This used to be a family favourite when visiting beautiful Mosselbay. Food now really below average. Fried hake was just about OK. Calamari chewy. Chips oily. Rice was bland. Greek salad is the worst ever. Wine by the glass is a poor quality boxed wine....Very disappointing to say the least. There are other restaurants in the same area that offer so much better quality food.More

We were looking forward to a seafood platter but was very disappointed with the Gypsy Platter. The mussels were powdery and the shrimps was also not fresh. I spat mine out. Will not recommended this restaurant for seafood.

We recently had the opportunity to dine at your restaurant and unfortunately, we must say that our experience was not a positive one. The food we ordered, specifically the Linefish (Dorado) for R150 with an additional salad for R25, was not worth the price we...paid. The fish was dry and lacked flavor, and the salad was not enjoyable at all. It was disappointing to have such a lackluster meal, especially as this was our first visit to your restaurant. Regrettably, we cannot recommend it to others. The only highlight of our dining experience was the view, which was beautiful. However, the quality of the food did not match up to the prices charged. We hope you take this feedback constructively and use it to improve the dining experience for future customers.More

With the sun nearly down, we headed to the Quay and had a super view by the window overlooking the Bay. Good start. Despite being a Wednesday, there was a vibe around the SGC which should be bottled. Unpretentious surroundings, black felt tip autographs adorning...every surface, excellent service and a choice of fish and meat at sensible prices, great value. Big boy here opted for a creamy muscle starter which was excellent, swiftly moving onto a fish basket of calamari, chips and battered hake. To top off, sorry I've forgot the name, begins with M but is very similar to Sticky Toffee Pudding back in the UK. Yum yum. All washed down with a double G and T and bottle of local Sav. Brilliant. Definitely had the best time with great food and drinks. The waiter Zathan made so much effort to assure we enjoy the time there.

Quick sea food spot. Draught beer, greasy food (in a good way) Value for money. Great service from our waiter and a walk away from our hotel.

We called in here for breakfast this morning and were very happy with the experience. Great value and quite substantial - tasty too. My only small criticism of the place is that they only have filter coffee available. Otherwise it’s great for a budget experience.

We were a group of 9 excited for our first dinner night out much to our dismay we were so dissapointed with the food, Please work on improving your snails in garlic sauce, mussels in creamy sauce...really bad!!

Our family has been coming to Mossel Bay for the last 25 years and the Sea Gypsy has always been our first choice of restaurants. This is the second (and last) time that we have been really saddened by the reduction in quality of the...food. The chips were frozen and not properly cooked, the calamari was awful. The hake was beyond bad and inedible. My daughter had a Greek salad and believe it or not that was inedible. My grandkids had the Hunters Basket and they wouldn’t eat the wors or the beef strips. No management in sight to complain to and no one asked what the problem was when they got the plates back full of food. All in all the Sea Gypsy is to be avoided until they improve the quality of the food.More

Our favourite restaurant in Mossel Bay! We've been regular diners for many years and have never has a disappointing time. The staff are friendly and the meals delicious. Love it!

The view is lovely, and a nice casual atmosphere. Although my companions enjoyed their hake, calamari, and chips, I was extremely disappointed as I ordered hake espetada. My understanding of an espetada is solid pieces of protein on a skewer, with basting and seasoning. I...wish I'd taken a photo as it's difficult to describe, it appeared to be bundles of hake offcuts, mainly skin and some gooey bits, and coated in thick batter and deep fried, I dug out a few bits of decent hake and left the rest. It really was one of the worst dishes I've ever been served. I seldom give reviews, especially negative ones, but I wish I had been warned.More
