Medousa is a Greek authentic restaurant established in 1991, located just a few steps from Plakias seaside. Medousa, offers traditional greek cuisine with an emphasis on fresh ingredients from local suppliers. The restaurant has a frequently changing menu, revolving around the freshest, seasonal ingredients of Cretan production. The restaurant offers a great variety of special wines originated from Crete and all over Greece. Executive Chef, Michalis Chasikos, combines classical Hellenic food preparation methods with Mediterranean flourishes to create a dining experience guaranteed to please. Fresh salads, pasta dishes, seafood and meat will accompany you through your journey of taste . A glass of wine from our extensive wine list, will be the last component to complete your gastronomic journey. All of the above are available at a friendly price rate. Thoroughly Enjoyable Evening

We arrived about 7:15 and had no reservation. There was one table available, right by a window, and we took it. We found the atmosphere to be pleasant, with quiet music and well spaced tables. Nice linens and glass wear completed the setting. I would call the menu Cretan cuisine, but the setting had an Asian feel and we loved it. Diner began with beautiful hard rolls with olive oil and spices. The rolls were exceptional. We ordered the grilled octopus to share as our starter. It was served on top of pureed fava beans with a sauce of octopus ink and vinegar; and it was garnished with crisp pepper slices and herbs. It was a very nice mix of flavors and textures. For entrees we selected the Linguini with Grilled Shrimp and “Momma’s Traditional Grilled Pork with Mushroom Sauce” and we loved both. Our server suggested a very reasonably priced local wine which paired well with both entrees. We ended with the ubiquitous watermelon. Service was well paced. Attentive, but not intrusive. We were surprised by the pricing. It was incredibly reasonable for the portion sizes and quality.

My favourite place to eat

This has to be my favourite place to eat in and around Plakias. The restaurant itself looks beautiful, neat and cosy. The portion sizes are perfect and the chef does an amazing job preparing them. The plates look well put together and taste fantastic. I have tried almost every dish on the menu and have never been disappointed. My favourite dish is the mussels or the sea bass. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the service is quick and I never feel rushed. It may seem a bit more expensive compared to other local places but the prices are set on quality and it is top quality. For this reason I come here multiple times per year!

delicious meal, kind staff, off the main strip

Ordered the anchovy brushetta and mussels as an appetizer, would recommend! Also ordered the sea bream which was delicious (skip the pasta). Overall the restaurant was very pleasant. Only unfortunate that it;s likely far less busy than usual. All staff took covid precautions seriously. Would go here again!

Delicious food in elegant surroundings

It's well worth seeking out this restaurant, which is in a quiet road a couple of blocks back from the seafront (just past the fish shop). Linen table cloths, quiet cocktail piano music in the background and as a previous reviewer has said, Cretan cuisine with a twist - it's more elegant than other restaurants in Plakias but no more expensive and just as welcoming. I thoroughly enjoyed my sea bream in lemon sauce with wild greens and the panna cotta with pistachio and crumb topping was delicious. A wonderful dinner to round off our stay in Plakias.

Top one restaurant in Plakias

I just had dinner at Medousa, the cuisine is really top level, the place aesthetically very pleasant and the service very good. Few can combine simplicity and innovation with such a success. I had a tuna tartare lemon marinated with avocado cream and sea bass grilled in red lentils salad and pear and lemon sauce, Sublime. You made my day, congratulations to the chefs!

Really Good High End Traditional Food

Small menu, but superbly executed. We had the Cheese Saganaki and Lamb Meatballs to start, grilled calamari, tuna salad, and beef cheek, followed by vanilla ice cream and the lemon tart. We were all really happy with our choices and there was lots of trying each others dishes. Service was fabulous and the surroundings were a little more elegant than the restaurants on the front in Plakias. We visited based on the dive schools recommendation and are very happy we did,

Slow and rude service

Slow and rude service. We waited food for more than an hour. When i mentioned that the food was late, the man waiter had the audacity to blame us, paying customers. A simple 'sorry' would have been enough. Such a shame because the restaurant had a nice atmosphere.

