Went there for an anniversary and expected more. Booked via Dineplan and the pics looked amazing. Service was rushed/almost morbid, menu was weird ( I couldn’t order just a standard steak which was weird ). The wine menu was slightly overpriced and there was no...atmosphere. All I could hear was the buzz of the fridge based in the restaurant servicing the in house shop. Food wasn’t great and the vibe was just strange.More

Thank you for your review. These are indeed weird times. Covid restrictions have forced us to change what we do. As we are limited to the amount of people we may have in the building, we had to make changes to what we are able...More

Place feels like an eating hall bright lights and no ambience. Menu very limited. Heard alot about this venue but found it mediocre at best. Would go there in a hurry. Service was brilliant though!

We booked a table for supper on Friday the 13th. We could only choose from the Winter menu and opted for the R210 option for 2 courses. We weren’t told that the main portions were only 100 gm. One of their famous dishes through many...years is the Hollandse Biefstuk which I opted for. I was therefore very suprised when it arrived - a small, thin 100gm piece served with sone chips. No flambé at at the table as they used to do and which wad part of the experience. I canceled my dessert and ooted for 2 x 100gm pieces. My wife had the pan seared fish and an apple crumble. Tasty but minute portions. The evening was spoilt when the owner, Ken Forrester, arrived prior to our food arriving, walked through to the annex and in full view of us and 2 other tables started shouting at a waitress. This carried on for some time. He eventually left and walked back out through the restaurant - without a mask. I tried to greet him but he just glared us down as he walked past. The waitress left the annex a few minutes later in tears and visibly upset. A largish table arrived a while later and walked straight through to their table in the annex, where they, because of the smoke from the fireplace, opened windows. This caused everyone inside the main area to freeze as it was bitterly cold. The more we tried to close the door (between the annex and main area), the more it was opened and left open by waiters. Overall it was not an evening to remember. Sadly not food wise and the evening spoilt by Ken Forrester’s outburst.More

we were really looking forward to being here again after frequent visits starting in 2003; my favorite food is the Hollandse Beefstuck, which used to be a juicy piece of beef. Unfortunately now you have to choose between 200 or 300g, consisting of two or...three thin 100g pieces. They were medium-rare as ordered, but not as it used to be. Due to covid-19 quite reduced menu, but we will be backMore

96 have revised their menus, they have introduced a "Platters Menu". These are smaller than most main courses but still excellent and very well produced and presented. We have sampled several over our three visits. The venison and today, the Kudu carpaccio dishes are great....Sashimi is back and it's VVG! The new Korean Duck dish is outstanding. Service and the wine is still "top drawer", such a pity overseas visitors are not going to be here to sample these excellent dishes - unless there's an out break of common sense, and restrictions are relaxed.More

I had lunch there yesterday and it was amazing. Together with the excellent service this is Winelands at its best. I had the pepper steak, accompanied by a glass of Ken Forrester Sauvignon Blanc and the Creme Brûlée to end this beautiful meal. Definitely in...the next update of my German/Dutch SA travel books.More

We have been here many times and plan to return. Consistently excellent food and wine. Sophisticated food but honest and delicious and recognisable on your plate. It is a jolly place where you'd feel warmth. On the day we arrived fire was crackling - charming...and lovely, without being fussy.More

This was the first restaurant that we visited after the sit down restriction was lifted. I loved the idea of small plates. We ordered all the plates and everyone took a bite of each. The food was really good. Even the fussy kids enjoyed it....Our favorites were the duck and cherry pie as well as the pork belly. Unfortunately the dessert was a total letdown. The apple crumble was bland. The crime brûlée was runny and way too sweet. I will be back for the food but I will avoid dessert.More
