Delicious as ever and we felt totally safe with their re-opening standards

We arrived for an early dinner and could pick from tables on the patio or a few on the lawn. It was 90 degrees, but they had umbrellas up and there was a slight breeze, so it was nice outside. The picnic tables were spread far enough apart that we felt it was very safe. The waiters were wearing face masks and gloves, and they kept their distance as much as possible. They were very friendly and courteous and happy to be working. Of course the food was delicious as always. My husband always orders the lasagna and asks them to crisp up the top so that the cheese is a bit crisp. And I tried the ravioli with pesto and it was also very good. I had to take home half of the ravioli so we could split a strawberry shortcake. This is our favorite restaurant for this dessert. They are the best.

Boccali's IS the BEST!

They never let us down with their pizzas and fresh grown herbed meatballs...simply unparalleled, even by my Italian grandmother (sorry, Nana!) AND, you must save room for that fabulous strawberry shortcake. This is an infallable destination for our beautiful motorcycle ride from Valencia. So happy the patio dining is open. We would go more often, if they were pet friendly.

Strawberry shortcake shoots to the top of the charts!

The Caprese salad was delicious and bruschetta was so tasty! I couldn't get enough. Everyone loved their choices of pizza, eggplant salads, etc. But the true highlight was the strawberry cheesecake! The biscuit was the best I've ever had. On the way out we bought their home grown produce which consisted of oranges, zucchini and the sweetest oranges which we juices for breakfast the next morning. I highly recommend!

Fun for families

Food isn’t great but you get a lot of it. The reason to go here is for the setting: it’s like going back to the innocent 50’s, a whitewashed farmhouse at the end of road Ojai. Summers are the best when it’s warm & everyone sits outside at picnic tables. BOCCALI’S serves pizza, pastas, eggplant parm, fresh tomato salads, & huge strawberry shortcakes.

Terrible Pizza

I specifically ordered a thin crust on my Pizza, which was not the way I received it. Also, they leave so much bare dough around the sides of the pizza, which is a real waste, I felt like I was eating more dough than sauce or cheese. If I wanted bread, I could have ordered that. It is a shame that they even bother to make pizza, because honestly I am from the East Coast and this was the worst pizza I have ever had! I was unable to put the correct date when I visited because the system didn't go back that far, but I believe it was in 2019.

Boccali’s is a great place to eat if you like doughy pizza, being ignored for a while, and waiting about an hour to get your food served. While it has quite a reputation among Ojai locals and tourists I’m not sure it’s deserved. The meat sauce on the eggplant Parmesan was so over-seasoned it was almost inedible. Many locals go just to see and be seen. No thanks.

Soupy Alfredo sauce

We were passing through on family vacation. We saw the restaurant away from everything and it was packed so we were excited. We were quite disappointed. We ordered Alfredo, spaghetti with marinara, and a pizza. It was not great. The pizza had entirely too much sauce on it and the cheese was falling off as a result. The sauce was dull and lacked any distinguishable flavor profile. The Alfredo was soupy and the only flavor we could pick up was garlic...and a lot of it. We are very used to a thicker cream/butter based Alfredo so this was not enjoyable. The spaghetti was good but not memorable. The strawberry shortcake we got was delicious. It was enough for our family. The shortcake is $10. All in all, we would not eat here again if passing through and I probably would not tell our friends in the area about it. Also, the flavor profiles we didn’t find could be a geographical difference as we are not from California.

Great Food

This was my first time here but my family has been many times. We sat outside and even though it was warm it was pleasant. We had a small pizza which was delicious. Broccoli and garlic and garlic bread. And, three entrees. Lasagna, carbonara and spaghetti with meat sauce. It was all delicious. And then strawberry shortcake. Fantastic. They grow the strawberries and many of the items served in their dishes. They also have a winery. I would definitely return.

A Very Filling Lunch

On a day trip to Ojai, we stopped here for lunch. The venue is quite informal and the food is good. We both enjoyed a Topa Topa IPA and shared an antipasto plate. The antipasto plate was brimming with goodies and was delicious. We ordered a medium pizza, which is much more than the two of us could eat, it was very good, although I would’ve preferred a bit more tomato sauce. I was disappointed that they did not have the summer tomato salad, that’s advertised online, but I guess it was still too early for tomatoes. And of course we had to try their vaunted strawberry shortcake. It did not disappoint. Service was particularly good, thanks to our server Jeffrey.

Very casual atmosphere, excellent pasta at reasonable price

We went in September for dinner. The atmosphere is very casual with plenty of outdoor seating. The service was quick and friendly. We ordered the pasta boccelli, which I highly highly (duplicate intended!) recommend, which has fresh tomatoes and basil (yummy) with bowtie pasta. We also had the portobello ravioli which was also very good. It all tasted extremely fresh and was delicious. The crowning glory is, of course, the strawberry shortcake. My husband raved about the delicious strawberries, but I think the best part of this dessert is the shortcake. It has a crispy outside and a very tasty and not-too-sweet interior. A perfectVery good whipped cream topping. Come hungry because the portions are large. I highly recommend this place for a relaxed evening out.

Love this place but miss the indoor seating

Have always stopped here when visiting Ojai for the fresh produce and delicious pizza and pasta dishes. Our only complaint is that for the past 2 years, the restaurant has restricted patrons to seating outdoors, even though there is a perfectly fine indoor dining room. The outdoor benches are really hard, the nearby road is extremely noisy, and the flies and brutal heat make what used to be a great dining experience unbearable. Open the dining room again! Please! Otherwise, we will probably skip this place during future Ojai visits.

Nice afternoon

We drove out from the Santa Clarita Valley and enjoyed a pleasant afternoon drive. What a spectacular view of Ojai from the 150 Highway! And just as we entered the valley we stopped at Boccali's for some wine-tasting and delightful pizza. Even though the temperature was only a little less sweltering than at home, it was pleasant on the lawn where the restaurant has set up outdoor seating. The food was delicious, the service was good, and the wines were tasty. We will be back.

Loved Our Meals

We got take out from Boccali's while staying in Ojai! It was absolutely delicious! We enjoyed a combo pizza and Caesar salad. We also got spaghetti and cheese bread that was wonderful. We definitely will be back next time we are in town!

Perfect place for a relaxing lunch!!

Strawberry shortcake is fabulous! Lasagna dishes and antipasto salad are enough for two to share. Nice wine list, pleasant wait staff, beautiful location.
