The food was absolutely incredible. This is hands down the best restaurant we have visited in Crete and that doesn’t even cover the service! Helena served us and she was the sweetest and loveliest person. If you want to have a remarkable experience eating right in front of the beach, having absolutely delicious food, and be served by the loveliest staff then you ABSOLUTELY need to go here. They even gave us free appetizers and drinks. AMAZING place! I know I sound obsessed but I kinda am lol

We were on our way to Rethymno and made a stop in Plakias for having lunch. It was a very hot day and we chose ''Sofia Tavern'' only for the covered terrace at first. We ate a very tasty fish soup and for desert we had the chocolate volcano and a hot cretan pie with cheese, walnuts and honey.
The service was so friendly and polite and the food was so fresh, tasty and memorable. We forgot about the hot day for a while and the good food will remain in our thoughts for the years to come.
We would definitely visit the place again if we'll visit Crete again! Thank you!

Our family have been coming to Plakias for the last 14 years, and have eaten at pretty much all the restaurants. Sofias is by far the best restaurant for taste, food quality, and service from the restaurant team. I highly recommend eating here!

great place, after looking for a place to have lunch we were suggested to go to this restaurant by a local. the server, was the grandaughter of the original owner was not only charming, but careful and atention to customer service, she delighted us with a wonderful chat and a great selection of local cousine. if by any chance we come back, definetly will pay another visit.

We have been in Plakias for one week and the last 3 days we have been eating dinner at Sofia.
They have the best food that we have had in Plakias. Kleftiko, Stiffado and Moussaka are truly great, large porsions.
I also had one of the house specials, I cant remember the name but it was chicken in a delicious sauce with raisins. One of the best meals I have had.
The last day we also had dessert, amazing chocolate fondant with ice cream.
The service her is also extraordinary, all the staf make you feel so welcome, they take the time to have a talk and are so funny and friendly.
If we are going back to Plakias sometime we will surely go back to Sofia 🥰

Four of us chose Sofia’s for lunch while we were visiting Plakias. We’re glad we did. Great food, service and views. And we loved the stories (on the walls and in the menus) of George and Sofia who opened the restaurant in 1969. We were served by Sofia’s grand daughter.
Grandma’s Fish in the Oven is a whole fish baked in paper and foil. It was beautifully presented and delicious.

Our family enjoyed some lovely seafood and great service from the staff at Sofias. Great location. All adults and children enjoyed well presented and delicious food. Very happy with service. Well done Angela!

Sofia is probably the nicest restaurant comparing with her neighbors. The food, too. Even we went there on a very quiet afternoon for lunch, the food did not disappoint us. Great sea view and fantastic seafood.

We went in one afternoon and placed our order. There were only two other couples in the restaurant, so it should have been a nice quick meal. After 30 minutes, we checked with the waiter and he said that they were 'preparing the meal'. After a further 15 minutes, we were not prepared to wait any longer so we got up and left, slightly hungrier than when we arrived.

We always do a couple of evening meals here on our hols. This year was as good as always though they have expanded with the number of tables and apparently were a little short staffed. Despite this, we were treated with the usual very friendly service and the meals were fresh and tasty. Waiting times were a little longer, but hey what's the rush, your on holiday ! Enjoy.

It's a modern take on the typical Greek tavern in front of the sea. It's an amazing small restaurant finely garnished with marine theme furnishings. Very tasty dishes, large portions, flawless service. The owners are really kind & careful, we'll satisfy any request you may have.
Restaurant close to the main hotels nearby the seafront. Prices are very low in relation to the quantity/quality provided. Tables outside or inside if you prefer. Strongly recommended for your lunch/dinner to enjoy your view & your Ctrean experience!

Whilst staying for 3 days in Damnoni during our month travelling around Crete we dined twice a Sofias. Such lovely friendly people, the local wine was excellent, we had the Lamb Kleftiko and Seafood Pasta both were really tasty. We also ate here for lunch and tried the Zucchini balls on recommendation, they were awesome in fact the chef came out and shared his secret recipe with me, I have made these on my return which were pretty good but not quite as good as Chefs, maybe its the local ingredients ha ha. Super local restaurant in Plakias, lots of menu choice and of course overlooking the beautiful Libyan sea.

We were in the Sofia restaurant yesterday, a little more than 30 years since my last visit. The food is still as good as I remembered, had the shellfish platter for two, pity that they no longer have the mixed shellfish and fish platter, it's now one or the other. Great food, typical relaxed Greek service - bring a little time - worth the wait though.

We like to eat at a variety of places during our 2 week holiday, and a couple of visits at least to Sofia is a must. It's here that I had the best Lamb kleftiko I've ever eaten in greece when we came last year. From memory this was the first taverna to open in Plakias many years ago. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. Really nice choice of meals and a great location on the sea front.

Ordered tzatziki for starters with bread, but had to wait a long time before we got the food. Tasted just fine. The waiter claimed that we had ordered something else for starters and he brought the dish several times. Wouldn't listen to us. We also waited a very long time for the main course. Mousaka and Stifado tasted just right.
Toilets were very dirty. Lack of toilet paper in both toilets. Is not recommended
