Val De Vine Breakfast Review

We had the pleasure of staying at Val de Vine for 3 nights and we had breakfast every morning in the restaurant. The food was delicious and the waiter, named Listen, was very accommodating, especially to those who had special dietary requirements. Listen was warm and welcoming and he is an asset to the restaurant. Thank you for your hospitality!

Being guest at Val de Vine guesthouse we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy Val de Vine restaurant and bar. The first day of our stay we chose to chill by the pool after breakfast, had some beverages by the oak bar where live music was playing and enjoyed lunch there. All of those services were equally satisfying, so our stay was already up for a good start. Throughout the week we got to try more of the menu and we must say head chef K. is not only one of the kindest and funniest people we ever met, he is also an exquisit chef. We can definitely recommend the crispy chicken stir fry and the beef carpaccio with chips, but even if you go for any other option, the pasta carbonara for example, you will find that the flavors are just right and delicious. We met some of South-Africa's nicest staff members during our stay. Bartenders P. C. and J. will whip just about any drink you can dream of up from after de lovely oak tree bar counter and entertain you with interesting stories or a fun chat if you please. Managers J. and G. make sure everything served in the restaurant and bar is high quality and have selected the finest tequila and brandy to make sure every drink is top noch. They truly are the best MC's anyone could imagine. Ask them for the latest addition to the cocktail menu 'the final round'. We can 10 out of 10 recommend that one! While we were staying at Val de Vine, we got absolutely spoiled by every single staff member there and would like to offer an extra thanks to all of the staff members there. We have never felt more welcome and Val the Vine truly became a home away from home because of you guys. If we are ever lucky enough to find our way back to Stellenbosch without our travel guide, we will absolutely choose Val de Vine again. Loved it! Klaas & Ellen (The Belgian MC's)

Not just another wine farm!

I took the family out for a nice chilled evening. Was quite unprepared for this though. I thought Va De Vine might just be another wine farm restaurant but the food was simply outstanding. The Pork Bau was delicious and amongst the best meals my (french) wife said she ever had. The burgers too must have been one of the largest and tastiest best I ever had. Just divine .......in a relaxed outdoor setting under the trees at reasonable prices. Very very good indeed and we will definately go back.

Poor, poor service - restaurant section

Just returned from having breakfast on this beautiful Sunday morning...but spoilt by really poor service at restaurant. What a mission to have 3 refills of coffee with 2 additional breakfasts/coffees for couple who joined late...had to inquire SEVERAL times about getting our coffees (by this time we've had our breakfast), and also physically going inside to inquire. Eggs benedicts were cold; very salty frittata con gunghi. Other visitors also not happy; witnessed from table next to us having to fetch their own cutlery and serviettes ( we also received our breakfasts without cutlery - to he fair: we did change tables to accommodate the extra couple who joined). Seemed like place is understaffed, not well-trained and waiters are overwhelmed. Not necessarily the waiters' fault but rather how the restaurant is managed. A real pity!

Terrible experience

We arrived while a function was on and we was told by numerous people they would be finished by 7pm. So we went out for supper, came back at 9.30pm and it was still going and very loud!! The next evening there was music playing at the bar and after 10pm I asked the guys to please switch it off but still carried on. The guys at breakfast also weren’t very helpful - very limited and when we asked for like extra toast, they told us that would be charged as extra breakfast. If you want a peaceful time away, avoid Val De Vine!!

Given wrong room, were promised a refund that never came

The accommodation is clean and staff friendly. Pool area and bar is clean. Food is hit and miss. Service can take forever in the restaurant but everyone is pleasant and it is not intentional. However, we were promised a refund after they messed up our rooms and this was never paid so we are now over 2000 RAND out of pocket. We originally booked two rooms to attend a wedding back in November. Some of our party could no longer make it so I contacted the hotel a couple months before our trip to cancel one of our rooms (within the free cancellation period). I was told to cancel it on booking.com so I cancelled the cheaper room and kept the more expensive room on the booking as a treat. Fast forward a couple months to us arriving. They messed up our arrival and put us in the cheaper room and promised we would be refunded the difference as I had paid for the more expensive room. The reception staff also kept confusing us with another group of visitors which we kept explaining had nothing to do with us. It just seemed like a disorganised place. While we were there one of the staff helped with our laundry so we tipped both the staff member directly (as advised to by the front desk), and we left a cash tip with reception when we checked out for all remaining staff. Like I said service was slow but staff were trying their best Now, when we checked out and I reminded Kim about the room mix up and the agreement to be refunded, she was also very shocked at how much we had been overcharged for the whole booking, and she promised to refund us a large chunk. I followed up via email and after being persistent we agreed that val de vine would refund us >2000 RAND to cover the overcharge, and the fact they had put us in the cheaper room but charged us for the more expensive one. I was promised in writing in early December that the payment would be made back to my credit card. When I reminded Kim that we had been v generous in tipping staff directly and also leaving a generous tip with her when we checked out she claimed to not remember that, which was disappointing. Things were disorganised but we gave them the benefit of the doubt. It is now February, nearly 3 months since our trip when we agreed verbally to the refund, and over 2 months since Kim confirmed via email to processing our refund. I have since chased many times but heard nothing back. I am very disappointed and felt the need to leave this review to let other guests know about our experience

