About
Established in 1999. With three locations in Boise, Eagle and Coeur d'Alene that capture the spirit of Idaho and the Northwest, Bardenay Restaurant and Distillery is a cornerstone of Idaho's restaurant and bar industry. The original establishment is located in a once empty warehouse on the Historic Basque Block in downtown Boise, Idaho. On April 25th, 2000, history was made when we served the first cocktail to included spirits distilled in a restaurant in the US. As the nation's first restaurant distillery, Bardenay has set an industry precedent as the first full service restaurant and bar with the ability to create handcrafted liquor on-site. Our distillers are happy to give tours as time allows. Please ask your server if you are interested in a closer look at our operations. p.s. We are only allowed to sell our fine spirits by the drink. If you would like to purchase a bottle, you may do so at many of our state liquor stores.

We were "walk in's" with no reservations on a Friday night so we were worried that we might not get in but all the employees were extremely accomodating. They took our phone number and we were in and seated in about 30 minutes. If it's nice outside be sure to sit on the patio. The view is wonderful! If you go be sure to get the Huckleberry Martini... it was over the top good. The Caesar salad had homemade dressing that was very tasty and the grilled shrimp I added were really flavorful!

I had a nice cocktail and satays the first night. The salmon was very nice. The bartender was kind to serve a single person like I and paid attention to my need to have a nice small plate and drink after a long day of motorcycling through ID. Came back later. Vey busy. Did not find a place to sit. Came back the next night (sorry I forget the bartender) and was given good service and again I had the salmon satay and then the hummus. This was more than enough for a meal. I would come here a third time (in the future).

Want to love Bardenay, we live here, it's a fun place to take our family when they visit. The service is fantastic, but EVERY TIME we eat here, one or more of us gets cold food. Th hamburgers are stone cold in the center,, once we had a lasagne special that wasn't even warm, let alone hot. The french fries are always plated too early and end up being cold. Even the pho comes ourtbarely warm, cold soup?? The food would be good if it was served hot, but even fish and chips doesn't come out hot. Deep fried food ought to be HOT.

This is really disappointing to see and not a standard for us. We work very hard to make sure our food gets out fast and hot. Have you talked to your server or a manager about this? Please email me at ebetts@bardenay.com we’d love to make it up to you. Erin Betts-GM

I selected this restaurant because it was close to our SpringHill hotel. Bardenay was disappointing with both service and food. Our server was not attentive or welcoming. We ordered several appetizers to try a little bit of everything. The satays were fine- nothing out of the ordinary. The trout dip tasted simply like cream cheese. The artisanal cheese platter was nothing of the sort. It consisted of three hunks of cheese- and I mean hunks- which also had strips of cheese on top that looked like it was just pulled from a stack of cheeses. Our server did not even explain what the three cheeses were. We had to wait some time for our first round of drinks, then our second round of drinks sat at the bar as our server walked by them at least three times. When a manager came to our table to ask if we needed anything, my husband asked her to please get our drinks that we could clearly see sitting there. The manager did so, then we saw her address our server thereafter. Our server then decided to turn on the charm. At no point during our meal did the server come to see if everything came out fine or whether we were enjoying the food. I would not return to this restaurant. If you walk down the street, there is a waterfront bar that is far superior.

I guess I'm fussy about the chicken wings that I like but for what they charge I think that's my right. So here's my read on the best wings. First of all I prefer the flats that are baked and fried with the sauce served on the side. Unless you ask the server about the winds before ordering it's kind of a crap shoot. Magen was our waitress and we absolutely adored her service and beautiful smile.

Fun cocktail menu (it’s literally a little book) and great, varied food menu. I especially enjoyed the Basil Instinct cocktail and the ginger-lime chicken satay with side salad, and hubby devoured his Buddha bowl. Dessert was good, too; we got the scotch ice cream and vanilla custard. But what’s more is how spectacular our server was! She was personable and respectful of social distancing, even asking if we preferred she mask up, since we both wore them. How considerate and unexpected! When in town, I don’t often remember this place’s name, but I will need to do better and remember how much I enjoy it.

