A group of us went to Monks Cowl for lunch, we were served by the Manager for the most part, not sure why as there were plenty staff around... Food was very reasonable in price, not amazing but okay. Our group was not allowed to...sit together even though there were plenty of empty tables we were not allowed to join them???More

if you are looking for something else to do in the berg away from where you are staying here is a place offering a pub, pool,restaurant,golf and putt putt,the service is good but the beef curry I ordered came full of bones, when I complained...I was advised it was a beef curry, told them I was from Durban and the only curry you get with bones is fish, mutton or lamb, made them take it awayMore

This country club is now under new ownership and has drasticaly been improved. Not only is it a great cullinary experiance but you could very well book accommodation with them, which has been upgraded.

Always a good meal. Specials on several days of the week. Food is always hot. Bar attached to restaurant. Staff most obliging. Easy access to the numerous accommodation venues in the area. Also has accommodation.

We ate at Monks Cowl Country Club in April 2012. Service is South Africa can be patchy, but we have rarely if ever encountered such attitude from the staff. Decor and food reminded me of north whales c. 1975. Fairly devoid of style, and astonishingly...miserable to the taste. I had steak. Clearly frozen-defrosted-refrozen-defrosted. Disgusting. My wife had line fish of the day....angel fish. Also appeared to be c. 1975 in origin. Quite inedible. Kids froze'n'fried hake and chips was ok. We sent our meals back (first time i ever recall doing this) and asked for the bill minus the two adult mains. No comment or question....and no hint of an apology for spoiling our night. Makes me wonder how often people complain here. On a more positive note, the bar looked pleasant enough and was quite frequented. Sadly no chance whatsoever of going back though. Avoid!More
