We source most of our produce from within a 50 km radius of the beautiful town of Stellenbosch and work closely with our local suppliers to find the best local, and freshest seasonal produce. Good Sunday Buffet.

Eight of us enjoyed lunch here today. We all opted for the buffet and no one was disappointed. Salads, curries, chicken, lamb, and vegetables. As many trips to the table as we desired. This was followed by apple pie, jelly, and delicious malva pudding with a large jug of custard if wanted. We were assisted by a very cheerful, charming Mbu (see photo) who was excellent with both his work and his people skills. He deserves any promotion that might come his way. The only sour note was the wine list which was way overpriced. Not everyone is a tourist with Euro or sterling and in an area like Stellenbosch where wine is plentiful there should be a much lower priced option available. We are glad we brought our own bottles and paid the R50 a bottle corkage.

Brilliant experience of service and food

Me and my lady wanted to have a champagne breakfast, but we arrived too late for breakfast, so we had a champagne lunch. Our waiter was friendly and accommodating from the start and he and the managers went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. This was extra special due to a recent unpleasant experience we had at another place where we experienced the exact opposite. The food was excellent, especially the risotto. But the gnocchi starter, my lady's tempura battered hake and the dark chocolate fondant dessert were all delicious as well and each item was well worth the expense. Definitely going again and would recommend Stellenbosch Kitchen to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in the winelands.

This was a great choice for our dinner here in Stellenbosch, lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere and great food. Our hostess Tuli was so lovely and my only complaint is that she talked me into an amazing dessert that I really couldn’t fit in 😂 Fabulous food and and location and very reasonably priced. Will visit again for sure!

Having read the reviews of this place, we presumed we’d be in for a lovely meal. How wrong we were! We can’t quite believe all the good reviews, because this was truly the worst meal we’ve had in SA. After a 50 min wait for food, we chased our order - to be told the kitchen was struggling with the quantity of orders. The restaurant is huge, so obviously the kitchen need me more help. We finally received our order, to be honest, we should’ve listen to our instinct and left the place when we had the chance. We ordered the fish dish and a burger. The sauce with the fish was meant to be Chardonnay, what came was a scrambled (curdled) mush that literally didn’t move when I held the plate up. The burger bun was stale and the chips soggy, completely undercooked / old. We refused to pay for the fish, but they didn’t even try to compensate for the burger. The waitress was lovely and she as trying her best to help us, when we asked if the manager would like to speak to us - it was clear he didn’t and this wouldn’t be an option. As a manager, to let your staff deal with the wrath of bad management is cowardly and a sign of why the restaurant is so bad. We 100% would not recommend this place to anyone, and to compete with the amazing food in SA it really needs to up its game, starting with management.

Worst experience in 5 years

Been there more than 7 times, with various friends in the past and recently. Have recommended them often. Been there in January with the opening of the university with a group of ladies, been there after an evening at the Endler. Each time was just perfect, but last night's experience will leave a bad taste for quite a while. The wine we ordered, a bottle of Niel Ellis was just perfect. The vegetables was just perfect, but the chef csn apparently not prepare your meet as preferred either well done or medium. And the special was mentioned at a certain price by one waiter, and then she dissapeared and another waiter mentioned it at a different price. Only R20 difference which is not the issue, but the mannerism in which this was addressed. And then the awesome lamp chops which happens to be a favourite of mine could not be enjoyed fully as I cannot stomach redness...we entered at 6h30 and had service up to 8h00. Then after that NO SERVICE at all until we eventually walked up to the cashier at 9h30 and suggested that we are sure they would want to receive payment. Recommended many times over the last 15 years, but now I think stay clear...they are perfectly situated, but for a good experience rather choose one of the many other excellent options in the region.

