We arrived for breakfast when this atmospheric restaurant and shop was at its busiest, and were told immediately that there were delays because the kitchen was busy. We were impressed by the friendly and proactive way that the staff handled the situation and they served our well-prepared coffee and red cappuccinos quickly enough. Hearty breakfasts were also served before long. The trellised patio is a lovely cool space in the Summer and the shop is full of interesting items for sale and on display.

A spontaneous detour into Barberton to explore the town, found us this quaint and fascinating spot for our brunch. Eating farm breakfasts and homemade scones, surrounded by interesting antiques and retro items, full of history and old world stories, made us linger a little... And of course we had to order the 'Spoorweg Koffie' off the menu - a flavourful coffee blend, accompanied by a little tot of condensed milk on the side, to be added to taste...delicious!
We are very glad to have discovered this gem of a place.

We stopped here on the way home from the Kruger for brunch. It is a quaint home industry/ coffee shop/ museum.
There are many facinating old objects to see highlighting the history of Barbeton. The food was good and reasonably priced and the staff very friendly. Its nice to visit unique places like this, instead of a Motorway pitstop.

As in my title Die Plaaskombuis is worth a visit.
There is a little bit of everything under one roof, museum, gifts, refreshments, restaurant and even some health remedies.
A bit like a Pandora's box..in an interesting and fun way!
Lovely light meals are served wither indoors or out.

10 out of 10 for everything. Service was great, all the staff were delightful.
We had had a long drive, and were sorely in need of good coffee - we found it, and a meal.
We wondered around the museum, fascinated at their collection.
On the way out we stocked up on home made biscuits and biltong.

Food is excellent at a good price too, the staff are friendly, typical South African Hospitality, the private museum is out of this world, items dating back over 100yrs.
You cannot pass through Barberton with out visiting this place, it will be the highlight of your trip.

Cute little coffee shop with a mouth watering menu. Friendly service. Tasty food. We had breakfast. The owner was all smiles the whole time. Worth a visit if you feel peckish.

A nice atmosphere in a quiet part of town. Service was a bit slow but the food made up for it. We all enjoyed our different meals and it was scrumptious. The menu is interesting and well priced. A nice little café.

Flap jacks need to be light and fluffy, they must be fresh and just melt in your mouth, if you are like minded, then the flapjacks at the Plaaskombuis hit the spot. The already near perfect stack of deliciousness was made even better eating them on a cold winters day sitting next to the crackling hearth.
My companions also had smiles on their faces while eating a full breakfast and toasted sandwiches.
The Plaaskombuis is simple but good eating in the heart of Barberton

They have the best milkshakes in town!
A great place for brunch and catching up with old friends. The service is great! They have a pretty view of the beautiful Barberton mountains. Love 😍!

Although ALL their food is excellent, I think they make the best milkshakes in the entire country. Their food is very reasonably priced, and their service is prompt and friendly. Definitely worthwhile!
