We're about good food, and good people. We make everything ourselves, bases are slow fermented daily to create an unique flavour, we hand-roll the pasta everyday, the vinaigrette, desserts, ice-cream is all made by us...and we only use fresh local produce.

Friendly server who provided attentive service. Good range of pizzas. Both my wife’s Hawaiian and my spinach and feta pizza had a thin base, plenty of toppings and tasted great. Perfectly cooked. Very reasonably priced. Will definitely be coming here again during our 5 night hotel stay

Charlies was near the hotel where I was staying and generally gets very good ratings. I was warmly welcomed and allowed to choose my table. The staff started up the portable gas heater next to my table which made for a cozy experience despite sitting outside in the winter. The menu has a good range of pizzas and pastas and includes a number of options for vegetarians. I had the mushroom lasagna. It was HUGE and really flavorful. I could only eat half of it. I also tried a slice of the chocolate cheesecake which was better than average (cheesecake in South Africa is never quite what I am expecting as an American who holds everything to a New York cheesecake standard). The staff were friendly and provided good service.

Our first time visiting, we ordered a pizza to go, tired and hungry from a long travel day. The guy who took our order assured us that a large would be ample for two adults. We should have known by the relatively low price that it was not going to be enough food. With cracker-thin crust (and because it’s wood fired, much of it is burned and inedible), the pizza is delicious (love the sauce), but it takes a large for a hungry adult’s dinner. Their delivery was quick and easy using WhatsApp. I recommend the salami, which has a nice amount of basil and rocket to complement the saltier pepperoni.

Charlie’s is a favourite but this is the Second time the service was terrible.
The first time the waitress never could be found, we had to keep asking for orders to be taken.
This time, We waited 25 minutes for drink orders to be taken
Another 20 minutes to get our drinks
Eventually 30 minutes later the Food arrived cold.
My order arrived with the wrong sides and another 5 minutes taken to receive my cold food.
No salt and pepper on the table either.
Table next to us had the same issue who are foreigners visiting - took 20 minutes to bring an orange juice and when discussed with the manager he said it has to be freshly squeezed.
The food was good and the waiter was good - however the bar and food support needs major improvement.

Used to be one of my favorite spots, sadly the standard has just dropped. Had pavlova cake and the meringue in the cake tasted like cardboard. The pizza bases on 2 separate occasions were tough and oily. Are they using vetkoek dough??? Meagre toppings. Just very disappointing altogether. Better quality or new recipes needed.

We were staying over for the night and this place was the best rated in town and we could walk there.
It’s nicely set out and the day we went there was live music from about 6.30pm.
We ordered pizza not one of best I’ve ever but it filled a gap.
The overall service was hit and miss. The lady serviced us was pleasant but you had to keep trying to get her attention if you wanted another drink. If you asked someone else it was if its not my area wait for you sever type attitude and there was one lady walking had a face like thunder and looked like she could not be bothered being there at all.
I liked the set up and decor just a shame about the food and service.

We stayed for two nights at P.E. Our host recommended Charlie‘s Pizza & Pasta and he was absolutely right to do so.
Even with an ongoing power outage for now over 48 hours three generators ensured the ongoing service. Thus we were able to enjoy both evenings there with delicious food and a variety of drinks. The prices are reasonable and the staff done a great job creating a cheerful amorphere.

My youngster felt like pizza for a change. For a change we decided to try a non fast food eatery. Charlie's Pizza ( the Village Local section) turned out to be a great choice. Our family of six enjoyed the food, the lovely thin based pizzas and the 2 boys thoroughly enjoyed the casual chessboard interaction with other restaurant patrons. Service was spot on too.

Stayed in Summer strand for many business trips but never been to this place until yesterday. We ordered a pizza each and was not impressed. If you like a limp ,wafer thin pizza base with toppings falling off then this is the place for you. Waitress didn't seem interested ,basically just asked for a drinks order and food order...not the most inviting place

An overnight stay in Gqeberha had us stumble on Charlie's. This restaurant is a must. Lovely service and for a Monday night live music with a very talented musician. The music allowed conversation and was well chosen for a family eatery. The food was delicious. A pizza oven baked hake topped with parmesan and served with a side salad. A delicious prawn and chicken pasta. Well seasoned, creamy and allowing the prawn flavors to come through. A delicious seasonal greens salad with generous Parmesan shavings and a scrumptious salad dressing. A phenomenal lamb shank pizza which was to die for. And then, just when we thought it could not be surpassed, the ultimate..... A macadamian nut baked cheesecake which has to be the best cheesecake ever. Light and just superb. A carrot cake for Mom, equally as delicious. Give Charlie's a try, you won't be disappointed.

Visited Charlie's as a group of 6 tonight for dinner, as it had been recommended. Jonah was our waiter - he was very friendly, polite, helpful and guided me with my choice of food and a suitable bottle of wine. I chose the seared kudo which was delicious. Not a dish you come across very often in the UK! Jonah even ordered us two ubers and waited with us until the second car arrived. Fabulous night out thank you Charlie's and especially Jonah.

I have visited Charlies many times over the past four years for breakfast and lunch and have never been disappointed with my meal. On my most recent South Africa vacation, I visited for dinner for the first time,. The pizza and pasta dishes were delicious. As always, breakfast was outstanding at a great price. The service staff is always friendly and attentive. When in Port Elizabeth, Summerstrand a visit to Charlies will never disappoint.

We ate here a lot as it was the closest place to the appalling Tabu at the Radisson.
Great pizzas (thin and crispy), excellent tasty pasta dishes. They do affogato for dessert which is always a plus in my book, although I neither expected nor wanted three large scoops of ice cream. Wine is good and cheap and it's a nice atmosphere, with live music on some nights.
It was busy when we visited, which will have been exaggerated by the presence of som many cricket supporters, but we found it necessary to book - especially to get a table either outride or near to a window, as it does get very hot.
Location is not perfect - it's on the first floor of a small shopping centre. Don't bother trying to take any short cuts - the gate to the rear is locked at night, and the grassy area in front was covered in broken glass. Just take the long way round, ie the road just to the east of the grassy area, and you will be guaranteed a good evening with great food.

It was our first visit and we were pleasantly surprised by their interesting menu .The service was excellent and professional. Beautiful setting with a view and not noisy at all. We had a smoked salmon salad bowl and a chicken salad, which were delicious. The lemon meringue was a bit too sweet and the 'lemon' part dry and chewy. We enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back.

It’s easy to forget that Charlie’s is more than just a pizza place. (Though their pizzas are fantastic!) They have a wide array of delicious dishes, including gnocchi and lasagna, as well as interesting salads and desserts. The service is efficient and friendly, and the prices are more than reasonable. Highly recommended.
