Had lunch and must admit the portions are hugh and we had to take half the food home. They serve real chips which makes me so happy! Hubby loved the ribs! Will definately go back!

Marietjie’s serves the best fish and chips in the Cape! Super fresh (fetched by Marietjie on Friday mornings), the batter is light and crispy and the fillets are juicy and tender. Be sure to book your portion as it’s extremely popular among us locals. Available...most Friday evenings.More

I had never been to this area of the Cape and was spending one night at a friend in town. They recommended that we go to Marietjies for breakfast. It was really enjoyable, large portions, tasty bacon and sausage, eggs, tomato, cheese, chips, toast. Oh...how I miss the thick juicy bacon served in South Africa, so tasty compared to the thin crispy bacon normally served in the US. An unexpected pleasure was the shop attached to the bar/restaurant. I was able to buy lovely locally made jams and bottled fruit. There were so many choices I would have bought at least 10 if I wasn't going to be in trouble with weight on the plane. Overall a lovely experience, it was everything I had been led to believe it would be.More

Terrible!? Nope the service here was horrific. I will never EVER go to this bar again. We were there for my friends birthday in Gansbaai. The locals kept on bashing about the 'legendary' breakfast so on Saturday they booked a table for the Sunday at...10am for 12 people. While being on time is always preferred.... being 5-10 mins late as a group of people is highly impressive I would think. Plans change in a big group and we ended up being 15 people instead of 12. On arrival 5mins late the group of 5 people who arrived there first got seated but were confused when the waiter asked us if we were the table of 12 or 27... We gave them the time the reservation was made and the name it was made under and the number of people joining and told them we would be a bit more. We were shocked to see that there was no effort putten into our reservation. The reason why you book a time is so that they can be prepared for your arrival... Meaning hey!! You know its a birthday party breakfast.... Move the tables together!! Nope. No hope there. We ended up moving 2 tables together ourselves because we desided not to be bothered by their lack of hospitality. Thereafter we were asked to separate the tables again because the order would be to big!!!! What?? You mean to tell me you can't serve 15 people at the same time but you accept a reservation for 27? We told the waiter she could just split the order and bring half the tables food before the other half. I think it was the owner who came to check up on us and she made some stupid comments about us being late and how we have to hurry up and finish because the next group is coming at 11am. Basically what she expected us to do was order, munch down our food and get the hell out of there before the next groups arrival only an hour upon our reservation time. The coffee is supposed to be bottomless but everyone only had one cup. Their food was amazing and our food did arrive on time and we'll prepared. But the bitter taste of being treated so badly was still not enough to make the food stand out. When 10:47 rolled along we heard yet again another comment about the time and that we should hurry up. The waiter even checked her watch and made a comment about it being our fault for being 10mins late. Terrible service from the owner/managers side. Felt extremely sorry for some of the waiters because you could see their nervous faces because who is going to tip in this situation? Good luck to them. They just lost 15 clients who will most likely never return. I doubt that anyone of us would give them a good review to our friends travelling in this area. So there goes another big amount of potential clients. Not a big loss since we were just a group of mainly students?! Students are your future high tipping clients and future source of their income. Good luck to future clients being 5-10mims late.More

The name of the village intrigued me... then the large number of vehicles outside this establishment meant that we had to stop and investigate and after all, it was mid- morning Saturday and the nation was getting ready for the game! Well, what an experience!...The place was buzzing - we got one of the last tables and wow, were the patrons fortifying themselves - huge platters of food were being carried out from the kitchen - some locals already knocking back a few pre-game beverages ... made our ginger beer look tame by comparison! Our plate of slap tjips could have fed a family of 4, easily, but they were absolutely delicious.... never thought we could polish it off, but we did!! What an amazing vibe - I popped out to chat to the owner of Marietjies and got a bit of background on her 104 year old house, which is now a thriving pub and eatery. I'm trusting that its popularity will grow and that these small rural communities will continue to exist. Do yourself a favour and when you are passing Baardskeerdersbos, stop at Marietjies!More

We were heading to Baardskeerderbos for a drive and heard Marietjie's was a great option for breakfast. With your breakfast you get all your standard options like bacon, eggs, etc, but it is presented in a very interesting way. Your eggs are made to taste...and served on a plate and the rest of the items are all served on a large steel tray which is placed in the middle of the table. Everyone then dishes for themselves. We arrived without a booking, but I highly recommend you make one especially on Saturdays and Sundays, and would recommend you make your booking early enough as they get very busy. It's a very simple and rustic restaurant, with a very relaxed and laid-back atmosphere perfect for a weekend breakfast.More

We were five family members who visited. The service is friendly and homely. We opted for two platters to share. The huge servings were more than sufficient. The presentation lacked colour. The crumbed mushrooms, calamari and chips were served with racks of ribs. Calamari and...mushrooms could have been more tender. The ice cream with chocolate sauce, the malva pudding and chocolate brownie were quite tasty. Deserts to be recommended. Lots of caps displayedMore

Once again treated to a breakfast that can only be described as exceptional, wholesome and well worth the trip from Gansbaai. This time convinced Marietjie of the little extra loving touch of condensed milk with the fresh brewed coffee, would deserve the fifth star rating.
