We found ourselves here on a cold rainy Sunday evening in December after a days hiking in the rain. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our friend from cape town wanted to try a bunny chow and so the three of us ended up ordering...the same... I chose a mild mutton bunny chow which I must admit isn't my usual sort of food however I was pleasantly surprised. It was delicious and I enjoyed it. Spicy rather than outright hot which I prefer. The menu has so many items to chose from you are spoilt by the variety. I recommend this fine restaurant to anyone wanting to taste Indian food in a safe pleasant setting.More

Spur of the moment light supper on a Tuesday. I had a glass of red wine (out of a box, but was fairly drinkable!), and an excellent lamb korma. Korma is by nature a mild sauce, though they say they can sharpen it up if...you wish. The lamb was tender and the sauce delicious. Have been here several times before and not been disappointed. My friend enjoyed his lamb tikka masala too. Very good service.More

Indian cuisine is synonymous with Durban and surrounds and Gate of India gives you the opportunity of sampling some of the finest dishes the Indian Culture has to offer. The atmosphere is absolutely spot on, the service was great and the menu offered a great...selection suitable for meat and seafood lovers and vegetarians alike. If hot and spicy is not your thing, you won’t be disappointed as the mild dishes are so tasty - the flavor combinations are superb.More

After a very long lockdown with no takeaways i decided to try out gate of India. I had been craving a bunny chow since the start of the lockdown .. I phoned and ordered a butter chicken bunny chow and a portion of lamb samosas...to go along with my meal . The guy on the phone was very polite and informed me that my food would be ready in 30 minutes.. 25 minutes later I jumped in my car to go fetch my food . On arrival I was greeted by the manager and the owner who were both very friendly and helpful. The restaurant smelt amazing with all the spices being used in the kitchen and the decor was amazing . I then paid for my food and went home . IT WAS THE BEST BUNNY CHOW I HAVE EVER HAD , and the samosas were to die for !! It was the perfect heat and it was over flowing with flavor ! Needless to say I have been back twice since . Will definitely be going back for more !More

The smell was absolutely incredible and it tasted the same!! I finished it so fast and I will definitely be going back once this lockdowm is over! Thank you so much gate of India! Went after looking at alleged reviews on TA I have visited Indian restaurant across the world including in South Africa The whole experience was one of worst I have encountered From the apathy of the staff when we arrived to a problem with payment First...they had no poppadoms as they buy them in not made in house : that is a first can't make poppadoms We asked for a glass of wine after a long debate we found that the glass of wine is from a box and more recognised brand is only sold by the bottle We ordered a soft drink which they brought in a can and a straw for adults to drink : really we had to ask for a glass We ordered a sheek kabeb which was barely adequate and a pakrook platter which were disgraceful and only ate a few We asked for mint yogurt sauce a basic in Indian cuisine: they had none and I assume they could not make: I'm no chef but even I can make it We even had to ask for napkins which were not on the table My partner ordered a lamb rogon gosh which smelt off and she only managed a mouthful. When we informed the waiteress who just laughed and when we pushed she said she would talk to the chef's. We received no feed back A guy came to the table and enquired how was our meal we commented on the poor meal he just walked away. At the end of meal the waiteress even asked if we wanted to take the poor meal home ! We then had a problem in the payment of the bill with cash In summary poor food poor service poor value and overall a poor restaurant Never to returnMore

Fantastic Indian food! While the service may not be the quickest, the ladies and gents certainly try their best. The food however is out of this world amazing, with so many options it is difficult to decide but in my several visits I have not...had a bad meal. The meat has consistently been tender, well seasoned and moreish! The pizza options are also delicious!More

This little restaurant has expanded to a larger premises just behind where they were before. The meals and selection are top class, they are also licenced now so have a nice selection of drinks, they also allow you to bring in your own wine. Service...can be a little slow but the food makes up for it.More
