We stopped here for a quick breakfast as we were leaving Stellenbosch for CT and it was tasty, well-priced with delicious homemade iced-tea and good service. There were kiddies options as well, which always makes traveling with a child easier. The shop has some nice goodies, and I always enjoy browsing the butchery/bakery area. COVID protocols were also observed and there are loads of outdoor tables, which is the way to go in these times.

After a missable experience at lunch at Val du Charon we arrived at Joostenberg Bistro for a coffee, cake a cheer up. What a wonderful idea. We walked thro this wonderful butchery/deli and then were ushered into a stone floored cafe with wooden tables and chairs. Beautifully laid out gardens and views ....so relaxing. Brilliant service, beautifully clean and the pastries and desserts were fresh and deliciously stunning..,,,,,,we definitely will come back here for lunch . All of us bought meat, spices, bread, veg and coconut pudding to take home Yum Recommend a visit.......you will go back😄

Hi I invited friends over to the bistro based on a previous visit which was great. But today the food was a letdown. Especially the omelette served with mushrooms, baby spinach and cheese shavings. It was tasteless. The omelette looked like a piece of French toast - no fluffiness there! It was rubbery and tasteless. The mushrooms were… tasteless. It was a mission to cut off all the stems of the baby spinach leaves. I was disappointed. The service was good and everybody was friendly but I will think twice before I go there again for breakfast. It is a pity. Elmari

Extremely disappointing and overpriced. What a pitty. I have been visiting the bistro over the past few years and have been noticing the slow deterioration. Today we had a dry, bland hamburger and a cheese platter which vertualy consisted of 6 small bites of cheese for the price of R130. The worst of all are the waitrons who have the most miserable impressions, they are not attentive and clearly do not want to be at the place. Even the pretty surroundings do not justify another visit

I have been here numerous times. The one time we even celebrated my son’s birthday with family and friends. I was looking forward to visiting again. The setting is beautiful. Service was a bit on the Luke warm side. We were in the mood for meat so we all ordered the rump. Salad was delicious, chips were Okay and the highlight that was supposed to be the rump was a total disappointment. We asked for medium rare and we got closer to well done, dry and extremely tough. I struggled to cut through with my knife. My daughter loves meat and she took one bite and left the rest. Will not be coming back too quickly. If we do we will rather buy a picnic at the deli and sit on the grounds.

Having now gone to this venue many times over the months, it's time to advise that one should go for a meal here when you’re at your most patient, not hungry and definitely not on a timeline. Though the food has always been incredible on each and every visit (well done to the Kitchen Team), I find that the one thing this establishment lacks in making it a great venue is the nonexistence of service and management. There is seldom a manager around to seat you, therefore, leaving customers to make their own way to available tables and having to try and catch the attention of serving staff in order to be assisted. When you finally have a waitron approach, the experience is: waiting 30 minutes for two coffee’s, an additional 22 minutes for a cup of tea, making it already close to 1-hour before you're able to place your meal order. The meals take about 30 minutes to arrive, which is very acceptable considering the quality that is presented from the kitchen. However, no waitron or management comes to the table to do the necessary approval check with customers – so, if you should require anything additional with your meal, we suggest you ask the staff on arrival of your meals. The management seems to be new during this last visit (August 2024), as they looked more uncertain about the running of the restaurant and mainly stood in the corner hiding from responsibility. Again – the food is really worth the visit, however, this establishment definitely need to “up their game” when it comes to the multitude of Waitrons they have that just don’t seem to do their job at the standard you would expect.

We have booked a group for lunch at the Bistro. They made a mess with the orders and the food was absolutely terrible. Burgers were left as really not good and chicken pieces in one of their dishes were not eatable. Tried to get a feedback from the managment, but everything was denied and no apology was done. You need to do better !

I called up to book and asked if there was a spot that I and my elderly father could play scrabble after lunch. They said we could have a corner table and could stay as long as we needed. On arrival I was greeted by name before I could say a word, even though it was busy. The team member deduced from my bag that we were the scrabble players! We had delicious meal and relaxed afternoon with friendly service. Good value too, especially compared with some of the other places in the region. Will return.

We visited for Saturday lunch. The bistro was very busy, so unfortunately there was no opportunity to sit outside on the verandah. The menu was imaginative, with many items from which to choose. Service was prompt and very obliging, and the food was good and tasty.

My Daughter brought me here for breakfast - what a wonderful experience. We decided on French Toast & Croque Monsieur, which I had and can say it tasted delicious. We also shared the Pastry Plate. Everything about this Bistro was superb, toilets were very clean, and the staff were very friendly - special mention to Nyasha who waited on us with a most friendly smile-Nkosi Nyasha. You epitomise everything good about Joostenberg.

Visited on a Sunday lunchtime on the way from Franschhoek to Cape Town. We hadn't booked a reservation and the restaurant was reasonably busy. We sat outside under the veranda. The menu is varied and the portion sizes good. I had the joostenburg burger and my partner the open omelette. We both enjoyed our meals. They also brought out a bread basket with butter, which was very nice. If you are with children they can play in the playground and out on the lawns which seem to be part of the picnic area but are right in front of the bistro. Service was good. Overall, a great experience.

Andries, our waiter was a huge highlight of our visit! He is a gem. Starters were delicious! Chicken liver parfait and smoke trout crepes. Our mains were the curry (best roti...wow) and the fillet. We were enjoying our food so much, hence no pics of the mains :) Lovely setting and great food! Would love to try their other menu as this was a Mothers Day set menu. I'm sure that will be just as delicious!

Sort of stumbled on this Bistro needing a late lunch on Saturday. Helpful staff confirmed kitchen open till 4pm so we had enough time after 2. Pleasant surprise when we got there, every dish we had was really good, the house Shiraz excellent, with great service despite Covid-rules. The Springbok shanks were really good! Had to ask more bread to wipe the plate clean! So our ultimate complement, we'll go out of our way and drive here for a meal. Oh and make time to shop at the deli/butchery next door!

Excellent food. Excellent service. Manager is attentive and involved with patrons. Beautiful nurseries and gardens to visit. Amazing desserts - my mother loved every bite. I enjoy this venue - very calming. Good for the sole. A nice halfway meeting spot to meet friends who live on the outskirts of Northern suburbs and SBosch.
