A great spot for lunch on a sunny day. Staff very friendly and the food is fresh and delicious. Sitting outside on the terrace with a chilled glass of wine doesn’t get any better. Pricewise very reasonable so well worth a visit.

Service was very good and they were busy. Lovely setting and view. We enjoyed it there. Prawns were good but pricey as there are other restaurants very close by who offer great prawn dishes for less. Burgers were fantastic. Cheese cake was very nice but...literally the smallest piece I've ever been served. Atmosphere is lively. We will go again. The ice cream is also very good.More

The Lookout on a clear day boasts breath-taking views of the coastline and there is something quite magical about being able to watch a working harbour, from the comfort of a wooden deck. The fishy line-up shared by us girls (with a bottle of Sophie...te'Blanche) included freshly steamed local West Coast black mussels, fresh Yellowfin Tuna Steak AND Seafood Ciopinno. From start to finish, an excellent dining experience.. Almost. When trying to order coffee, we were told that there isn't water for the coffee. When we asked the Manager, Michael why this was the case, he dismissively blamed the DA and Ward Councillor. I understand that we live in Africa and sometimes pipes burst, but taking measures to acknowledge something as simple as a trip to the shops nearby to grab some water for coffees, to me, is a fundamental basic that is an easy fix. We laughed it off, got our bill and said we'd pop next door for coffee and dessert. Sadly, that is when the wheels came off.. ..Our waiter directed us to the counter to pay on our exit, and we dutifully obeyed with a smile. As we got there, we were stood behind another couple that were also paying. Again, the approach of Mike looking at us irately who then loudly addressed the young lady at the till to "move the three ladies" as we were blocking the path of potential customers walking in. An awkward, but attentive silence ensued at this point, as we were all now acutely aware that not only had we had been addressed in a dismissive manner, but more so that Mike had done so in the third person, whilst physically standing next to us. The young lady then parrot-repeated his words loudly that we were to move further back whilst we waited to pay, which we awkwardly then shuffled across in order to do. When we reached the counter/till, the young lady looking embarrassed apologised, which I felt she had nothing to apologise for (and we all re-assured her that we got it). The sad conclusion to this story, is that if Mike had simply explained that we weren't standing in the right place and asked us ladies, we would gladly have apologised and moved. In summary: Location: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Service by Max, our waiter: 5/5 What I find undeniably tragic. Would any of us return? No.More

Extremely friendly staff got this meal off to a great start. The lady who greeted was very friendly and welcoming. Fortunately, this continued throughout the evening as all the staff were a credit to the restaurant, especially our waitress "Asazi", who was very cheerful and...had a laugh with us, despite her having some "difficult" customers on the table next to us. The location is superb, situated overlooking Hout Bay, with Chapmans Peak visible across the bay. The food was delicious, a wonderful selection of fresh seafood (although some meat options were also available). Prices were reasonable and the quality of food was excellent.More

I have just paid R135 for this plate of food. For a starter this price is astronomical for what you actually get! Shame on you Lookout Deck! It’s no wonder that the place is half empty on a Friday at lunchtime during December holidays. I...also had 6 oysters which were really tiny and very badly shucked with lots of shell left in the oyster.More

Lovely location and service. Lacking management skills when confronted with a poor quality squid starter at a hefty price now worth the money. To be honest all orders not up to the value presented.

Food mediocre. Worst I've ever had in the Cape. I always try new places. Terrible service, even though it wasn't busy. Couldn't serve a lot of menu items because the gas had run out. You must be joking, it's the December holidays. That evening I...was terribly ill with nausea and gastro. I ate the prawns and calamari. They won't see me again.More

Overpriced for the quality of seafood. I ordered deep fried Hake and calamari combo. It was battered to death and calamari was tasteless. All for R270.00. Poor food quality from a restaurant ideally positioned.

Party of 6, nice setting but food was average. Burgers tasty but overcooked, grilled calamari best of the bunch, 2 of us had nausea and upset stomachs following day after eating the prawns in the seafood combo. Waiter friendly and efficient.

I decided to give this place a go, after reading some reviews. It looked like people were having great fun on a Sunday afternoon with a band playing. I ordered a mixed seafood plate and it was just awful! The fish was just ok, the...mussels were mushy, so were the prawns (neither fresh nor grilled…) and the calamari in breadcrumbs were mushy as well. Despite my better judgment, I ate some as I was hungry. Gave the waiter some feedback. I got sick the same night. Never again!!!More

We have never, over many years, experienced a bad meal or service at this restaurant! We returned in March after 7 years away, and yet again, we were not disappointed! It felt GREAT to be back! NASH & NUNFUNDO prepared delicious cooked offerings and we...received excellent service from Lucia, Austin, Livia, to name just 3 of the amazing Team who make this restaurant such a popular place amongst Locals and Tourists alike! We love the Focaccia Bread, and the consistently fresh Greek Salad and Hake or Kinglip never fail to disappoint, both in the size of the serving and the perfect cooking for which the Lookout has become a firm favourite. The local seal population provide unique entertainment as they swim right past the windows of the restaurant ... not something you see every day! We purchased a few pizza's (Clubhouse & Meat Rail) to offer to the local children as we left the restaurant and these were fabulous too! The Lookout has a great Band playing Live Music from 3pm each Sunday which is a fun and atmospheric way to enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon. Highly recommended! We'll return next year! Thank you for the great memories!More

We first ate at the Lookout three years ago and a return visit was always going to happen. The seafood is as spectacular as the setting, sitting by the window , sun shining, seals swimming in the bay, this is the perfect place so spend...a couple of hours enjoying good food and drinks.More
