Along with formal training in Europe, Chef Nicolene Barrow worked at the world-famous Le Gavroche Restaurant in London before setting-up Orangerie at Le Lude. Here classical French cuisine is presented with a contemporary twist; the purist, disciplined approach of the European masters combined with a hint of individual, modern creativity where what is on the plate is presented looking as good as it tastes. A seasonal menu offers the finest, freshest ingredients picked from the herb garden, found in the forests, meadows, mountains and seas of the Cape, resulting in a selection of dishes offered in an environment conducive to making permanent Franschhoek memories. Gorgeous lunch that transported us to France. We missed their MCC given the alcohol lockdown but they offered Non-Alcoholic beverages as well as home made cordials and soda. The Soufflés are spectacular and the beef highly recommended. The setting is beautiful and service endearing. Highly...recommend!More

We had booked as a small group of four, we were joined by another couple and asked if they could accommodate another couple. Sorry, no. Whereupon we go through for lunch and Lo! the restaurant is only half full. Not impressed. Service was ok, a...bit formulaic and impersonal. Food was actually pretty good. It was a birthday so we had organised a cake. Four people, a cake that could have fed another forty and R400 for the cake. Really??More

There are few better ways to spend a holiday lunch than at Orangerie. The location is wonderful - fresh, elegant but casual outdoor dining; exceptionally attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff and truly delicious food. Between the 3 of us we had the soufflé (to die...for), the salmon tartare and the French onion soup. For mains we had the beef and treated ourselves to the fries and the mille fueille potatoes - worth every single calorie!!! Good COVID protocols in place. Highly recommended.More

Le Lude has it all. A spectacular setting, sublime food and exemplary service. Best meal of 2020, by far. Every course was a 5-star affair. Highlights were the Cheese Soufflé, the Melon & Parma Ham Salad and the Apple & Almond Tart. The Fillet, Mussels...and Calamari were wonderful too. Everything is so well considered and beautifully arranged. Highly and happily recommended. Book now!More

I had a birthday lunch for 14 at the Orangerie at Le Lude. What a fantastic experience. The food as allways was just delicious, lovely wines and great service, complimented by the beautiful decor of the restaurant. It is a gem in Franschhoek.

We came here while on a wine tour with tuk tuk. What an amazing place... The atmosphere is very Old France and allow you to travel back in time. We tasted 2 bubbly and add 4 canapés for R190. It is tasty, and almost a...lunch. I will definitely come back here to try the dinner and the high tea...More

Not child friendly per se, but we brought our older (8, 11, 13 years) to high tea and the staff was friendly and accommodating. I wouldn’t bring very young children, but it’s not an environment (during day,at least) where... More
