This was a well-cooked meal frequently interrupted by having to get up to manage (and locate) staff on really basic service issues. The manager was unapologetic and unaware of what was going on in his restaurant - apparently involved with another issue for over an...hour and a half while we waited for service. We were a party of 10 with an apparently new waiter. Soup for starters was delivered without spoons - as host for the party I had to go looking for spoons from the kitchen staff after a 10 minute wait. Mains were delivered minus one dish, and with one medium rare steak delivered as well done. Again we had to get up to locate our waiter to point out the omissions - the claimed problem at this point was that someone else had taken our food (no explanation for why no one had told us). After a 1/2h wait while the rest of the table ate I headed over to locate the manager Jayden - he was firstly unaware of the issue, and then returned with the contrasting explanation that our original orders had not been placed. Our last 2 dishes arrived about an hour after the first set of mains had been served. The restaurant did take 2 dishes off the bill as compensation, but still no apology - personally I'd value the apology more. No explanation on the missing dishes until we asked, at which point they explained that they were removed as a recognition that things had not gone well. For a restaurant that aspires to the reputation ond pricing of de Camdeboo the manager needs to be present and aware of what is going on, and the waiter needs to be able to communicate to the table on progress of the orders. Service is probably fine for a small party, but the larger table was altogether too much for them.More

We had a wonderful dinner. Definitely unmatched in the area for what it offers. Great food made well and excellent service to boot. Would recommend for anyone looking for a “fancy” dinner in the area.

Went to restaurant in January 2024. It was brilliant. The hotel was fully booked but they allowed us to have a drink and supper on the patio. The staff were brilliant and the food as good. Presentation impeccable and the food delicious. I would like...to thank Mynhard who looked after us. Well done allMore

Up market restaurant in the Drostdy Hotel. Menu specialising in Karoo dishes, well presented and tasty. Good Wine list featuring many wines from the Anton Rupert stable. Friendly and efficient service.

First thing to note - there are two listings for this restaurant - one under Drostdy and one under Camdeboo (which is the name of the restaurant at the Drostdy hotel). There were other options that we wanted to try but a lot of places...in Graaf-Reinet are closed on Sundays despite the fact that the town is a pass through for people on their way to or from the Cape. We ended up having a really pleasant experience. The hotel is old and historic and feels like stepping back in time. The staff were kind and welcoming. We ate outside in the lovely garden courtyard which felt so serene even though it is in the middle of town. My husband and I enjoyed exploring the property and looking at the old photos. The staff were also kind enough to open the small art gallery for us so that we could have a look around. We enjoyed our food (I had a vegetarian pizza) but it wasn't overly memorable. All things considered, this is a lovely spot to stop and stretch your legs and fill your stomach.More

De Camdeboo restaurant is beautifully decorated, inspired by the Karoo. I recently visited for lunch, tea & cake and then also for a baby shower. On two occasions, I enjoyed a tasty toastie with ham & cheese – which was a feast! On the third...occasion a group of us enjoyed cake & tea in the afternoon. Service was friendly, professional and attentive. The toilets were impeccable with fragrant hand soap and hand lotion. I loved the attention to detail. Ideal for coffee, drinks, lunch or snacks in a beautiful environment.More

A good variety of food options but unfortunately a hit and miss on the delivery of the food. Starters : Mint and Pea soup (very good), chicken liver pate ( very good but could come with additional Melba toast), seared duck breast ( good combination...of flavours with cranberry and citrus but the actual duck was bland) Mains : Venison loin (very good), lamb pie ( very tasty), lamb chops (very good) but the oxtail was not great as the sauce had a sour taste which is unusual. Dessert : Panna cotta was delicious with great fusion of flavours, dark chocolate fudge was good. Waiters were friendly but appeared inexperienced for this type of establishment. The real disappointment was the length of time it took to get our food - other tables were served long before our table and cold cappuccino and Luke warm coffee. We have dined here before and had a brilliant experience. Sadly, it did not live up to expectation and was a bit of let down.More

Upon hearing all the rave reviews I was very excited to have dinner at the restaurant on our anniversary weekend trip. Much to my dismay the food was nothing to write home about. It was extremely underwhelming for the cost!

Dinner and breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented by efficient, friendly staff. We had the pork loin which was juicy and full of flavor - as was the smoked pumpkin on the side. The bean soup was also deeply flavorful with a fresh roosterkoek to...mop it up with. Desserts of cheesecake and super rich chocolate brownies rounded of a memorable meal.More

We had the most wonderful dinner outside on a warm evening. The staff were excellent - Friendly and attentive. The food, although expensive, was sublime. Kids really enjoyed theirs too. From our experience this little gem in the middle of the Karoo could give some...of the famous city restaurants a run for their money! A most enjoyable evening.More

The venue and setting is so lovely. However the food was a great disappointment. We had breakfast their. I order the flap jacks which were dense, hard and lacked flavor. My partner order the egg white wrap, they got his order wrong which resulted in...me finishing my breakfast before his arrived. His breakfast also lacked flavor and was not the greatest. We were sadly very disappointed as we read great reviews, especially on the food. We also did not have enough cutlery on our table and had to get some off a near by table. Going forward this will not be our 1st choice in restaurant unfortunately.More

Passing through on a business trip. We were bowled over by the quality and the tastiness of the food. My husband had the squid starters and Lamb mains rich and tasty. I had the beetroot falafels on a cashew cream for starters and then the...stuffed aubergine. It was so increadibly delicious with each item on the plate adding a beautiful complimentary taste. And the dessert - every mouthful was heaven. Coudos to the chef! The setting was comfortable and staff friendlyMore
