We are situated on left hand side to Diaz Road cut se sac. The building is double story with the restaurant being on the first story. It has three parts to the restaurant. The fine dining inside section. This side will do you well when wanting to impress. The enclosed outside section is semi-fine dining, where you have a front and centre view of Jeffreys Bays breath taking ocean. Lastly we have the semi-undercover outside section. Where you can get that authentic ocean breeze air and soak up the sun or feel like you under the star while seeing the moon reflect over the water of the wild ocean.

Our first visit for a birthday celebration.
From the parking lot the welcoming sound of classy music takes you up a stairscase where you are warmly welcomed by the staff of this beautiful restaurant.
The waitress we had on our visit over lunch June 11 was simply outstanding; knowledgable, attentive, friendly, caring and went out of her way to give us a satisfying dining experience from start to end.
When our meals arrived at our table we were delighted with the truely generous portions, something we deffinetely don't mind.
Then we were even more blown away by the exeptional food itself... it was out of this world guys! Seriously. The best food we have had anywhere.
The flavour and freshness could not be beat and we have dined at other well known esstablishments with higher prices that did not come close to the tastfulnes, quality of produce used and attention to the finest details as those of De Viswijf did.
We ordered the Eisbein and the Calamari and neither of us could finish our meals.
This is our top choice for a real treat when in Jeffreys Bay or not... worth the drive.
A place we can highly recommend and look forward to bringing family to so they can share in the exeptional experience.
The restaurant takes all necessary protocols seriously and cleans the tables vigorously once cleared so you can rest assured your safety is being concerned.
Oh, and did I mention the views... breath taking! Enjoy watching surfers play in the waves while you dine.
We loved the care taken to create the calming ambiance and thea little touches to make it so welcoming and inviting, even a blanket in close reach should you feel a bit 'chilly' and just want to be comfy and cosy, how thoughtful.

I had a lovely starter (Calamari and Prawn au Gratin) here in September and decided to try the full experience thia holiday season...
Definitely a wise decision, we decided to have a variety of starters which included the gorgeous Garlic Ciabatta Roll, the Creamy Grilled Calamari and the Magnificent Mussels.
The mains were of impressive size and paired beautifully with the wine suggested by our waiter Raydene, who was quick with a smile and a funny word to say.
Would recommend this hidden gem 10/10.
The lovely and lively owners will definitely see us again.

My husband and I popped in at De Viswijf in Jeffreysbay for a light lunch after the day’s outings. We were welcomed with such friendly staff and shown to our table outside on the deck with the most beautiful view. We ordered drinks and received them almost immediately. Our waiter ( Soekie ) was very helpful with our decisions about our meals ( since the menu had so many yummy options, it was hard to choose only one !). After we ordered, we enjoyed the light, relaxing music while watching the waves of the ocean break on the shore. Then, the food arrived. We were speechless! With amazing presentation, generous portions and so much flavour, this lunch exceeded our expectations by far. We had the Seafood platter, and the both of us couldn’t finish it. I would definitely recommend De Viswijf restaurant to any tourists and/or locals. A big thank you to the owners Fred and Nadine for their gracious hospitality and for the wonderful experience.

We tried the viswijf restaurant on Sunday afternoon and saw our waiter twice in one hour. We waited approx one hour for our food and we were 3 people. We checked up twice and had no service from our waiter or apology for taking so long. Our glasses were empty and we had no check ups in between. Food was good but with poor service we wont return again.

We apologise that you experienced poor service in your opinion.
Generally people will let us know when in a hurry. Our food is prepares to order and as we refrain from rushing any of our guests 30-45 mins are generally allowed from order placed at kitchen to table, good food takes time.
The timeline cannot be measured against time of arrival, would you not agree?
Your starters were served to your table from order around 15mins from order and your mains around 25 mins from clearing your starters from the table.
You may only have been 3 guests but we had numerous other tables and guests, and as such your order is also queued as you may know.
I'd agree that your drinks should not have been empty, and cannot think that our staff would have omit this but will be sure to re-address this with them.
Also, thank you for sharing with our staff that as a chef you believe we should get our kitchen sorted at the end of your visit, nice of another chef to share.
Honestly we cannot agree with you rating as it's unnecessarily discrediting to our reputation as you should know being a chef yourself.
If you have a compliment, share it, if you find fault offer your help...
It has become too easy to share personal opinions, but we however take note.
Trust you'll find somewhere your personal expectations can be met.

