We were here for a late dinner (late at least for local standards), we were served quickly and the fish and chips (which included cod, shrimps and calamari) came in a generous portion and was well done. Very good white wine as well.
The place is in the centre of Simon's Town, facing a charming harbour, with parking right in front.

We went there for the first time. What an awesome experience it was. We ordered the English Breakfast (served till 12) and 2 Ribs, Chips and Onion Rings. The Food was amazing and ribs was soft and tender. FRAN came to say Hi in Person (awesome woman). Thanks FRAN

After a visit to Boulders were visited Frans in Simons Town , on the main road surround by lots of old historical buildings and on the edge of the harbour with lovely views across the harbour. There was parking under the trees very close by. The most important thing is service and quality of the food. Most of of party had fish & chips , which we had had at many other spots over the past 2 weeks as was taking 2 out of town family members on a tour of Cape Town. This was the biggest and best fish & chips that we had and at R80 was really good value for money. Very well prepared and really tasty which was supported by great service from our waiter , can't remember his name think it was Morghien . Top class and definitely a place i would recommend for the setting , food and service.

Was very disapointed weny to Frans with my 2 little girls after someone recommended the restaurant to me. We sat for 35 min and no one even offered us a menu. People can in after me and were given menus as they sat down. Imagine sitting with a hungry toddler in a room full of people eating. The restaurant was not full to capacity that they can say they were busy. Very disappointed. Thank you for ruining my kids day out.next restaurant i went is bigger and busier than them but within 5 minutes of sitting down i was given a menu and my order was taken. Such a dissappointment

We made a booking at Frans today. It has a lovely setting. My friends and I ordered the same dish, which took a time to come, but actually arrived. I ordered calamari and chips which never arrived. Went to speak to the head waiter who explained that the waiter had made a mistake with the order which I then cancelled after waiting for more than an hour and I was sure the waiter had given to other people who arrived long after we did and whom he knew.
He was totally unapologetic and really spoilt our day.

Staff were rude from the beginning, shooed us off as we asked for a table (there were a lot of free tables). We then sat at our table for 15 minutes and other diners had to offer us a menu as no staff appeared. We then left and went to one of the many other restaurants in the area with friendly staff and delicious food.

When you walk into the restaurant, there is a truly unappetizing smell. We stayed anyway, because the other restaurants in town were closed. The calamari was undercooked. Soggy fries. The salad had been in the fridge for at least a week. Chocolate milkshakes tasted sour, with an aftertaste. Fish and chips were downright wet. We left the restaurant wanting to purge our stomachs.

We went to the restaurant expecting a nice view over the harbor, which however was limited. The restaurant and the terrace are ill-kept, the tables are sticky, some of the crockery chipped. The menu offers fish and seafood dishes most of them deep-fried and as eatable as in any pub. Service is very inattentive.

Having eaten delicious fish and chips here often, I decided to have a lift birthday lunch here recently. We hadn't made a reservation, the outside deck was full, so we sat at a corner table with stunning views. Top class service followed. As the owner, Fran is everywhere. Cooking, waitressing, hosting and clearing tables. She suggested the seafood platter for one which we could share. Delicious perfectly cooked prawns, mussels, fish, tender calamari with rice and chips filled the plate with a small salad. The house wine, a glass of sauvignon blanc, washed it down. We decided to have coffee out on the deck. Fran offered the birthday boy a choice of amazing home baked cakes. I opted for the chocoholic cake; to die for. Frans Place is a gem found in the scenic corner of Jubilee square.

I decided to change my review from a year ago from excellent to bad. This restaurant decides to close when it suits them and not keep open according to the hours they have on Google. Little wonder business is slow for them when they are doing this! I bet they do not close at 7pm on a Friday night, when a table of 20 people may walk in. It's definitely become shoddy, second time of running out of salad when we've ordered, and the attitude is that of.... Only if it's busy and good for US, then we will decide to stay open. What a load of rubbish!!!.
Stop messing people around and make sure you have stock. You're a restaurant for goodness sake!
They close at 7pm by the way. That's dinner time for most.

thank you so much for your responds.fortunately for us we know exactly who we are....yes we ran out of lettuce twice you order at the very end of the day..Luckily for us we didn't run out cause of ordering to little but because of how busy we are,and our suppliers cant keep up with our demand...because we are a restaurant it don't mean we must be open every night late,we have our time we close ,if you don't like it tuffies....and the couple of times we had to close earlier then our trading hours is due to electrical problems..for you not coming to Fran"s place anymore is your lost not ours....

It was a sunny but very windy day in Simon’s Town but we decided to brave the outdoor terrace at Fran’s. We ordered a shared fish platter and a couple of drinks and sat back to enjoy the view. The platter was more than enough for two, calamari, fried fish, prawns and the obligatory fries. For less than the equivalent of £25, it was great value we enjoyed the location, the service was friendly and efficient. A enjoyable lunch.

After a visit and stroll around in Simon's Town, end your visit by having a really nice lunch or dinner here. Chicken snitzel, hamburger or chicken strips or calamari...doesn't matter...all are really tasty. Friendly service.

Had to find a table to sit. Took the servers 30 mins to clear the previous diner's plates glasses etc. I had to walk in the restaurant and ask for a tray to remove the plates. Waiters all over the place but not attentive. Took another 15 mins to order and get the drinks. Food took another 30 mins to arrive, but was hot and tasty the only saving grace. I will not be back. Lovely views over the harbour though.

My friend and I came to the area to see the African penguins at boulders beach and wanted to grab a bit to eat before heading back to Cape Town. This place isn't fancy, but it doesn't pretend to be. If you're just looking for a bit of pub grub then this is a good choice. I had fish and chips which weren't amazing but good enough. The prices were reasonable especially considering the huge portion and the service was fast and friendly.

Wow! We had been out in the area for the afternoon so we arrived at around 17:30 on a Saturday. It is on the water with spectacular views of the ocean and the mountains. The food is very well priced with large portions. Really good homely food. I would especially drive from across the peninsula to come and eat here again.
