We were visiting from out of state, and spent $80 on Uber to get to and from this restaurant, because we absolutely loved the Din Tai Fung in Las Vegas, and were hoping for a repeat of that outstanding experience. This one did not live up to the Vegas experience.
Good points: The food was good (though a notch below Vegas, which was excellent), convenient location, we had reservations so did not have to wait long, and the staff was nice.
However, the ambiance was not as nice, and we felt very rushed. We generally do not take very much time when dining, so I do not like feeling rushed.
We would possibly visit again if nearby, but would definitely not go out of our way to dine here again.

Their food and dipping sauce has an exceptional taste, made of world class ingredients. Very satisfying.
The ambiance, flatware, tables are high end, servers are well trained, very accommodating and ready to serve with a warm smile.

Yeah, there's that good. And I only had the soup dumplings, spicy wontons and green beans and garlic. With a delicious orange green tea.
So the staff is great, if you are unfamiliar with Taiwanese food, they walk you through the menu and make recommendations. Friendly staff.
Bad news. You'll have to wait. Choosing the bar line is faster, making an early reservation like I did even better (they open at 10:30 AM). I hear the wait can be up to 2 hours for a table, or more on weekends.
I was in Shanghai about 3 months ago and had soup dumplings in a hole in the wall little shop my friend from Shanghai said was one of the best in the city. Din Tai Fung comes as close to that as I have had outside of China.

We have previously visited and ate at the bar, which was a wonderful experience. Be prepared for a 2 hour wait at all times of the day. We went on a Saturday night this time, close to 9.30PM. The food was great as always, however, we felt rushed because the server forced us to place our entire order, and all the drink we were anticipating we were going to have, before the 10.15 kitchen “closing time”. Still the dumplings were amazing, the bok choy was delicious, and the crab soup dumplings were out of this world good. Decent value for money spent too, we did not leave hungry.

CON: I still give this place 5 stars, but we can start with what I’d personally like to see improve. The wait time is long, on a Wednesday afternoon we waited 2 hours to be seated for a party of two. Then again I understand this is a popular spot, they seemed short staff (as the rest of the country right now due to labor shortage), and the establishment simply isn’t large enough to accommodate to the large crowds who enter the plaza. So although the wait time was long, I was not bothered, because having came here once before, I know the food is good, the service provided is excellent for their given conditions.
PRO: for starters, every employee here seems to be well trained in proper etiquette for their positions. Not only that but they are all so helpful, and considerate. I truly felt respected by the workers here, as a person, and guest. Our server helped us figure out the menu, options, and how to eat the foods we ordered. It was so fun, and I felt so included in learning a different cultures form of dining etiquette. She made to sure to recommend wonderful ways to enjoy our food as well. The service support was also very helpful in recommending and making sure our table was always accommodated at all times.
The food was excellent! This is my second time coming here, and I’m just glad I tried different things, their buns are wonderful, I personally could not stop savoring the chocolate dessert bun. The food here is always warm, and they’ll even ask you such questions as to which good items I’d like to enjoy first, so that every food item is fresh to our table. I will be coming back here when I get the chance, and despite the wait, this place has my loyalty.

I ordered four items and they were all equally delicious, but make certain to use the sauces. Seaweed salad, pot stickers, dumplings, and the sautéed kale with garlic, YUM! Maybe I just need to get accustomed to California prices, but I thought $55 before tip was very pricey for this meal. Regardless, I’d return and recommend.

This is a restaurant for people that care way too much about how wonderful perfectly made dumplings are. If you do not care, you will not understand why people rave about this place. I really enjoy xiao long bao and I have gone to places around the country to try them. I have read about Din Tai Fung and how they approach the "art" of making dumplings. I have had this place on my list to try whenever I got back to the West coast. We got in the walk in line before opening at 10:30 am, put our names in and then wandered the mall for an hour plus. We ordered crab and pork XLB - they were wonderful. Tender as anything with a wonderfully thin dumpling shell and not chewy at all. The soup was tasty especially with the vinegar, soy, and ginger. The spicy wontons came next. They too were delicate and wonderful, although I am a pepperhead and would have liked more heat. The potstickers came out and were a beautiful combination of thin and crispy. The soups were excellent with tender noodles and the hot and sour was some of the best I have ever had. Two of the desserts we ordered were OK - the red bean paste sticky rice and the taro buns. They were decent, but not up to par with the rest of the meal. The dessert that was over the top and trumped everything else was the chocolate filled xiao long bao. Imagine the inside of a lava cake but in a little tender dumpling package. It was unbelievable.