My family and I made a reservation for 19:00 on a Saturday night. We were late for our booking by 20 minutes after struggling to find a parking. The owner Fred greeted us by telling us that he had given our table away and had to prepare a new one for us because we were late, we never received a booking confirmation or a call at 19:15 as you would anywhere else to find out if we were still coming. We waited 20 minutes to be seated, weren’t even offered a drink and generally made to feel like we should rather leave. Our glasses were empty for about 10 minutes before we went to physically find a waitron to help us. The owner/manager never checked on our table once and we were really made to feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. We are residents of Jeffrey’s Bay and feel like this attitude is not suitable for this welcoming community.

It sure was not our intention to make you feel unwelcome and apologise that this was your experience.
Not to disagree or dispute your review, but pleasr allow me to clarify a few of the facts, you arrived 40mins late not 20 as stated at witch point I politly explained that I have given the table away but were busy cleaning another table that should be ready in a few minutes, also apologising that you had too wait, 7mins to be exact and as I went to check that the table is ready you went to the bar to order drinks that were in turn served to your table as you were seated.
Parking was availble right in front and at the time of your arrived, you parked close as we noticed from upstairs from reception on your arrival, where you were welcomed by myself.
I myself unfortunately do not always have the time or always get to call on all our tables, but our well trained waiters do call on you and will notify us should anything not be in order.
As a local resident myself I do agree that we have a welocoming community and should carry ourselfs as such, as one could also have the courtesy to phone ahead and notify someone if you're late, or if the number of geusts reserved for have changed, et cetera. We unfortunately cannot always follow-up and have to use time as an indicator to make seating decisions, especially during busier times like school holidays as in this case, as a local you should know how busy it can get.
As a fellow local things like this can surely be resolved umongst one another by simply discussing it with one another, yet we the use of social media platforms that damage the reputation of a reputable business in the community is used and can only leave me to ask if it's not deliberate, also when considering you have only ever left two reviews on the platform of witch this is one.
Unfortunately the customer is not always right, especially when their not being reasonable or true in sharing the facts.
We'd would like to kindly request you please remove this and we further discuss and resolve this reasonably and respectfully.

Ok. Challenge to write this. We ate here today. When we arrived most customers wire no masks when entering. Nobody was concerned about Covid it seemed. The staff: they wear half face shields (I have never seen anywhere in the world) from chin to just about nose that are all open around. They make your face look pretty but hardly protect you or your customers from Covid. Sone staff also only put this shield on when they saw you wear a mask. Also interesting that all the white frontline staff wear this contraption while the black kitchen staff wore regular face masks (more consistently than the frontline/serving staff). Not sure what this all means, but just an observation. The food however was delicious except that our waiter struggled to explain some of the more unique South African dishes.

I'd herewith like to briefly respond. We do follow Covid protocol, require guests to wear masks, sanitize, take temperatures and sign in if they did not have a reservation on arrival, and assure you we are concerned, we use medical grade products to clean an sanitize and have regular building sanitation cycles and so forth.
Unfortunately in some instances some guests quickly go to the restrooms past reception and forget their masks, they do apologize and we ask please do wear your mask but this may cause the impression that they enter without masks etc.
Local law require your nose and mouth be covered as our shields do, also considering you’re addressed facing one another and while you will typically be sitting down, and as we are in hospitality we try and serve you with a visible smile, we have been using these shields for quite some time now and have had clients even purchase these and must mention that you are the first client to be concerned / complain.
Staff, on the occasion when not close to any one, briefly remove the masks as guests also do when seated at tables to in turn for a short while breath with more ease.
I’m quite ambivalent myself to respond to your opinion on front and back line staff and do not appreciate the racial referencing or distinction, yet to explain, shields for service with a smile and shield not in kitchen as they steam up not allowing staff to prepare your meal.
Thank you for complementing our food, our apologies that the dishes could not be explained with enough detail, we have recently hired a few new waiters and also have some who may not necessary be able to explain everything as good in English as good as they may have in their first language, Afrikaans, yet we take note and will be sure to do more staff training.

Chance visit! A group of volunteers staying in J’Bay. We were originally going to go to 60s dinner however by the time we got organised it was closed so I quickly googled restaurants nearby and discovered this one. Seeing the outside we were a bit apprehensive as it looked quite swish and we were really dressed for the occasion however we were greeted warmly and a table for 7 was set up. The lights were low and the music was popular songs but kinda jazz/piano renditions. I absolutely loved it. I had a very blue cocktail which was nice and sweet. For food I had the line of the day which I think was cobe. Beautifully presented and tasted delicious. I then had malva pudding which was okay but I do love my sticky toffee pudding from Britain! Would highly recommend this place for dinner. Hope to be back one day

Two of my pensioner friends and I had a super meal at your restaurant on Sunday.
Unfortunately the attitude of our waiter left us with a bad taste in our mouths.
Our meal came to R570 total. For convenience sake we added a R30 tip to make it easier to divide the bill and we each contributed R200.
His attitude was to walk away shaking his head and disppearing into the kitchen. As per normal, one's waiter normally sees you out (if possible) with a smile and a thank you. This gentleman needs some lessons in courtesy.
Other than that, it was a thoroughly pleasant experience.

