A chance discovery (thanks to Tripadvisor) but what a find! We loved the Austrian influences, Jause snacks and cakes. I'm gluten free which can be problematic but Bernhard thoughtfully produced a beautifully presented salad in minutes - and there was a choice of delicious gluten...free cakes, along with heavenly coffee.More

This is my favourite coffee shop in County Durham - the coffee is great, the cakes are fantastic, the staff are friendly and it's dog friendly too!

Cosy cafe with plenty of choice such as pancakes and waffles. The staff are both friendly and make you feel welcome. Worth a visit if looking for a cafe to stop at.

Since lockdown 3 started my life pretty much revolves around going for a walk and finding nice places for a hot chocolate with my daughter. This place does the best I’ve had in ages. Lovely friendly staff and great cakes too ☺️👌

If you’ve been to Austria, then you’ll know that this is a genuine Kaffeehaus, run by an Austrian family. It’s high standard but small menu has everything you would expect and a full range of traditional coffees. Can’t recommend highly enough. No germkondel on the...menu thoughMore

Had a lovely family lunch here today. Two of us had the organic vegetable soup of the day and it was wonderful! There was a delicate spicy element to it, which was unexpected but delightful! The homemade bread was a lovely addition. Our other diners...had the pancakes - light and fluffy, the breakfast with croissant- fresh and buttery, and the farmers breakfast- surprisingly substantial! With hot drinks too, this was a great way to spend a Saturday lunchtime.More

Enjoyed the pancakes and the coffee. The choice of cakes on this first visit was a bit of a let down compared to what their web site showed, maybe because they were due to be closed the next three days. People were lovely, welcoming and...helpful, the service was excellent. Will hope for torte next time!More

We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit. Sorry for the smaller selections of cakes - yes, between Christmas and New Year, we run on a smaller scale - also, as a small cafe we need to go by demand and experience, so...More

Found the establishment as a result of searching trip advisor for a decent coffee near where I was visiting. Went there with my wife and in law at lunch time. We had soup with diced frankfurter, coffee and sachertorte. The soup as filling and tasty...although a tad expensive. I forgave this as the coffee was superb. I had the Indian blend as it was nice and strong. Would I go again, absolutely. This is a locally run establishment and not a chain which is a bonus in my book. Well done.More