Higher Quality Location

We tested the Medousa restaurant which is in a quiet street, 5mn walking from the beach. The place is very cosy and the food is of higher quality and presentation compared to the ones on the sea side. There are not a lot of Tourists this month, as in any other place and give you an opportunity to have a good private moment. .The starters are very nice as the quite lare and diversified Wine list. The Desserts here are particularly good and if you like the Seafood, go for the entire Calamar 😆

The worst experience ever

I've decided to visit this place, restaurant Medousa, in hope to get excellent service. What I had was the worst service of my life. The food I ordered was very average, but the owner was extremely rude that he should be forbidden working with peaple in any way! Politeness is not what you should expect in this place. He literally drove us away because we didn't order more. We ordered two appetisers and the bottle of wine. Everything could be settled if any politeness was present. Unfortunately, what happened never ever happened to me anywhere anytime. I repeat, the owner or anyone with such abscance of any social intelligence should be banned from working with people! So much rudeness should not be tolerated anywhere especially not in the place that should per se be polite! THE WORST SERVICE EVER!

Unfortunately you came to our restaurant to come up with a problem. The dining process is a team effort! Customer should be relaxed with good intentions in order to enjoy his dinner. Then waiter suggests the best dinner options and and so a reciprocal relationship begins. Unhappily you took the place of a capricious customer that everything was beyond him. It is good to break out where you should and not put up with the rest (in this case with our restaurant). Our behavior was a result of your present in our restaurant that you treat it like a fast food station. Hope the next time you will join us to be calm with an objective view)! Happy holidays!

High quality restaurant with excellent food

We have been to this lovely restaurant a number of times over the years and it is always fantastic. The menu has some traditional Greek taverna dishes but there are also some more unusual dishes to choose from. All are excellent, beautifully presented and delicious. Staff are great, friendly and efficient. We'll certainly continue to visit in the future.

The place to have a ruined evening.

Have been a regular holiday customer for many years, well known to the owner and his father before him. Yesterday, my crispy pork belly arrived cold and decidedly uncrispy. The owner tried to excuse the dish on the grounds it was a salad, even though it was on the menu under meat dishes and served with pita bread. We expected him to reheat the meal but he angrily snatched it away saying that it clearly wasn't wanted. No alternative was offered nor the dish returned. I have never before experienced such rudeness or unpleasantness in a restaurant.

Hello madam it’s Nikos, As you say you are coming so many years to our restaurant, for us that means we make a great job & as honest as possible. About your pork belly you said to me what happened and I explained you right away how we do it & if you want to make you another portion or bring you something else cause you didn’t like it but you said that you didn’t have appetite anymore more so I erased it from your bill. I was never ever rude with you and I don’t really understand why you are lying and over reacting for a place that you were keep coming back for so many years because we had an infelicity. That you so much for your review we look forward to see you again.

Must-eat place in Plakias, one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten!

I have to say, my girlfriend and I have had a good laugh reading some of the questionable reviews giving Medousa’s 1 or 2 out of 5. We were at the restaurant a few days ago and it was one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. The atmosphere and restaurant decor was fabulous, a mix between more traditional and contemporary styles. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive giving recommendations to my dad who wasn’t quite sure what to order. As for the food itself it was absolutely amazing. Living in London I have been fortunate enough to eat at some pretty swanky places, but Medousa’s punches far above its weight providing a dining experience that stands above most of the places I’ve eaten before. Although it’s not the cheapest night out, it is far more than reasonable for the quality of the food provided! I cannot recommend eating here enough, and I’m looking forward to eating here a second time later tonight before I head home!

Over priced and over rated

Spinach pie starter really nice, lamb casserole a different story, three potatoes with extremely salty lamb stew on top, saving grace was there wasn't much of it. Mentioned too much salt to staff but not interested. Most expensive meal in Plakias

It s not only the exceptional food that makes this place special, but it’s also the warm atmosphere and interior design that make this place unforgettable. Congrats to this team, two waiters and two cooks make such a nice work for a so much busy place. The only thing you need is patience, you are on holidays after all.

The only restaurant in Plakias.

I don’t usually do reviews or religion, but thank god we’ve found Medousa on day 3 or a 10 day holiday. We have been out every night since arriving and depressingly come to the conclusion that you can pick any restaurant on the strip, they’re identical… same ingredients, same menu. And then we found Medousa… okay, it’s not on the strip, okay, there’s no TV (seriously, you want to watch TV when having dinner with you family?) but seriously, the chef can cook. Sauces, wham, delicacy, wham, taste, wow, plus 5 star service and ambience. If you want awful moussaka, or something fried, don’t come. If you want Thomas Crown versus Kevin and Perry, don’t come, but if you want a superb meal, cooked by someone who really cares about local ingredients and traditional dishes, there really is only one restaurant in Plakias.