Five of us gathered for a business dinner and everyone finished with "that was good". Not great, just good. I had their Rib Eye steak with did have good flavor and was extremely tender, but about 1/2 was fat or gristle and I do like al dente vegetables, however the green beans seemed like they came straight from the garden. Wife felt the same way. The Madeira demi-glace was excellent. I would certainly give them another try.

Had dinner tonight with my family and I have to say I am thoroughly unimpressed. The food was not seasoned in any way. Stale bread, no seasoning on pasta which was also overcooked, dinner salad was forgotten. Our server was fabulous as was the bartender.

Excellent food. I had the salmon and it was perfectly cooked and not over seasoned. The option to sit on the patio is nice and environment is cool. Staff was very friendly. They won’t accept reservations so in peak tourist months you are looking at an hour wait time but a great place to visit off peak season.

Very good meal and service. We made reservations for 7 pm and they seated us upon arrival. Our servers were Mike and Laura. I was very impressed with the meal and service. Appetizer arrived before Mike finished taking our order. Beer selection was good. We had the meatloaf sandwich, made of ground lamb and beef, which was some of the best if not the best I have ever experienced; the hamburger, seared ahi tuna salad; and grilled chicken sandwich. We had regular and sweet potato fries. All were very good.

The reviews for this place were all over the place but the menu looked interesting, so we gave it a try. The menu had cocktails that sounded great, like this was a place that knew how to make a great craft cocktail. We had a reservation and were promptly seated upon arrival. Then we sat so long without being acknowledged at all that we discussed leaving. Afraid we would not get a table at another good restaurant, and still holding out hope for a great bourbon cocktail, we waited a bit longer. In fairness to our server, the servers were being run ragged. We ordered the Idaho Golden Greek Grilling Cheese as an appetizer. Unfortunately for me I was picturing some ooey, gooey saganaki type cheese dish. It was odd. Covered in bread, almost tasted like french toast, had nothing to do with cheese, no ooey and no gooey, kind of hard and tasteless. I want to be clear that we don't need fancy, just yummy. This place is neither. The cocktail did not come until the main dishes did and what a disappointment! I hoped for a proper bourbon sour. It was Jim Beam with that god awful yellow sour mix you buy at the grocery store. When our mains came, my caesar salad was all brown lettuce and the croutons were not even tasty. My husband ordered the Bardenay Dip (like a beef dip with roast beef). We ended up leaving all of our food and paying the bill and leaving. I wish I had listened to the reviews that told me this place was far from quality. That is why I am here- to save you your time and about $20-25 per diner. This place smells like stale beer, the food is really bad, and the chance of a good cocktail are nil.

We were visiting the area and had dinner here three times. I have read many reviews here, our experience was a good one, we had wonderful food and drink here. Tayvin our bartender one night and waiter another was wonderful. The three nights we were here we had the steak tacos, fish tacos, salmon filet twice, meatloaf sandwich and cedar brined pork chop. All food was hot and very good. The Bardenay rum drinks are very good. I was watching a young 16 year old bus boy (Issac) just moving at a rapid pace to clean tables and just got things done. Good to see this from our young people. Enjoy the food and drink here.

We loved everything about our night out to the distillery! We sat on the patio facing the fountain and there was a band playing down the road outside, just fun happy music. Our waitress, I believe Kitt, was awesome. It was busy! But she was not stressed. Gave great recommendations when I couldn't decide on drinks. Prices are very reasonable. We had fish and chips for main entree, bruschetta and a chicken cilantro lime satay for starters. So much food. Then carrot cake and scotch ice cream for dessert to split, both so delicious. It was really fun and so tasty and not hard on the wallet! Hope we get to return some day as we're not from the area. But to say again, the drinks were so well crafted and delicious.

My wife set up my 40 birthday and reserved tables outside and 2 hr before the reservation she got a call from Erin and she was nothing but rude and told my wife that she was opening that outside to the public and the table we reserved were no longer available. I will never return to this restaurant. We instead went to Noli best service and help.

Their ginger rum raisin carrot cake is basically a cheesecake with a caramelized pecan crust. The part that I'm guessing they consider "cake" was a single layer (not the 2 layers in the description) of 1/4" thick, chewy, caramelized coconut and raisins. Not even a hint of carrot cake. This was sandwiched in between about an inch of something like cheesecake below and an inch of cream cheese frosting on top. Extremely disappointing! I won't be back.
