rare steaks ever (not an easy thing to get right, but the chef does it to perfection) and once for an old fashion pizza. Delicious thin crispy base with ample ingredients. Papino's is back 🙂 PS: and yes the print with the people in evening dress is still there.More
Had a great pepper steak and since the renovations the place looks great. The Jolly Cook has taken over Papino's and done major renovations. If you looking for a steak house visit Papino's. Great steaks, great atmosphere.
What a special evening! Karen went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and well looked after. The restaurant is cosy/romantic with a lovely fire. We started with the potato skins which were legendary and then shared a pizza which was delicious and...crispy with generous toppings. Even though we came hungry, this was more than enough for us. I Highly recommend a night cap of Karen’s home made limoncello as well as the beautiful decadent chocolate mousse with ice cream (again it was more than enough to share). Thank you Karen and staff, we’ll be back again and again, now officially my favourite restaurant in Hout Bay!More

It has been many years since we created such fond memories of Papino’s, I was very slightly cautious about returning but it was exactly as we remembered it spicy chicken lovers perfect, and pizza’s just stunning. Hidden little gem, highly recommend.

If you want the best woodoven pizza in Houtbay go to Papino's! Give their Harissa pizza a try for a good spin from the normal. Enjoyed it thoroughly and reasonably priced.

Our first experience of Papinos goes back 25 years! Good local friends told us of their recent amazing experience at Papinos: an eaterie we frequented often but had not visited for seriously the past 10 years! A long time ago. So we had out-of-town friends...in town and decided to entertain at Papinos. What a good choice! Decor wise it is still very much the same, the friendly staff and corresponding service was exceptionally warm and the menu still carries the dishes that keep and have kept Papinos classic...the revisit even though it was 10 years on was well worth it!More
We have now eaten quite a few times here when staying in Hout Bay. We went on a Sunday but they were closed. Its not necessary to book a table. We usually arrive about 6pm and park on the main street. There is quite a...wide choice on the menu and we have never ordered a pizza here so I cant comment on those. We usually opt for a steak which is well presented and served the way we like. And hot which is a bonus! We would recommend eating here when staying in Hout Bay. The bill will be reasonable and the food well prepared. Sometimes the service is a bit slow but I dont mind that for well cooked food.More