My wife & I had lunch at Din Tai Fung & it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. This was our first visit and the service was awesome. Everyone was very pleasant & very helpful. Jennie was our server & she was the best, very patient as she answered all of our questions with a smile & explained everything in detail. Jennie helped us with our order, making recommendations that were really awesome. Everything we ordered was so delicious. We ordered the Pork Xian Long Bao, pork soup dumpling which was made famous by this restaurant. Pork dumpling steamed to make a soup within the dumpling. This was very tasty & fantastic. Our next item was the Shrimp & Pork Spicy Wonton, another dish made famous by this restaurant. A boiled dumpling with a spicy red sauce poured over. Another excellent dish. We also ordered the Sautéed String Beans, sautéed & cooked with garlic, which may have been the best dish we ordered. I couldn't top eating this. Lastly, Shrimp Fried Noodles. This dish was good and we ate it all, but didn't compare with the other dishes we ordered. Everything was just fantastic & we ate it all. I know we'll be back & we'll try new dishes. I can't wait. Be prepared to wait a long time. We arrived at 1:30 P.M., expecting to miss the lunch crowd, but we ended up waiting 1 hour to be seated. Quite a line still at 2:30 when we were seated.

This is my new favorite Taiwanese restaurant! One could tell the food was going to be good when the line to get in for lunch at 2:40 pm was out the door and around the corner at the South Coast Plaza Mall with a wait time of 2 hours. The boba and matcha ice tea with sea foam, spicy noodles, Xiao Long Bao, fried dumplings, shrimp fried rice and of course the soup dumplings were definitely worth the wait. I’ve never tasted such flavorful dumplings before. There were many servers attending to us. They were prompt, friendly and helpful with the menu. Want to know how those delicious dumplings were made? You can observe workers through a glass partition, molding and shaping the dumplings. The menu price range was between $5-$25, mostly around $10 for a food item, which is reasonable. Din Tai Fung restaurants can be found around the world including the western part of the United States. Look for one near you! You’ll get hooked!

Second time to this location and had an even better time, if that is possible. Last time, we had to wait much longer, but we seemed to hit the sweet spot this time and only had a 15 minute wait for 4 of us. Great xiao long bao, hot and sour soup, and pork fried noodles. The thing that put it over the top is the dish of chocolate mochi xiao long bao for dessert. They are such a glorious texture with the warm chocolate busting through the dumpling wrapper as you chew. Always happy to come here and the staff was great.

We had heard a lot about Dintai Fung and the different kinds of alternative food offered. We were not disappointed. All the different kinds of plates we ordered were at least very good and considering the rapid service and the fair prices then you have a very good place to enjoy Chinese food. We were there the night of the Oscars and almost at closing time so we did not have to wait for a table but we had been warned that the waiting time for a table may excced an hour.

Finally was able to get into this restaurant, always busy! Worth the wait, had cucumber appetizers, crispy and sweet flavor. Traditional potstickers were savory and crispy. Beef broth soup has excellent cooked noodles. The best are the signature dumplings, that have soup and meat inside! What a treat!

We dropped in after a day at Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. It was a Monday late afternoon and we still had a c.1 hour wait for a table. As usual the food quality and taste is excellent along with every DTF restaurant we've visited.

There were 6 in our party and we ordered a lot of food. My son recommended the place and it did not disappoint. We ordered a variety of dumplings, garlic string beans, shrimp fried rice, shrimp fried noodles, potstickers and buns. The food kept coming and we ate it all and had a little to take home as well. We visited during midweek in the afternoon and we did not have a reservation. We waited about 25 minutes for our table. The staff was pleasant and efficient. We will return whenever we are on the West coast.

Service was very good. No complaints there. However, we had heard several times how good the food was. Started with sticky pork ribs. Tough, sugary and mainly bone. Had 5 types of Dim Sum, ok, filling was sparse and 2 had little flavor at all. Dessert was the hot chocolate bun. Good but again, mainly bun and undercooked.
I'm comparing this food to world renowned Dim Sum restaurants in Hong Kong and the San Gabriel Valley of California. Not only are these restaurants cheaper but you're not hungry when you walk out. For the cost, Din Tai Fung should have been top shelf.
