The weather was great and we decided to venture out. Spear was selected because of its extended and well maintained premises and gardens. We had not been there for a number of years and remembered and enjoyed the deli very much. To find it gone...was a disappointment as we enjoyed being seated on the deck overlooking the dam. All that is in its place is a huge wine tasting venue and no food. We were redirected to the farm kitchen which is a misnomer as there is no hot food available, only stuff out of fridges. Something warm as a lunch option should have been available, not even hot chips. Eventually we found a boerewors stand. There is another more pricey restaurant on the property, and the grounds are still very lovely, but the old deli experience has gone.More

Turned up on the offchance for early dinner to find that a one man singer was on the lawn which was filled by couples and families enjoying the picnic basket from the restaurant. We were at the Farm restaurant and the welcome, food and service...could not be bettered with music as a bonus. Welcoming lady was brilliant with a great sense of humour.More

During our stay at the Spier estate we had our lunch as a picnic. We took two summer double and a bottle of Chenin Blanc. In the basket there was a Greek salad, roasted cauliflower grain salad with celery, quinoa, brown & basmati rice, curry...pickled carrots, roast beef, chicken drumsticks, cheese, fruit chutney, green fig preserve and crackers as well as bread and butter. All dishes are excellent and the wine is of top quality. On the property, the picnic can be consumed in beautiful places, also directly on the waterfront. Do not miss it!More

Just 25 minutes from the airport the Farm Cafe was a great cjoice for a final lunch. A juicy burger and a steak and red wine pie with golden, crisp pastry was accompanied by a bottle of the estate's excellent, soft Pinotage . At 76...Rand ( £4) the temptation is to crack open anothr bottle but a plane was waiting.More

We popped in for lunch when travelling between Franshhoek and Hout Bay. You can dine inside or outside on their patio and enjoy views of the gardens. The menu is relatively small but plenty of sandwiches to choose from and thats what we went for...along with a bottle of their Sauvignon Blanc. An enjoyable lunch.More

I was there for the art, but then it was lunch time and everyone was hungry. The fabulous examples mosaics outside as well as the creative block paintings on exhibit in the Smokehouse restaurant next to the bakery was a feast to the eye. I...invited my fellow travellers for lunch to be able to stay longer to view the work on display. Lunch was superb just a wee bit pricey. The bill was well over R1000 for four people. We each had a soft drink of our own choice and then we had two plates of tapas for two. I also bought some dessert to take away next door at the Bakery which was divine!More

On Saturday 16 August, me and my family decided to go have some Breakfast at the restaurant. All 16 of us arrived there without any booking. The maitre'd advised us that they are full but will quickly see if they can make a plan for...us, which they gladly did. We had a wonderful breakfast, best muesli EVER!! Friendly staff and extremely helpful even though we inconvenience them. Thank you to the manager and staff for taking so well care of us.More
