So lovely to see the Lamb open again, even if it just for Sunday lunch. Oh my what a lovely roast it is too.
We were greeted by a very friendly and welcoming Charlie who quickly served us with our drinks....they serve a lovely pint of Harvey's and the Chein Blanc wasn't to bad either. We sat by a lovely open fire, very cosy. The menu is up on the board, very easy to read. Charlie came and took our order; I had the mackerel pate with beetroot and homemade crackers, followed by the roast beef and my partner had the game terrine with toasted bread and also had the roast beef. We were given homemade sour dough bread with marmite butter while waited for our food. We both enjoyed our food, it was tasty and well presented, with local produce. The roast beef was excellent. We were full, Charlie gave some time to decide on dessert but despite their being a lovely looking sticky toffee pudding, we went for the spiced bay & pear ripple ice cream which was so tasty.
Highly recommend the lamb

As a resident of Wartling. I was very pleased to see the pub open for Sunday Lunch. We had delicious homemade soda bread with a whipped marmite butter, I had a mackerel pate with beetroot to start and a really good classic roast beef and Yorkshire pud with classic veg. I shared a sticky toffee pudding with my husband to finish.
The pub was cozy and welcoming all the fires were lit and service was good.
Roll on the pub opening more regularly! Don’t forget to book.

We recently held my mothers wake at the Lamb Inn and I’m so glad we did, being right next to the church it was super convenient, and our hosts Matt and Rosie were so helpful and accommodating, very easy to deal with, nothing was too much trouble, just a truly delightful couple. The pub was immaculately clean, the fires were lit and the whole place felt cosy and homely. The food they provided was delicious and plentiful and if that is anything to go by, we will definitely be back for Sunday lunch. Thank you Matt and Rosie, my family and I wish you every success for the future.

We had an excellent lunch in a very warm and inviting picturesque English country pub. The lovely James and Ned at the bar looked after our large table of friends and children very well. Food delicious, homemade mackerel pates, sausage and mash and the best Tart tartins we have ever had. I look forward to booking again soon.

Hugely disappointed with our evening in terms of the lack of organisation and service. This was a special occasion for my wife's Birthday and we we were grossly let down by a woeful lack of people to serve what was a completely full restaurant. The barmaid was in tears and kept apologising but credit to her and the two others who tried their best to look after everyone.
There was no ice in the place so white wine was served in a cooler with just tap water and we were given no wine glasses as they had run out. We were eventually given three glasses (for 10) which were hot just out of the dishwasher and the rest of us used gin glasses and water tumblers. Two of the red wines on the list that we requested were not available. We experienced long delays in being served with drinks as the poor staff were just completely overwhelmed.
On the positive side, the food itself was very nice and no complaints there. We were also grateful to Krystle and the other two staff for trying their best to look after us.
What is most disappointing, is the lack of response from the owner James to my expression of concerns in emails. Whilst initially responding and saying he would come back to me after seeing the staff, there has been a resounding silence, despite my further requests for contact. I see this lack of respect is also shown to another recent reviewer.
We spent a lot of money on this meal and have had good meals there in the past but sadly we could not recommend anyone to go there after this experience.

I deeply regret not being here on your night, as these simple errors of no ice & no wine glasses would have been easily solved, plus better wine could have been given at matched prices to Malbec etc. I have offered my sincere apologies to the host. James Braxton

Lovely main meal of fish & chips and sausages, mash & veg, just let down by the starter of Sussex Smokey. We’ve had it before in other local pubs and we’ve obviously been spoilt by it having a lot of fish, but there just seemed so little in this fish, also it was served with a very undercooked doughy bread which wasn’t nice. However the main dishes were very good ( albeit it there’s ironically no Lamb on the menu at the Lamb Inn! ) the menu is small and could benefit from perhaps a pie on it? That aside the pub itself is a lovely pub, great atmosphere with record player which you can chose your own records ( love it!) and open fires and the barman was very friendly and personable and couldn’t do enough for you. Well definitely return here but just won’t have the Sussex Smokey!

Thank you for taking the trouble to write a review. Smoked Haddock is just one part of a Sussex smokey, along with leaks, spring onions, Godminster cheddar cheese, béchamel sauce, bread crumbs and parmesan cheese. The bread has been changed, a lack of salt in the mix lead to it's mediocrity. Come back on a Friday, when we have our fish pie, otherwise its venison & red current pie in shortcrust pastry this week. Braxton family & team

We planned lunch at The Lamb on a walk in the area on Friday 8 October. We found the out closed and looked like it wasn't trading any more. Massive disappointment as we had checked Internet and found no evidence it was shut. AVOID!

