After years of speeding past, I decided to turn in and what a great surprise. Hidden away from the road (not directly next to the road) I found the best view for having a nice good meal while relaxing on my way between Ashton and Swellendam. La Mont is closer to Ashton so you don't really think of stopping after you basically just started to speed up after your out of the towns boundaries on your way to Swellendam. Also, the board announcing La Mont isn't the biggest so you can easily miss it. It also focus more on inviting people to buy the pork and cheese, than to visit the deli itself...so if your not really after pork or cheese you'll probably drive past (like I did for years). Don't!!! Stop and take some time out to enjoy from pizza to toasties with chips and don't forget the hot chocolate. The view from the really big deck (enough space for all the tourists on a bus or more than one school group passing by or quite a few families on holiday) is one of the best I've seen in ages. Lush green pastures with cows on and the biggest and most beautiful mountains in the background. Stop and come visit! Oh, you can choose from quite a few different cheeses and pork meat to take home or for the first braai at your holiday destination. La Mont Deli is hiding behind trees about a 100 metres (or more) on your left from the road when traveling from Ashton.

We've been stopping here for the past century and just love their cheese. We've had good lunches and not so good lunches. Will still stop when passing but it's maybe time to look at other options for lunch. One tends to get a favourite and then maybe missing out on a new spot.

Their pizza's are really disgusting and the price is day light robbery for what i got. I had a BBC pulled work. There was hardly any meat on it or cheese and it was paper thin and soft. Its the worst i have ever had and they charged R90 Unless they improve and brush up on service and a proper menu i would not stop there. I will never return. When i complained it was so expensive for what I got my complaint was met with silence and we waited nearly 50 mins for one pizza. Really bad.

Stopped here with the family on the way to George. Regretted it. Everything was store bought, nothing was fresh. Bread was stale and still frozen in places, muffin came from a packet, sausages were cooked the previous day (at least) and just heated up. Terrible. Rather travel just a few more kilometers to try out the other farm stalls.

A great place to stop for a break and a bite to eat. If you love cheese, try their very generous cheese board and awesome ice coffee! Cheese very reasonable!♡

Al fresco dining. Friendly staff (family business) and the food good. They serve Pizza and cheese platters. We were served quickly and the kids loved the freedom of the open grass and play area. They also have a selection of cheeses and wine on sale in the deli.

We love cheese. We had to visit La Mont before leaving Ashton. It was worth it. After a free cheese tasting platter we opted for wood fired pizza prepared with their own cheese. Beautiful view as well.

We took friends to La Mont on Easter Saturday. We wanted to have a late breakfast/brunch but settled for a cheese platter between the four of us when informed that breakfast is no longer served. There was an unpleasant smell which pervaded the whole deck area but seemed to be stronger toward the front. This was not a farmyard or stable smell. Some machinery close to the deck was noisy and made conversation difficult. The cheese and other components of the platter were good albeit in short supply. Some crackers other than water biscuits would improve the platter. One of our guests went down the stair from the deck to the lawn and the bottom step gave way. Should it have been a higher step that collapsed this incident might have resulted in serious injury to our friend.

Great stop if you are travelling on the R60 - excellent place to buy cheese or to enjoy a great pizza whilst travelling. Can get very hot under the sink roof if they do not switch on the water and fans. The water and fans also help o curb the flies... It is afterall a cheese producing farm with cows so expect a fly or 2...

We visit La Mont regularly and especially during the winter, the pleasant atmosphere, the excellent food and the wide variety of top-class local wines, is simply something not to be missed by tourists, locals and even the occasional visitor to the region (Cape Winelands)!

On our way back to the Eastern Cape we stop here to stock up on cheese. Not lunch time yet, but we just couldn't resist the beautiful setting at the foot of this mountain and had to have lunch here. We enjoyed a pizza. I live a lowcarb lifestyle but decided to share the pizza with my wife. This was a great choice. Super thin base and never ad any dough taste. Enjoyed the pizza with a good wine before heading further East. Pithy I never took a photo of our pizza.

Visited for wine tasting and cheese pairing ....it was more of a "wine pouring and cheese try out" session with one cheese expired....The cheese was great though, not sure if I'd visit again.

My wife and I stopped for a light lunch and were pleasant surprised by the quality of the service and the menu. We each had a pizza which was easily big enough to satisfy our appetite. We enjoyed our lunch sitting in the shade of the veranda with the beautiful scenery. We paid just over R300 for two including a bottle of CVL Sauvignon Blanc by Van Loveren and coffee which we felt was very reasonable.
