This was a first time experience for us. The fish dishes were delicious and you could take as much as you liked. The jolly atmostphere made us laugh.

The bread was ok, everything else was terrible!!! The food is a fishy broth based everything... nothing had flavour or taste and all of it seemed to be boiled in salty fishy broth with no garlic butter or flavours..The setting and people is the only...thing worth it! Everything is done on the cheap and this is basically a tourist trap...a one hit establishment you will never return to!!! The all you can eat Seafood part is what gets people interested and that is the mistake the few tiny shrimps were tasteless and have left me feeling ill as everything is boiled and put together for mass . Bread and vegetables is the only thing okish. You could spend half the price at a premium restaurant and get a far superior meal. Don't waste your time or money on going here. I left feeling feeling ripped off .. If you like very substandard and questionable smelling fish the De Vette Mossel Groot brak is for you...More

Great restaurant in a great setting. The food was excellent and all the staff super friendly and helpful. Enjoyed every minute of our stay there. Even managed to see the dolphins swim by. Can only recommend this to anyone who loves fresh seafood. 👍👍👍

Wow what an amazing experience! Great setting, friendly people, well priced and the most amazing food experience. Beware, don’t ear to much bread - you will miss out on all the excellent dishes. Well done team, crew and chefs. We will see you again.

Having been here a few times a few years ago, I was impressed by the quality of food, service and overall experience, I thought it would be the perfect place to host our staff year end function this year. The excitement was short-lived and the...experience went downhill as soon as we walked in the entrance. The lady sitting at the reception on the evening of 20/11/2021 (short blonde/grey hair) was extremely unwelcoming and she had such an attitude when I asked her a basic question on the process for settling the bill for the evening (I had not personally made the booking, my PA did - so I wasn't fully aware of the restaurant's rules etc. ) her response was passive aggressive. A simple yes/no would've been fine, instead she chose to have a very unfavorable attitude. Had it not been for the fact that I had already hired transportation for the staff and they were almost arriving at the restaurant, I would've certainly walked out, solely based on the experience at the reception area within the first few minutes of arrival - it set the tone for the rest of the evening. I'm not sure whether she is the owner or not, either way her hospitality needs to be brushed up.More

This is not our first meal here and we used to bring friends here. After a two year hiatus we were back as we craved the experience. The bar lads were awesome and the hostess still had a great intro to the meal. The bread...at the table was a welcome change and was delicious. After that, it was downhill all the way. The mussels were okay but bland. Snoek is my favourite fish but I only managed two or three bites. It was the most terrible fish in a long while. I had more bread to stabilise my palate. Had a coffee and left. From the first experience to now the standard and experience watered down by poor quality food and with the price tag left a double bad taste in the mouth. The three stars is for the decor and location.More

De Vette Mossel is a very special place where you pay and just eat as much as you can. Its meat and fish and deserts its something for all. There is a huge place for the kids to play which is a bonus for me....The food is tasty and never stops there is no shortage as soon as a certain food is finished they just bring a new one. This place is also open air restaurant with sand floors and takes you straight back into the West Coast. The prices at the bar is very good with delicious cocktails. You must do a reservation before going as its not always open and needs a certain number of people before opening. This place is on the beach so the views and sound of the sea is just fantastic.More

You have to keep an open mind when visiting this restaurant/ beach cafeteria. The food is very South African and mostly seafood except for one other dish and the sides. You have to get up and get your own food as it's available. They advertise...different 'courses' but it's really just different dishes that are served at different times. The food is good, the bread delicious. Make sure to take beach shoes, don't over-dress and go with friends that like an adventure;)More

De Vette Mossel is the coolest place ever! My boyfriend & I went because I saw it on "Boer soek n vrou" & I was like if I'm ever in this area I have to go! We got there and payed at the door. You...get a complimentary glass of wine. The R320 per person is money well spent! The sweet potato is to die for! Here is my advice: 1. You have to make a reservation! 2. Take your family, friends, kids, oupa & ouma 3. Go hungry! 4. Take your own wine, beer, cooldrink etc. (The bar is quite expensive and there is no corkage) 5. BE ON TIME! 6. and the most important (I cannot stress this enough) TAKE YOUR OWN CUTLERY!!!! (No cutlery provided) 7. Don't eat too much bread (although it is delicious) leave space for all the amazing seafood! 8. Take lots of pictures!More

We came for dinner on New Year's eve and were expecting great things. Unfortunately we were bitterly dissapointed and ended up leaving before the end of the meal as we were so unimpressed. The concept of the meal is great fun - come with your...friends, dine on the sand, bring bottles or buy at the bar and the food is cooked on the braai infront of you. As a non-Afrikaans speaker it was a little difficult to understand what was going on beyond the intro, where they did speak English. That said, when the food was ready there was a huge free for all where people pushed and shoved you out of the way to get at food (yes really!). The first course of food was bread which was delicious. The food went down hill from there. Mussels were brought round and were really dry. Snoek was slimy and I didn't even go for the potjiekos which my husband said wasn't great. The squid was OK but nothing special and on the rubbery side. The dessert was melon - and no alternatives offered (I'm highly allergic) - we gave up at that point and left hungry. While this is meant to be all you can eat, we really didn't want to eat the food as it wasn't good. We weren't the only table to leave early. The table next to us left even before we did. On the plus side, there are lovely views of sunset from the beach. But unless you have a window seat or popped outside the property you wouldn't be able to see it. To be fair it probably a great place to come to catch up with friends over wine and beer but not a place you come just for the food. We got sucked in by the positive reviews which would have been more about the atmosphere rather than the food and we came here expecting a decent seafood feast. It's a feast in the sense of quantity but sadly not quality.More

This is a restaurant or more a beach lapa with a unique theme and character. The owner and "braaier" is the anchor of this place. A bubbly and large personality. He presents the menu, venue and "rules" in an unique West Coast manner, that almost...make you think you get a show with food. Food is reasonable and is worth the value if you can control your "lust" for the awesome bread. There's a cash bar and enough play space for children.More

This was truly an experience! From the exquisitely themed decor to the animated host (there's no other way to describe him other than saying he's a host), this place is amazing. The food is superb and you'll struggle to eat everything! Be careful of the..."potbrood" - it is the most delicious evil and you'll easily stuff yourself with it before all the courses have been served. The atmospheer is relaxed, yet also vibey and energetic. You don't feel as if you're at a restaurant, it rather feels as though you're visiting your very entertaining uncle who's an excellent cook! You almost want to thank them for their hospitality, because it really feels like you're a guest at a really cool party. It's definitely worth the money!More
