About
OUR STORY Bruce McGuigan grew up near the water, spending his time recreational and commercial fishing until his passion led him to open Captain Mac's Bait & Tackle. Opening the doors in 1983, Bruce and his father, Charles "Mac" McGuigan, provided Fenwick Island with professional equipment and expert advice for 32 years. In 2012, Bruce and his family chose to grow their passion for fresh, local seafood and opened Lone Mullet Seafood Market next door. Specializing in freshly caught fish, local stone crab claws, and steamed-to-order Maryland blue crabs, Bruce began the transition from catching to cooking. Having spent much of his life fishing in small towns from the Florida Keys to Baja, Bruce noticed a correlation between fresh fish and good food. With his "simple-is-better" mindset, Bruce began planning his next move. After the 2013 season, with a little push from Hurricane Sandy, the McGuigans tore down the old tackle shop and began a new. After a 20-year dream, the doors opened just in time for Memorial Day weekend of 2014, and Captain Mac's Fish House quickly became a local sensation. We specialize in fresh, local seafood that comes right from the boat to our showcase. Here at Captain Mac's, we believe that fish should never be frozen, farm-raised, or shipped across the country. We strive to carry the freshest possible product, sourced from local fishermen here in the DelMarVa area whenever possible. We have a FRESH SEAFOOD MARKET carrying a variety of fish, shrimp, clams, oysters, stone crab claws, live crabs, and lobster ready for you to take home and cook yourself. We also steam to order crabs, shrimp, lobster, and clams. If you're not in the mood to cook, let us do the work for you! Place your order at the counter, grab a seat at your favorite colored picnic table, and enjoy the beautiful view of the Assawoman bay and Ocean City skyline while you wait. Or, see if you can identify the many shorebirds that frequent the marsh. Our goal is to serve fresh seafood, cooked to order the way you like. We serve a full LUNCH AND DINNER MENU consisting of our fresh catch of the day prepared fried, blackened, or grilled. Try our delicious homemade crabcakes, customer-favored fish tacos, appetizers including shrimp and shellfish, and many more dishes. We also serve wine by the glass or bottle as well as beer, emphasizing our local craft breweries. Please come in and see us and try a taste of the freshest possible local seafood from the man that knows best.

My husband wanted a fresh fish sandwich. I wanted a shrimp salad sandwich. And we both wanted carry out. His rockfish was exceptional, lightly breaded and perfectly fried. Shrimp salad was a good value, with great home-made, waffle-cut potato chips. Cucumber and tomato salad could have used a bit more vinegar.

My wife and I stopped here on a whim for a spot of lunch on a sunny Saturday and it was wonderful! She got the seared tuna sandwich (they'll make it rare or to your liking) and it was the biggest piece of fish I ever saw on a bun! I got the blackened tilefish sandwich and it covered both halves of the bun as it was served open faced... Not only was the food great, we sat out on the porch which is literally on the bay, with an incredible view. We'll be back SOON!!!

Great food, really good and fresh. Seating was limited, but we snagged a table just opposite the osprey nest (the restaurant hosts an osprey cam!). That was well worth the somewhat slow service, but they were very busy, so we gave them a pass on that. We both had the captain’s platter, with an extra crab cake, and the portions were a nice size. The restaurant is very casual - you order at the counter and your name is called when they trays of food are ready. The counter folks were very friendly, and you could occasionally catch a glimpse of the steaming room, where some of the real magic happens!

I was very disappointed with this place. We waited 50 minutes for our meals - 1 piece of corn, 1 crab cake entree, 1 scallop entree and 2 crab cake sandwiches. The crab cakes were awful in both taste and texture. The rest of the items were mediocre. Not a place Od recommend.

Family of 4 dine in - took 50 min to get our food and we wanted to love it but just didn’t. Fried shrimp (light batter was nice but small shrimp), friend clams (heavy batter over powering), wonderful fresh corn on cob, slaw was good, cute salad eh! My son loved his rockfish and raw oysters. Pricing was very fair, service average.

After reading some of the other reviews, I guess we were lucky and had absolutely zero wait. Counter server(s) was extremely friendly, patient and helpful. The crabs were fairly priced, not like the tourist spots in OC. Great outdoor seating with a view over the back back, perfect for families as it has picnic tables. The main cook/chef did, "table touching" checking on our satisfaction. The Captain also made the rounds and I asked him for a quick crab picking technique, which he obliged. He also offered his preference of dipping the crab in apple cider, which I appreciated, thanks Captain! Considering the current labor-stricken climate we all live in today, I found the staff extremely friendly and welcoming and the crabs were spot on. Highly recommend and look forward to coming back again!

We've been eating at Mac's on a regular basis since Bruce converted the bait and tackle store into the restaurant. Quite simply, nearly every other establishment in the area gets their seafood from Sysco whereas, as a result of his deep connections in the fishing business, Bruce gets his right off the boat. Try a blackend tile fish sandwich and jonah claws. If it's not up to your standards, go back to red lobster, it's more your style. PS: The parking lot can get full because the food is awesome and people flock to Bruce's kitchen, so if parking next to another car is a negative criteria of your review, please consider your go to red lobster Spalding as malls usually have exceptional parking options.

Been there twice in the last few weeks. Great both times. First time was during covid so outdoor seating only. Ate at the end of the porch, very beautiful view. Both had mahi mahi sandwiches which both had huge piece of mahi that was much bigger than the roll. Delicious! Recently ate there again, seated inside since it was breezy. All seating is at picnic tables, very casual. You order at the counter and they call you when ready and you pick it up at the counter. This time had tuna sandwich which was absolutely delicious. Hugs piece of perfectly grilled tuna that was so moist, absolutely the best piece of tuna I have ever had. Came with homemade chips. This place is so clean, we will be back!!!! They also have a seafood market inside, it all looks so fresh. We will be buying some of their fresh tuna next time!

Uninspiring captains platter for a lot of $$$. 2 small pieces of fish, 2 very small scallops, a few odd tasting shrimp with fries ( these were the only good thing) and a non-description cucumber /tomato salad. We had locals sell us on this place and maybe an off day but wouldn’t recommend it.

The staff and the food are consistently reliably good. Staff is friendly, welcoming and eager to serve. The food is always a hit. I’m a sucker for the fish tacos, my husband tends to gravitate towards a fish sandwich platter. Although delicious, starting with the smoked fish dip left us taking a good portion of our meals home. But the leftovers made for a great snack that night! The parking can be hit or miss but it’s worth a try for this wallet-friendly gem.

Great view. Fast casual service. Order at the counter and they call you name for pickup. Self serve soda and utensils. Takes about 15 mins for food as it’s busy and cooked fresh. We got the sandwich platter, filet platter, and the special whole snapper. Food was delish and fairly priced and portioned. Dog friendly.

We always stop here to get fresh caught shrimp. They have a seafood restaurant and a fish market in one building. Eat fresh seafood at the restaurant or get fresh from the market. They will even steam it for you. It's a regular stop for us.

Hello, while we are very sorry you did not enjoy your experience with us, this is not accurate information. For carry-out crabs, there is a $5 difference in price between live and steamed crabs. $5 per dozen for the steaming. For dine-in crabs, we charge the steamed price per dozen, then a $5 flat rate table charge. This is due to all of the items that crab eaters dining in with us use that carry-out customers do not, as well as to pay our staff for the labor that does not accompany carry-out crabs. I explained this to you on the phone when you called, and you posted an inaccurate review about our business policies.
