My wife and I stopped for lunch. She had read some good reviews. Thought we would give it a try. BBQ is very subjective and there are many styles. I prefer Memphis style, so this may be why I was not impressed with most of...the food. Atmosphere - definitely has personality outdoors. Bright yellow building. Two brightly painted junk cars out front. The hill behind the building has hundreds of pig shaped cutouts on stakes driven into the ground. If you want to spend 5 bucks you can write something on a cutout and have it put on the hill. Ok, cute. Inside the place is basically a monument to the founder, who was apparently a bit of a local celebrity. He had some involvement in politics, wrote a couple of books, made a CD. The table tops have two pages written by the founder about himself and another page with a list of radio and TV appearances he was featured in over the years. The walls are covered with pictures of him in a goofy yellow suite and Uncle Sam style hat that he apparently wore while attending campaign conventions and other events. If you are a local it may have some interest. As someone who is not from the area it was meaningless and pretty much made the place look tacky. Food. I have probably eaten in about 100 different BBQ joints. This one definitely comes close to the bottom of the list. I ordered a sliced brisket plate with potato salad and BBQ beans. The meat was neither tender nor flavorful. Not tough, but not tender. Barely any smoke flavor, just bland. The sauce was a heavy vinegar recipe. I had the original. My wife tried the sweet. The sweet was definitely not sweet and still was mostly vinegar. Now, I understand that regional traditions dictate various styles. As I said, I prefer Memphis style so I cannot say if their sauce would be considered good or not, but my wife and I did not care for them. My potato salad had an overwhelming flavor of dill and maybe another flavor I could not place. It was not just seasoned with it, it was saturated. It was the only thing I could taste. The positive part of the meal was the BBQ beans. I did enjoy those. Much sweeter sauce, very little vinegar flavor. Makes me wonder if the beans were made there or were a commercial brand as the sauce was completely different. The other positive was the owner. He came to our table twice checking on us. Very friendly and engaging to everyone in the place. He definitely values his customers and wants them.to have a Good time. Many restaurant owners could learn a lesson from him. Maybe the BBQ style reflected regional preference, that is why I did not give it a lower score. However, based on what I tasted today, my preference would be to not return. Sorry, it just did not do it for me. There are several other BBQ joints in the area, Ithink next time I would try one of those.More

Nothing fancy but BBQ was good and we enjoyed looking at all the crazy decor. Wooden pigs all over the hill and around the restaurant- each with someone’s name. Very cute. Also they had corn hole boards out that we played a few games on....Very nice staff and food arrived very quickly. Banana pudding was awesome!More

Rode over to Ellijay today in search of the South’s best BBQ and while I can’t authoritatively say this is it, it was certainly very good! I don’t understand some of the poor reviews but we had excellent service and a really good BBQ sandwich...and fries. I would definitely eat here again!More

The quirky hillside of pig graves with names was cute but I feel as if they died for nothing. Very generous sized portions of food . But the bbq was so bad only a few bites was enough . Sides are typical frozen food you...find at most bbq jointsMore

I ordered 2 BBQ chicken plates for me and my hubby and was just under $50!!! I am a local and can tell you that there is nothing good about this place. The BBQ is waaaayyyy to salty. Save your money and visit another local...establishment that will not charge you and arm and leg and get bad service.More

This place came highly recommended but was sadly disappointed. We had the ribs and they were horrible. Worst ribs we ever had.

Let me start by saying the people there are very friendly. Now for the problem we had. My wife and I stopped in for lunch and each got the pork plate. I had mine with potato salad and Brunswick stew. She had hers with mac...n cheese and Brunswick stew. I'll start with my plate. My potato salad was decent. The Brunswick stew was cold and tasted of vinegar. The pork was room temperature and had an off flavor to it. My wife's Brunswick stew was cold and tasted of vinegar also. Her Mac n cheese was cold and the cheese was hard. She said her pork also had an off taste. I did not try the Texas toast but my wife said it was very salty. We chose to leave and left our uneaten food on the table. I suppose we could have let the staff know about the food but it didn't seem like the thing to do since so much was wrong. The people were very friendly though.More

Delicious BBQ. Four different sauces. Friendly staff. They are limited people inside due to coronavirus. BBQ beans were great. Pork was the best. Beef also good.
