When last did you hear yourself breathing? Unwind while taking in natures true untouched beauty! Nestled within Bothas Hill, just 25 minutes from Durban, you will be mistaken to have travelled three hours to the summit of the Drakensberg mountains. With nothing short of breathtaking...views that spans as far as the eye can see, a nature lovers paradise. Nothing short of a sanctuary this gem sports its own cave via a short hike as well as viewing decks and a restaurant. Amazing photo opportunities and a place to relax with a wholistic touch. The owner was extremely welcoming and friendly who definitely made us feel at home! Try to visit on a clear day, although a bit of clouds shouldn’t deter you! The Shunyata Sanctuary is not to be missed!More

We've been going to Sacred Bean Cafe at Shunyata for a few months. I don't even know where to start with how disappointing it has become since new management /new kitchen owners /whatever. 1. It is touted as a vegan and vegetarian cafe. On arrival...our waitress informed us that hey now have chicken and fish on the menu as well as vegan and vegetarian. When I asked her if there was vegan on the menu (I couldn't find it on the notepad she handed us), she asked what exactly vegan was and what could I eat. Eventually they found something off the lunch menu. 2. My boyfriend ordered the breakfast wrap with chicken. I don't know why they called it chicken, it was cheap chicken sausage from goodness knows where. 3. They had no nut or soy milk (they used to) and their previous range of stunning fresh pressed juices has been traded for water or apple juice. 4. When you advertise as having homemade everything, you can understand our disappointment at the yukky factory bread that was served up as toast. Plus the small plastic packs of clover butter. Not the natural, local, organic and healthy vibe that it used to be. 5. When we wanted to leave we were presented with the bill and informed that it was cash only. No cards, no Zapper like they used to have. A bit of a bad time to tell people of the limited way to pay. By chance we has cash, but in this day and age at least tell customers up front. 6. Generally the food was acceptable but certainly not great or even unique. When I asked for some fresh chilli or spicy sauce they came back with cheap sweet-chilli sauce. Really? Really Sadly the cafe has become like everyone else in the area. Their only plus is a great view. As a vegan, I was really keen to support this place. But sadly I will not be going back.More

Why are you serving chicken and fish now? And where's all those epic vegan dishes? So disappointed! I'm so sad to see one of my favourites has changed owners and they no longer wave the vegan or vegetarian flag. The waitress wasn't even sure what...vegan was... I'm no longer a fan and wanted to save the time of any other keen vegan or vegetarians... I'm afraid you'll have to find another place guys! And Shunyata... Hope you return to the way things were - they were working!More

Wow, what a setting... what a view. Super friendly service, very delicious food, prices ok but portions a bit small. Nut mayo is out of this world!

I absolutely love the beautifully fresh food and juices at this cafe. The chef clearly prepares it with love and thought which is appreciated. It's also great that I can easily get vegan food, which is always a challenge at conventional restaurants. The view and...the setting is absolutely lovely. My only gripe is that the cafe is badly understaffed. I've been here twice, the second time the chef was also operating as the waiter - taking orders, setting/clearing the table and bringing the food. Because of this, service was really slow (though super friendly). If you are prepared for a really relaxed meal this is ok, but don't go with the expectation of fast food and slick service. I think they could do well to hire a few waiters and helpers to keep the magic happening in the kitchen while the rest happens.More

Truly deLIGHTful! The space is beautiful - the vista of a thousand hills and gardens full of home grown veg and medicinal herbs. The food was so yummy and staff a source of knowledge and pure hearts! THANK YOU!
