We had the pleasure to dine at Café Gannet Restaurant during our nine night’s stay at The Protea hotel in Mosselbay. The restaurant boasted an elegant and sophisticated ambience with indoor and outdoor (covered) seating areas. The menu boasted a wide variety of mouth watering...dishes and was reasonably priced in comparison to the exceptional quality of our meals. The wine list was also extensive and boasted a variety of excellent wines. We had a bottle of Boplaas sauvignon Blanc which we thoroughly enjoyed. As a party of four on our first lunch at Café Gannet we respectively had the Panco prawns, Calamari starter, Snail cigars, Chicken kebab, battered Hake, Tuna steak and the 4x4 sushi. Each dish was bursting with delicate flavours and the marriage of flavours were a match made in heaven. Each dish was beautifully plated. The service from Abigail, our waitress was very friendly and professional with a great sense of humour. We had Cocktails at the Blue Oyster Bar on four more occasions and enjoyed Focaccia, a Burger, Salmon sashimi, Red dragon roll, 4x4 Sushi, grilled Chicken salad, lite Hake and lemon cheesecake. Each dish was exquisite. The Chefs talent and passion to create extraordinary food were evident in every dish we had. Compliments to the Chef!More

Kingklip wrapped in salmon was overcooked. Rib eye steak was medium well and not medium rare. The mushroom sauce was bland and more a white sauce then a mushroom sauce. The only positive was we had a nice waiter.

Cafè Gannet is a lifelong favorite of mine. They make the best Sushi - don't visit without having a Red Dragon Roll. Cafè Gannet also has an amazing Coctail bar and an extensive Wine List. It is really the Diamond of Mossel Bay in terms...of Food, Location and Service.More

This restaurant is highly overrated. We have been visiting for years but I think it’s popularity for its location has gone to its head. A nice sushi menu but then we are told they have no salmon. Italian pizza said Parma ham but instead had...cubes of ham like a Regina and the base was soggy too. Also not wood fired oven which made the base rather greasy. Pretty tasteless. R37 per oyster which they call medium size. Not according to other places. The food is not bad but not great either and way overpriced for this standard. It’s a place to be seen. It not to be enjoyed at the prices you pay. Rather try the less commercial and touristy restaurants. Sorry. We wont be returning again even though we have moved here now. Also won’t be bringing any of our guests. The service is excellent but does not make up for the lack of flavour, price and ingredients.More

Thank you for your comments with regards to your experience at the Café Gannet. We sincerely apologize for the non availability of Salmon and Parma Ham during the peak season. We did sell out on a few occasions. Salmon is a specialised item and gets...More

We had such a delicious dinner but best to book before because we had to wait an hr from 6 to get a seating as it's festive season, but we had cocktails at the bar, the mussels and sauces/ rice with the vegetables is all...really worth it. They were extremely accommodating even with how I like my tea and so friendly and professional. My partner was raving about the food the next day still. We will be back. Thank you for the best food experience in all of our 3 day wilderness/Knysna trip.More