Very dissatisfied

After all the positive reviews I've seen on here we went to Stellenbosch Kitchen in Saturday and we're very dissatisfied with the fact that every meal was bad. My mother ordered the seafood pizza and even though we were told that it would take some time to get the pizza done, the toppings were cold. Like it had just came out of the fridge. We also ordered three monster burgers and they all came with stale rolls and patties. The FOH manager on duty offered a new, fresh roll and said that this was really all he could do because the chef is hiding in the kitchen. I mean, the service was good, but how do you mess up a burger? Rolls that's been frozen for who knows how long and the patty was really dry and tasteless... We didn't like it at all...

We had a very good dinner in Stellenbosch Kombuis restaurant. The restaurant is situated in an old Cape Dutch style house.You can sit outside or inside.The food is very good and the atmosphere very 'gezellig' and our waitress Thuli was very friendly and professional. Definately recommend this restaurant!

A Thursday evening to remember...

I would definitely recommend the pork belly, the portion size was balanced and the dish was presented beautifully. The butterscotch cheesecake with honeycomb was a very tasty dish and is great for sharing. The vibe in the restaurant itself is very unique and makes you feel at home as soon as jou walk in. The service was excellent and Thuli looked after us very well. Overall a great night in a fabulous restaurant.

Very good food, great wines and the most heartwarming service. As our waitress Thuli heard that it was my birthday, she arranged a special dessert, a springbok drink and even got her colleagues to sing for me. A night I will remember and cherish for a long time. Thank you!

Great food and service

stellenbosch has plenty of restaurants and at a time when the students are out playing its hard to get into any place. We managed to get into the Stellenbosch kitchen and were not disappointed. The drinks came quick and were cold...we opted for the lambshank and a plentiful and taste meal arrived.. delicious...looking around what others had ordered, the sirloin looked just as good..an excellent meal and very competitively priced. Thumbs up from Big Bay Tours . We shall be back...and the service was excellent

At first we struggled to make a selection from the mouth-watering menu but Thuli (server extraordinaire) made two fantastic recommendations: the monster burger and lamb curry. Not only were they super tasty but we left full and eager to try more on a future visit. The wine was also excellent, and Thuli provided us with a thorough explanation of the difference between two popular grape varieties from the Western Cape.. 😁

We had 2 fantastic meals at Stellenbosch kitchen. Our first experience(just arrived 30 minutes ago in STELLENBOSCH) was a perfect lunch, sitting in the shadow, having great food and Chenin Blanc with Pearl our waitress. 2 Days later we came back for having a dinner and decided by the great choice of restaurants to go back to STELLENBOSCH Kitchen. And we didn’t regret it! The Calamari Tubes are great and we also recommend the pasta linguine with prawns! Our waiter Mbuyiseli, made the dinner perfect! He was really attentive and friendly!!! The best waiter in the Restaurant 🙏 especially after asking for the recipe for the pasta, he brings us to the cooking chief Mandy. She gave us some ideas for cooking the 2 meals at home, very friendly and patient. Stellenbosch Kitchen is a nice Place, with kindly people and an excellent kitchen!

Good food but a long wait for it to arrive

Ideally placed on the edge of town, this is a well presented and usually busy restaurant. The food was fine but sadly the service wasn't so. It took a very long time for the meal to arrive - nearly an hour after ordering - and I should mention, there were only two of us so I'm not sure what took the time and the restaurant didn't seem unusually busy that evening. Thankfully, a bottle of wine was good company during the wait but it was still a shame about the service.

A fitting venue to celebrate

Superb service - generous portions of simple yet delicious food enjoyed with a few glasses of red wine all of which are extremely well priced. Worth visiting for all occasions. The music that was inaudible for most of the evening was the only disappointment as this could have added to the atmosphere that certainly could have been more viby on busy Friday night. Highly recommended though!

Best Dinner in Stellenbosch

Thank you so much for the most wonderful meals and great hosting, we truly felt at home. We are definitely coming through next time we are in town. A special shout out to the chefs, the Lamb Shank with pumpkin took us to a great memory of fresh and creamy pumpkin that’s hand picked from the garden. The chocolate fondant dessert left my niece licking her bowl. Josh, you have a wonderful team Zizo and Thuli keep up the great work. It really goes a long way. Regards, The Gumede Family
