We stopped by after a wine tasting, having read about this restaurant. Both of us felt that every single mouthful was of the highest quality and some of the best food we have eaten in South Africa during this past month. We had a half Tapas for Two because we thought the full 8 dishes might be too much for lunch. They were happy for us to do this. It was a hot day and we ideally wished for more of a breeze but the service was excellent and the cool drinks in including our ice water, kept coming. Excellent value. Don't miss it!

there are 8 small courses , a tapas style tasting menu. Food was superb with amazing flavours and a lot of detail. Beautiful presentation. Unusual combinations, most enjoyable
My only comment is I found it expensive especially in view of the portion sizes
For tourists I guess it would be fine, but locals will find it not best value for money
nevertheless, thoroughly recommend the excellent food, service and setting

It is obvious why Chefs Warehouse @ Maison is ranked as one of the top 20 restaurants in South Africa by EatOut. They really deliver. Though the tapas for two is not cheap, the food is innovative, very tasty and beautifully presented. We enjoyed every bite. Lovely ambiance as well with lots of colourful chickens running around, not to mention porcini the pig.

It is a tapas style tasting menu with only additional choices for a starter and dessert. Our minor dietary request was attended to with no fuss and our waitress was lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, a very pleasant change of style to other foot on this trip and the portion sizes whilst possibly small for some were perfect for us. The oysters were excellent and we particularly enjoyed the yellow tail and duck plates but couldn’t really find fault. Wine was excellent too - Maison Shiraz. We were sat at an outside bench seat and for the setting sun it was stunning. There’s an aspect of the restaurant feel that is rustic but the food is modern. We would go back and we would recommend based on our experience of 20th Feb.

Actually, the couple we went with suggested this. The meal was fantastic tapas style but with ample portions. For me, the quality of the restaurant is their ability to cater for my onion/ leek allergy which the did without any fuss serving me an alternative or tweaking the dish. The food was delicious served in a restaurant with a relaxed ambiance and Fanta service and again in South Africa- fantastic value.

We love the Chef’s Warehouse concept, and especially love Thali. We had been to Maison before it became CW and thought the setting and the view were just perfect. The feel of the place is still indeed very special. However for the price one pays, one really just expects something outstanding from both food and service too.
The main problem was that the staff seemed rushed, disinterested and improperly trained. I wondered if they’d even tasted the food themselves?
One needs a very elaborate description about each tiny taster, as there really is very little to see, and there is no menu to consult. Without an impassioned food story from the waitron, the whole concept falls flat.
We enjoyed the first tasting plate of aubergine, but found the ceviche and sushi rather uninspired, and were just plain flabbergasted by one of the tapas, which was literally two baby carrots in a nondescript sauce. Again waitron dashed off before we could hear what the carrots were served in. Thinking about it now, they must’ve charged R75 per baby carrot or something like that :D. Risotto was nice and cheesy, but again, I couldn’t tell you what it was made up of - served with zero fanfare.
We were sitting at a wide table and found it really hard to share the teeny morsels. In some of the tasters there were a few different sauces, but how do share them across a wide table? One would think that if the menu is only for 2 sharing, they would do more to facilitate that? No bread served to mop up sauces, that was extra. No sweet course, that was extra.
Waitrons leaning across the table to serve and remove plates, despite having access from all sides.
At 4K for 4 people with only 1 bottle of cheap house Rose between us, we ended up leaving feeling very ripped off instead of treated, cared for, indulged.

We visited this great restaurant last week and the food was very good. A Tapas Menu for two is well priced at R1100.
The choice was excellent and very good quality food, having visited both the Chefs Warehouse in Cape Town and at Beau Constantia they maintain the very good quality food.

Every bit worth the short drive out from town to do dinner here. If you can sit on the patio, it is well worth it. Views over the winery and mountains while sitting down for a pre-dinner drink are tough to beat. The dinner itself was perfect - lots of unique flavors and dishes that end up working really well together. We would strongly recommend this restaurant for couples visiting Franschhoek!

Having eaten at the Chefs Warehouse and canteen in Cape Town and loved every minute, we were excited to try out the sister restaurant.
Unfortunately all the similarities stop with the name! The food was average at best. The flavours don’t go together and everything is far too rich! The menu does not work.
In addition, the service was awful....we had to request drinks etc multiple times, and had to work hard to get service staff attention. There appears to be no logic/structure in who serves which tables. Thankfully, mid service an excellent waiter took over (whose name I forget)...the other 3 or so waiters remained disinterested.
As per other reviews the wine was excellent.
For the life of me I can’t understand the positive reviews for this place. I hope they resolve the food and service, as the Cape Town sister restaurant is truly amazing. Unfortunately this place is a poor substitute and one I would not eat at for free.

This is the second time I’ve been here in the last few weeks. I’ve been to the Constantia restaurant and loved it but the Franschoek “branch” is a bit disappointing.. the food and chef was outstanding but the attentiveness was not there... two unisex toilet cubicles for a restaurant that size doesn’t work.. and by the end of lunch our waitress had disappeared and we were fumbling in the universal ice bucket for our water which we poured ourselves. Not a problem unless you are paying upwards of R1500 for two people at which stage I would expect 5* service!

The food was really lovely - we have been intending to come to any of the Chef's Warehouses for a while now. Last year on our anniversary there was a mixup with our booking at CW Constantia. Then we got distracted by Covid all year. Then we decided to make a trip of it and head to CW Maison in Franschoek for hubby's birthday. It would have been great if our server had explained the tapas a bit more ... she didn't seem to know what she was serving because the menu had change recently. We were also ignored for large portions of time while other tables received an abundance of attention. Finally, we were given an incorrect bill and, in the middle of paying, had to stop and redo the process. Not a huge deal, but it just felt like a long, uncomfortable evening albeit with nice food.

What a way to end a few days in Franschhoek. A bit bored with fine dining and "sliding cubes" we thought that this seemed like the perfect compromise. The set menu surprised us over and over again, and paired with the Maison estates own wines it made this a beautiful night with service being of the chart. The risotto will haunt me, we will be back!

We were very happy to get a last minute booking on Valentines day for two at Chefs Warehouse Masion in Franschhoek. We arrived at the beautiful venue, where a gentleman greeted us and took us to our table outside, on the patio with amazing views of the vineyard. Unfortunately that was the peek of our experience. Our waiter couldn’t properly breakdown the tapas style menu and had to come back to the table several times to confirm our food order. We were impressed by the look of the food however the waiter couldn’t explain the dishes properly and had poor general knowledge of the menu, we also had to top up our own beverages through out the evening. After completing all the courses we realized that all the dishes where garnished with basil, mint and parsley which doesn’t make sense for a 5 star world renowned franchise. We are regular fans of the restaurant chain however this branch didn’t reach our expectation. Unfortunately not worth the money.

I was looking forward to this meal but we left extremely disappointed.
The oysters for starters were stunning but then the set menu was mediocre for the price we were paying. Service extremely slow, disinterested in feedback. We should have read the reviews before we came here.
Do yourself a favour and spend your money somewhere else. It was a disappointing experience. Avoid.

We have visited the other Chefs Warehouse restaurant and whilst we enjoyed the experience, we felt that the Constantia restaurant has the edge over this restaurant. We felt that a couple of the dishes were not up to par, especially the parfait dish, which we found the casing to be slightly hard. We mentioned this to the waiter who said it was to be expected as it deep fried. I don't think that we would return.