Visited here for a drink as a couple, after the welcoming ambience and array of eclectic decor giving you the warmth feeling of appreciating a proper country pub with open lit fires & a retro record player for a choice of vinyls,we decided to book a stay for Valentine’s evening. Fantastic stay! Fabulous food! Opting for a sharing starter of baked garlic & rosemary camembert with venison carpaccio, olives & homemade focaccia, followed by a sharing board of whole lobster in thermidor sauce, fillet steak, homemade chips & salad, with homemade sticky toffee pudding, toffee sauce & madagascan vanilla seeded ice cream. In the morning we had a choice of a good muesli with a fruit compote & yoghurt followed by salmon & eggs or a good full english with orange juice, tea or coffee. Quality is clearly a pride for the proprietor James using local produce. Our room was quaint, very clean with the most comfortable bed , great shower & again quality soft furnishings, towels. Staff in all aspects were great, especially a young lady by the name of Crystal who was non stop at pleasing the customers. Thank you to James & his staff for a most pleasant stay! You must be proud for the achievement of a fantastic inn!

We stayed overnight in a beautifully made Emperor bed, had the most delicious fish pie listening to changing vinyls on the turnstile. Timeless atmosphere and marvellous scrambled eggs in the morning. We were attending a preview at the Towner gallery in Eastbourne early evening so what a great way to conclude our trip. Thank you to all.

We arrived at half past twelve on a week day. It seemed distinctly peculiar that, at that hour, the inn had run out of bread and could not offer any of its range of sandwiches.
R had the butternut soup - with an end of bread, instead of the focaccia on the menu - and said it was good. The portion was not generous. A had the mac and cheese (again, no focaccia and no apology/price adjustment), which looked nice, but she didn't wolf it down. T had the sea bass, which he enjoyed. O and I shared the fish and chips, which was disappointing: the fish was pretty tasteless and still we had no problem persuading him to eat the fish before the chips, almost all of which he left uneaten.
Service was slow, which I'd have forgiven had the meal been better. We had to repeat our dessert order twice; and a dog kept crawling around our feet and under the table.
On the other hand, we had a really delicious cider on the recommendation of the inn.

Booked for lunch and had a wonderful meal. Started with venison carpaccio which was superb, full of flavour with a bit of heat from the crust it had been rolled in. Followed that with the shepherd's pie which was as good as it gets - really flavoursome with good seasonal vegetables.
We also had a couple of pints of Harveys best which was excellent - clearly a well kept cellar.
Service is extremely friendly and it was nice to spent some time talking to James Braxton who owns this wonderful place...
Definitely recommended and one to return to...
Thanks!

Overall the stay here was just OK. On the positive side, the owner and staff were all truly lovely, friendly and helpful. However, we encountered a few issues. Firstly, our room was tiny, which you would expect in an old coaching inn... but there was no room to swing a cat (or weekend bag)! It also looked like our room was cleaned a few weeks ago and left to gather dust. It felt quite unclean - there were lots of hairs behind the sink, dust everywhere and old sticky ring marks from glasses on the bedside tables. Then, we had an early sitting for dinner and they had already run out of several dishes - on New Year’s Eve!!! It wasn’t that big a menu! So bizarre! We were only there for a night but even the next morning, wish that there had been more made of a communal area for staying guests. We also didn’t feel like it was a locals’ pub - there were very few people gathered at the bar and the atmosphere wasn’t hugely inviting either (in a decorative sense). Don’t really feel that the website/reviews were representative of the reality. Needs a bit of an update to compete with the kind of quality gastropubs in Kent/East Sussex. Quite disappointed. Shame, as the team were genuinely very good.

Visited with friends and found the place to be really beautiful, so much character with all the nooks, cranes, and decor. I could have just sat there and enjoyed the inside. Food was well prepared and tasted good. Would go back again.

We’re just back from a fantastic weekend at the beautiful bohemian Lamb Inn, Wartling. We stayed in one of their rooms, which was clean and comfy. The food was fantastic and the whole team looked after us brilliantly throughout our visit. Plenty in the local area to do; we tramped about the countryside a bit and had a day being blown along the promenade at Bexhill-On-Sea. Great to come back to a hot shower and have a cosy fireside drink. To top it all off, the vinyl collection is amazingly eclectic and they’re pretty relaxed about you rummaging through! Just a lovely place to stay, with bags of character and warmth.

Food good, service slightly slow. Took over 2.5 hours for 2 courses. What it would be like if full. Had to remind 3 times to get final drink. Did know how to read presentation gift voucher.
