A delightful surprise and one of the best meals

An extremely warm welcome set the scene for a memorable family meal. We were offered a table in the small covered patio area that overlooks the sea. We ordered the seafood risotto and the grilled calamari which was delicious. One the recommendation of our waiter we tried the rose which was awesome. The kids had chicken soulaki and pizza which they gobbled up. At 5 EUR the portion size was very generous and the quality high. The calamari with garlic and chilli remains a highlight of the trip so far. At the end of the meal they gave us complimentary orange cake and raki which tasted out of this world. The service was professional, enthusiastic, warm and friendly. Exactly what you hope for on a vacation to Crete. We love exploring and finding new restaurants. This is definitely one that we want to return to (and have already which is most unusual for us).

Very good food, friendly service, great view

Reservations recommended. There is an amazing view and so for best seats for the sunset, book early! That said, there are a lot of good seats with views on the outdoor patio. Service was friendly and the food was good. The smoked pork appetizer was particularly good. Overall this was a lovely dinner - the only detractors were that it is a rather busy area and there were some nearby places playing music loudly (annoying) but not the entire meal, and that can't be avoided in a touristy area like Plakias, unfortunately. The restaurant itself was quiet and pleasant, and very popular. Very limited parking nearby so go early if you drive.

Fish a speciality

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at this restaurant with fish caught straight from the sea that day. Beautifully presented with vegetables alongside. Very pleasant and helpful owner. Outside and covered seating both offer a great unobstructed view of the sea.

I wish I would enjoy their food

Been there now three times during our 3 week's stay. My husband loves their fish but I'm a more of a seafood person. First time I had grilled octapus, it had a really stange taste, some sort of a marinade, did not like. Next time I had kalamari with garlic and hade to have a double Bailey's afterwards in another bar to wash the taste from my mouth. Today had prawns marinara, ok.... I simply do not understand why this place is esteemed such a great restaurant. I such do hope my husband does not want to go there any more. Actually, they served him fake whiskey in the end for (paid) dessert and he confornted them only to have 'we can show you the bottle'. He has had his share of Johnny Walker and knows the taste. The service varies, sometimes they forget you for half an hour, especially after dessert.

Overrated but stunning view

The location is stunning which is why I am giving it two stars. We visited many restaurants during our time in Plakias and everywhere the food was excellent. However Gioma was definitely not up to the standard of the others. The Greek salad was tiny and not as tasty as others we had had, the vine leaves we’re tasteless and the pizza was very salty. Although the food was very nice, the service was very slow, even though there was no shortage of staff. We waited more than half an hour to place our order, but were overlooked when a table of six sat near us, we were left waiting while they were seen to first. Will we return, no there are far more very nice places to eat.

We phoned to book and they answered that you can not book and arrive before 20.30 to find a place. We arrive at 19.50 we find a free table, but they made us get up because it was booked! Let's start well. I let it slide so I wouldn't ruin my evening. They give us a table that I would never have chosen, away from the sea and with traffic views, but patience, we adapt. In my opinion the fundamental problem of this place is not the quality of food or portions, on this I can not say anything all good and adequate, but it is the service. Practically I had to get up three times, to ask for something, (the fionite water, bread, dressing etc) waiters do not exist, they never pass and you can not intercept them. They bring you the dishes as they come, not all at once, and so there are those who wait and watch and there are those who wait and their plate gets cold. Also to pay I had to go to the kitchen in person to pay after asking twice the bill. So basically, I wouldn't go back and I didn't go back.

THIS place had great ambiance and location, friendly efficient service, EXCELLENT fresh food, complimentary raki and watermelon. The BEST baklava we have had in 6 weeks of travel in Greece and to die for vanilla ice cream made from sheep’s milk. OMG!!

Very tasty food, very polite and helpful personnel. We enjoyed and we definitely advise you to go there. Ideally for couples, you will probably need to book a table prior to your visit or else you will wait for approx. 15-20 mins.

Gioma Taverna is one of our favourite tavernas in Plakias, so we were dissapointed that they only opened the day before the end of our 2 week holiday (UK Easter halfterm) in Plakias; however we manged a delicious lunch there on our last day. Lovely to see the same staff and that they are all safe and healthy - thank you for the same friendly service and super tasty food. There are several options for vegetarian and vegan on the menu, however some limited availibilty this time - had the beetroot and spinach salad which was just divine and still one of my favourite meals on the menu!! Seafood was delicious.

We were to 6 people for dinner there. The view of the setting sun is very nice. The service, however, less. After the other appetizers had been eaten almost completely, the waitress came with the hint that someone else had just served her the last portion of my ordered appetizer. Do I want an alternative? Of course not in the situation. The main course was quite good from the preparation, there is nothing to complain about. However, the unserved starter was included in the bill, which I objected to but did not even have to explain: They knew surprisingly quickly. There are more honest alternatives in Plakias.

GioMa seafood restaurant, Plakias 2032

We tried the GioMa at the end of our holiday and wish we had dined there earlier. I would rate the GioMa as the best restaurant we visited in Plakias (no negative criticism to the other restaurants - all were good). However, the food in the GeoMa was excellent and I recommend the traditional fish soup (the best we'veeverhad), shrimp saganaki, calamari and aubergine saganaki. The house white wine was streets ahead of the other restaurants - fresh, crisp and refreshing... we ended up with two half litre carafes. The GioMa is a must if you visit Plakias, I would also highly recommend the Minoiko, a favourite with the whole family.

The best in plakias

We had dinner five consecutive nights. Fantastic location, practically on the beach. Trained and efficient staff. Wide and quality proposal. Fresh fish is highlighted daily. From red mullet to redfish to tuna etc. you can indulge yourself. All courses are accompanied by vegetables. Apart from the classics of Greek cuisine, all perfectly executed, many variations on the theme are really interesting. How much do you spend: an appetizer, a fish main course, water, half a liter of house wine, a medium beer and two coffees, we have always spent less than thirty euros each. Fruit and raki are always offered at the end of the meal. Unmissable

A beatiful taverna ... just with feet in watet

We enyojed a smart, colorfoul and rich of flavour dinner experience last evening in this taverna. Nice people delicious food among trees with a overlook of a spalla beach. Prices correct!! I strongly suggest also because our waiter told us he is a fan of Inter football club. Will be it tue??? Never mind go and try

Best Fish (Sea Bream) in Crete 2023

The restaurant is right by the sea. If you wish, you can inspect or select the fish of the day. Since it was already sold out, I opted for the sea bream. This was prepared perfectly with lots of garlic. Since the fish tasted so good, we went back the next day and it tasted just as good. It was served with fried potatoes and a few other vegetables. It was the best fish on our Crete vacation in 2023. On Saturdays, the neighboring bar usually has singers in the garden. Then you should definitely make a reservation, especially in high season, as there are not that many tables. It was our discovery in Plakias on this vacation after our favorite restaurant in 2021 had unfortunately deteriorated completely in quality and selection.
