Beautiful view, nice restaurant, great food, and great wine. When we were in Cape Town our B&B Guest House host saw which Franschhoek Wine Train route we were on and said the best restaurant with the best view for lunch would be Haute Cabriere, and...she made a lunch reservation for us, they opened at 12 noon. She was right. The location was perfect as we were spending our last full day in Africa. What a great way to finish off an amazing trip.More

Amazing place with a beautiful view to the valley. The dishes very well presented but I would say the portions could be just a little bit bigger. Besides that, perfection. I had the duck and the lamb. Check out on the pictures!

I wanted to express our delight with the fantastic lunch we enjoyed at Haute Cabrière, overlooking the breathtaking Franschhoek valley. The restaurant offers outstanding views, and plenty of photo opportunities for the wine tasting visitors and the diners. We made reservations well in advance for a view table at the long wall of windows. There are the same number of tables in the room that...are just behind the front of view folks. They give you the option of a two or three course menu with a few selections for each course. I chose the line fish ceviche and my husband chose the grilled octopus with roasted red peppers. Both were delicious. For my main, I chose the trout and seafood curry, which were also delicious. The reason I didn’t give five stars was our server essentially disappeared and wasn’t easy to fly down when we needed something. Considering this is a fancy place we were very surprised. The other reason was it was uncomfortably hot in there because they did not turn on the air conditioning despite it being a very hot day. The winetasting area was refreshing cool, however. We would still come back here on another trip to the area to give it another try. Reservations are a must. This is a very popular place.More

Dining at Haute Cabrière in Franschhoek was an absolute delight from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome that set the tone for the entire afternoon. The staff were not only friendly but also went the...extra mile, ensuring our glasses were always topped up with wine and water. But it wasn't just the impeccable service that made our experience memorable; it was the exceptional food. Each dish was a culinary masterpiece, beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. From appetizers to dessert, every bite was a delight to the senses. Adding to the charm of the afternoon were the breathtaking views from the terrace area where we sat. The picturesque scenery provided the perfect backdrop for our dining experience, making it even more memorable. It was truly was an unforgettable experience and is highly recommended to anyone visiting Franschhoek.More

I have been here many times over the last 14 years (except during COVID). I brought my wife for the first time and was so excited to show her the amazing wines and how their food compliments them so well. I booked online a couple...of weeks before for 1pm. We arrived on time and when I requested 2 glasses of bubbles before we ordered food (because the MCC was always excellent), we were told we would have to leave by 4pm because there was a private function (table next to us was told 5pm). This was not made clear at the point of booking or when I received an email requesting confirmation of the booking the day before. We opted for 2 courses with the recommended wine for each course. (I went for starter and main and my wife chose a main and dessert. Unfortunately for 2 out of 3 courses they forgot the wine until prompted (my wife’s ice cream had melted before her wine arrived). The building where the restaurant now is, was like a greenhouse, hot, damp and rather unpleasant. The glass windows have previously been open but were now mainly closed which obscured the fantastic view. Staff plonked the wine down with no explanation and didn’t appear to care. I have always purchased wine after eating here but had absolutely no desire to after this experience. I felt like we were just another number to maximise profit. Such a shame. The food itself was pleasant and a small menu with everything generally well executed. I’m sure if this was a first experience it would have mainly been ok but knowing how the place has developed and grown over the years, I was disappointed. Would I go back again? Possibly for wine tasting but probably not for a food and wine experience.More

This was our third visit to beautiful Haute Cabriere over the years. It never disappoints with lovely food, impeccable service and stunning views out of the huge glazed restaurant windows. The set 3 course lunch at 490 rands is by South African standards expensive but...for those of us tourists is really good value bearing in mind the quality and presentation. It is almost Michelin star standard in our opinion. On this occasion, I went for duck breast starter followed by char grilled venison then the cheese for dessert - all superb although if I was being really picky, the cheese plate was a bit disappointing and very rich. My wife opted for the pork belly starter followed by the lamb then mango panacotta with sago - again all delicious. We ordered a side of hassleback potatoes and roasted vegetables but to be honest we didn’t need them as there was sufficient on the mains plate. Washed down with a lovely bottle of Haute Cabriere Chardonnay Pinot Noir, it was lovely to while away a couple of hours taking in the lovely surroundings.More

A great place to start the day with coffee and croissants from the bakery. The view of the valley and mountains provides a calming backdrop. The rest of the day can only improve.

I would recommend making a booking based on our experience that the restaurant was busy when we were there in February. Also, it is a very good restaurant with a beautiful view so it would be a shame to miss out!