We admit that we got to the restuarant a bit later . We booked the place for 13:30 but we got there later. The manager told us that they would need the table later. We asked the waiter if we could then move to another table. She said she would ask the manager they did not get back to us. One of us ordered grilled calamari they accidently mixed the order and served fried calamari. We did not mind they came and take the plate away while she said its okay she does not mind. While we were eating the waiting came to ask us how many take boxes we need. Not once did they came to ask us if we are okay.

Again as per email we would like to appologise that this was your experience.
This review subsequent to an email to us however seems deliberate with the intent to damage our reputation, possibly because you did not agree with our response per email.
A bit late is not an hour and a half later than what the reservation was made for, with no correspondence from you, yet you still had a table and as with all our guests we gave you the same and a fair experience.
On your late arrival it was explained that the table was booked for a later time and you were asked to please keep the timeline in mind, and as per email if we moved you to another table you may not have been happy with where it was, and as per this review you do not seem easily pleased if things are not what you expect them to be.
Strange that not all your other comments are mentioned here as in your mail, possibly because it would not have been accepted on this platform.
The take away containers was only politely offered to everyone after one person requested a container, with no intent to rush anyone as you were made aware of the timeline of the table.
Thank you for allowing us another opportunity to apologise, we will however be sure to report this review irrespective of it being removed or not.

Very nicely furnished restaurant with a beautiful view of the sea from a wonderful terrace. The fish soup is a thick creamy soup, slightly spicy. Liver delicious, but also slightly spicy. Children's portion of prawns with chips was incredibly tasty. Shrimp salad was super set up, salad fresh and crispy, shrimp right on point. Absolut delicious ice cream and very good espresso

We'll relocate to J'bay just to eat here again, my wife's words. The food, service, staff,ambiance, menu, reception and owners makes this place a Gem! What a pleasant experience for out of towners, from Cape Town. My wife and I had a seafood platter that will put most restaurants in CPT to shame, on variety, presentation 'a Surfboard', taste and price. My son 'burger expert' says this was one for the record books and rates it up there with the best. This was an experience to remember and we'll be back! Thanks to the owner, host and Worsie for looking after us.

Great restaurant and good food with attentive service from a well informed waitress. Unfortunately I gave a 3 star rating due the management attitude when we complained about a sensitive issue. We specifically requested grilled hake with no bones, but the result on the plate was hake found full of bones and scales. The chef is to blame here, but it turned out the waiter was made the scapegoat. It seems the waiter was told to deal with the situation which in my opinion is very poor from the management which was present in the restaurant.
We were not expecting any freebies or discounts, but because of a sensitive diner to bones a good evening was spoiled. It would have been a good gesture to get the chef and manager over to the table to explain and apologise.
I have eaten hake all over Spain, Portugal, Europe and even filleted hake myself, but never found bones nor scales on a plate to this extend.
Poor leadership and don’t care attitude will unfortunately not see me dining here again.

Where on earth have this restaurant been all my life :O What an amazing experience me and my wife had. Being greeted by friendly staff, great atmosphere and absolutely amazing food. Our waiter "Worsie" as he calls himself was a michelin star graded waiter in our eyes with the biggest smile and only excellent service and knowledge of the food. So after working abroad for the last 3 years, we were blessed to be able to come home to our lovely town of Jeffreysbay for a short little holiday trip. With Jbay having everything anyone can think of when it comes to Food Options, De Viswijf has always been the standout one for us. From the smiles when you walkt through the door, the waves from the kitchen staff hard at work and the friendly waiter, to the most spectacular owners with a passion for food, wine and the ultimate experience.
This is dining at its best.
A must visit when in Jbay. 10/10

My sister and I decided to stop here on the way from Port Elizabeth to St Francis, and it was an excellent decision. I have eaten an many restaurants during my six week trip in the area, and this is, without a doubt, the best meal I had. It was a Thursday evening, and we were fortunate to get a table even though we did not have a reservation. The staff were friendly, professional, and efficient, the menu had a wonderful selection of interesting dishes, the setting was perfect, and the wine selection very good. I settled on the paella, which, served in a giant clam shell, was excellent. Although we did not plan to stay long, we found ourselves lingering, enjoying the meal, wine and ambience. This visit has turned out be a highlight of my trip, and if I am ever back in the area, I will definitely return to try some of the other dishes on the menu.
