Beautiful and delicious drug store-turned- restaurant w/ authentic soda fountain & vintage pharmacy decor. Recommend getting there early on a Sunday as it fills up quick! Had a brunch feature- chicken and waffles- as recommended by waitress: the best fried chicken I've had in years!...Juicy, well seasoned and good portion, highly recommend! Of course, excellent chocolate malt for dessert. Prices a little pricier but excellent food and service- would definitely recommend stopping there if you are passing through Jackson!More

We came to this restaurant because my husband lived here and recommended this place for brunch. We were passing through. When we arrived, it was not busy which was perfect because we needed to hit the road. Well we waited for 20 minutes before we...had to flag someone down to take our drink order. A few people came in after us and had the same situation, however, they left. The wait staff knew we were all waiting, but no one came to check what was going on. When the other people left, the waiters were saying it’s because no one waited on them. Everyone was aware so why wasn’t anyone helped? I’m not sure who was supposed to be our waiter, but I am grateful that the one we flagged down ended up being ours because we wouldn’t have been served anyway. There was plenty of wait staff and as I mentioned it was not busy. So I’m not sure what the problem was. Will not come back. The food was ok but not worth the wait. Don’t waste your time.More

We both had omelettes on a busy Sunday brunch, and it was great! Thanks! Coffee hot and good. Clean bathrooms. Nice staff. Reasonable prices. Sat at the old fashioned soda fountain bar. 😊

We loved our omelets made just for us! Eggs were perfectly cooked. Kyle gave us great service. Old day decor was fantastic. Biscuit was fluffy and tasty.

You know, when one goes to a bar one would (and should) expect great service and great (or at least good) conversation. Having owned and operated a bar, I know this is a key principle to good business. Well, the service was decent, but the...conversation last night from the bar manager...the only thing I could relate it to would be like a winter in Antarctica. We had the WORST experience last night thanks to the bar manager at The Apothecary. Recommend human relations training for this individual. Literally ZERO social skills were demonstrated by her last night. Zero response from her when asked for service or just a general question. To note an incident specifically, when approached (without a single word spoken) by an individual in our party, who wanted to ask her a simple question, her initial response was "I'm uncomfortable". Really? Realize that no question had even been asked at that moment in time. Unacceptable! After an apology by this individual from our party, the question was asked, and he got a minor (almost a "go away you are bothering me") response followed by another "I'm uncomfortable". My friend apologized yet again and once more before concluding this "conversation". The Apothecary was a rather enjoyable place on a previous visit thanks to Julian and it makes me very sad that it took this single individual to ruin what was (prior to visiting The Apothecary) a very enjoyable night out with a friend and family. FYI, Bird was a good bartender last night, but her manager...I have no decent words to describe. I truly hope this type of situation can be rectified before a loss of another single patron of The Apothecary. I truly am sorry that The Apothecary will not be seeing my patronage in the foreseeable future. TRULY SORRY!More

We were anxious to visit this place but were wary after other reviewers said that did not honor their hours. To be on the safe side, I called them and the recording gave us their hours. Based on those hours, we visited, but guess what!!...Closed!! DisappointingMore

We had a Sunday morning brunch here and really loved this place! The decor and atmosphere were great, the server was friendly and efficient and the food was delicious. I love that they’ve kept the authentic decor, including some very old signs above the counter....(Cheeseburger for 85 cents, anyone?!) I look forward to returning the next time we are in Jackson.More

Originally a soda fountain in the Pharmacy, this place was updated recently without erasing the turquoise booths and original soda fountain. Total small town vibes. My breakfast was delicious. I didn’t have a milkshake but they looked amazing.

Brent's Drugs is an important part of the culinary history of Jackson, Mississippi. Located at 655 Duling Avenue, in the Woodland Hills Shopping Center, it is a classic drug store and soda fountain dating to 1946 that serves ice cream favorites and diner comfort food....It was founded by pharmacist Alvin Brent, who left Patterson's Drugs in downtown Jackson to open his own pharmacy and soda fountain in the Fondren neighborhood. Brent sold his business in 1977. After some renovations and a few owners, today the soda fountain and classic bar stools remain in the original 1946 site. Open from 7 to 7:30 Tuesday through Friday, 8 to 7:30 on Saturday and 10 to 2 on Sunday, Brent's reminds of the old-time drug store that was a popular gathering place for kids and neighbors. After reading about Brent's in a travel magazine, my wife and I made a point of stopping en route from Memphis to St. Francisville, Louisiana. For lunch, we had a Brent's Burger with Angus beef, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickles and a Patty Melt with Angus beef, grilled onions and cheddar cheese on Texas toast. With house fries, a bowl of chili and glasses of Barqs root beer and fresh squeezed lemonade. For dessert, how can you pass up a Banana Split with vanilla and chocolate ice cream, fresh bananas, hot fudge, strawberry syrup, caramel, pecans, whipped cream and a cherry? To reach Brent's, exit I-55 at Lakeland Drive, drive west to Old Canton Road, then north to Duling Avenue. lt's worth the trip.More

Great experience and food. Our service was excellent. Price was $18.00 for a float, apple pie ala mode, cookie monster sundae, and a milkshake. Pie was delicious (dutch apple). The diner itself was like walking back in time with a 50’s-60’s vibe. Would highly recommend.

We were looking for a diner to have some breakfast at before continuing our journey to New Orleans, and this place did not disappoint! A true old school diner completely restored to it’s original glory. Excellent service and the food was delicious. If you’re ever...passing through Jackson, MS, it is a must stop. PS— the apothecary part of the building in the back where the pharmacist actually used to workhas been converted into a craft cocktail bar! 🍸More

The Apothecary is a speakeasy in the back room of Brent's drugs. There is no sign. We walked past what appeared to be a closed drug store soda fountain (lights dim, chairs up on tables) and we decided that we must have been misinformed -...here is no bar at Brent's. Then we saw a small group of people walk in the unlocked door, through the dining area to a black curtain at the back wall of the shop. They went through the curtain. We followed. What we found was the coziest snug this side of Pelahatchie. The Apothecary is staffed by one alchemist who makes cocktail magic with potions, tinctures and decoctions. It is an inviting space with small tables and just enough lighting to ensure a proper speakeasy atmosphere. No table service. Just go to the bar and patiently wait your turn while you watch the cocktail magic happen. But Shhhhhhh.... don't tell everyone.More

I decided to visit Brent’s Drugs for lunch during my visit to Jackson this weekend. I believe I was intrigued by this place because it was featured in the film "The Help" and because of its past history as a pharmacy. My server was polite,...kind, and fast and that was greatly appreciated. I decided to try the salad sampler which included: Chicken, Pimento & Cheese, and Egg & Olive salads. I found the salads to be ok but surely not anything that I would have to try again. I should have tried a burger and a shake instead. Maybe I would have been happier with that selection. Brent’s Drugs rates high in my book regarding history, price, and decor. However, I would give it a mix bag regarding food.More

Loved the 50s booths and bar/stools! We enjoyed a delicious root beer float before ordering. I had the chicken salad on Texas Toast with Lay's chips. I'd give it a 3 for the reasonably priced good food, but the setting bumps it to 4.