NEVER GO TO VAL DE VINE IN STELLENBOSCH FOR A MEAL

We had our annual Xmas function on Thursday 14.12.2023 - it was a huge disappointment - not worth the money we paid. The food was bland, totally overpriced and the chips took over the plate and tasted as if they had been a week old and warmed up. The atmosphere and setting were good but this did not make up for the slow and slack service and totally unappetizing food. Starters came at 19h45 and they too, were overpriced and not very well presented. Main course we got at 21h00 and we were told to order our dessert as the kitchen was closing. Most of us wanted the cheesecake only to be told there was none left. This is a beautiful venue but they obviously are in dire need of a good chef who can prepare and cook good food.

Val De Vine - Little treasure in the Western Cape

This is a magnificent venue to stay at and to eat. Rooms are carefully decorated quality linen, coffee station, and even little solar lights in case there is loadshedding. Great menu options available, but please also ask for the daily specials. We had an amazing fish dish. Host came round to all the table to check on guests which is a lovely touch.

A memorable stay.

We have enjoyed our stay at this venue . Breakfast hasn't many options but still what was proposed was good. The restaurant very clean and so was our room. The bar and the open air restaurant are very nice too. A special thanks to Tobias who waited for us to reach on the first day and even organised some ice for us even though it was quite late at night. Special thank you to the barman too, as even though it was closed, he still managed to get us a beer. The employees of the restaurant were quite knowledgeable on the food that were proposed. We had a good stay indeed and shall surely be back.

We were a large group of family and friends staying for two nights for a wedding which was held just down the road at Forest 44. Distance from Val de Vine was very covenient. We stayed in a standard double room but found this accommodation cramped. The bathroom units are old and bath is stained. Shower was okay. Tiny dressing table too close to cupboards so the drawer couldn't open. (ancient woodwork). The mini kettle and coffee and sugar sachets, cups, complimentary water (warm, no mini fridge) were stationed on the small dressing table so it wasn't possible to do hair a makeup there. I had to do my makeup in the bathroom over the little basin. Lighting was better there anyway. We had cobwebs hanging from the corners of the ceiling. I accidentally dropped a piece of jewellery and moved the single beds (which were together as a "double"), to look for it and found thick balls of dust underneath. Clearly this room wasn't cleaned for a while!!! Breakfast was good quality. Not a huge variety, very few options. Excellent percolated coffee. Pool area and garden and rest of the location outdoors is stunning. We've stayed at four and five star accommodation previously and I feel that pleasant, helpful staff and good food isn't sufficient to rate this four star.

Stunning decor and sumptuous food.

What an unexpected delight on a Cape winters day. A warm, welcoming vibe was as appreciated as was the delicious food. We felt as though we were fine dinning with gorgeously presented cuisine and well fed by the generous portions. Compliments to the chefs, the waiters, the hosts and musician. What a perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Workshop at Val de Vine

The staff at Val de Vine was absolute amazing and the venue is absolutely stunning!!! Apart from the no-TV in the rooms, everything was really great. I did not really miss the TV because I rarely watch TV, but other members of the group complained and about the cold aircons in the room, but the latter was sorted out by the helpful staff. We still waited for our funds to go through and were stressing but the management at Val de Vine really made us feel at ease. Will definately go back there - the winter storms outside had no impact on us as we enjoyed the warm fire places. Overall lovely experience.

We used Val De Vine for the weekend of our wedding. It is a quant and lovely place to be with family and friends before and after the big day. The rooms are cosy, the food and beverages great despite our Sunday morning order being manically prepared, but the service is outstanding with the team going above and beyond to ensure comfort.

A hidden gem on the way to the heart of Stellenbosch. Great place to have drinks, but also fantastic food and the pizza was incredible. My night here was very welcoming and great service. The view was amazing and the vibe was super friendly. Casper is the most friendly and funny bartender I have ever met, for sure coming back to enjoy myself like I did the first time.

Solo visit for two weeks

I stayed at the fountain view room for two weeks. I ate a lovely complementary breakfast at the restaurant every morning. 4 options of meals and the traditional breakfast i choose was hearty and tasty! I had three friends stay for a few days during my 2 weeks and they enjoyed the breakfasts too! Then i brought family for world class dinners like the catch of the day and the steak. Highly recommended.
