We booked the Fat Butcher as our final meal in Stellenbosch for my husbands birthday trip and it did not disappoint.... An absolutely fantastic meal with a food and wine menu that makes you want to eat there every night!! So many amazing choices with...a truly innovative menu, excellent tasting food and sizeable portions for the price. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great restaurant in central Stellenbosch.... now we need to start planning our next holiday just so we can return! We started with the Calamari (which is a huge portion and easily shared) and the Beef Cheeks which just melted in the mouth. Our waited then showed us a selection of 'special' steak cuts to add to the standard menu which we selected. The special Sirloin was outstanding... combined with great sauces and possibly the best spinach ever (with dutch feta and sunflower seeds). We managed to share the Coffee brulee for desert and have zero regrets... one of the best deserts EVER!! Just make sure you book - the restaurant is clearly very popular (and for good reason) and you dont want to miss this experience!More

Visited here for lunch as part of a wine tasting tour as it was recommended by our guide. The whole experience was excellent in a very nice setting with attentive waiters. We both had steaks and the quality of the meat and cooking is up...there with the best steak we have tasted anywhere on our international travels. Service, food and pricing all excellent.More

Wish I could give 0 stars! Lady in this establishment is incredibly rude. I assume she’s the manager not sure. Not a great way to get business, Don’t recommend if you’re a tourist as you will be looked down upon.

We were a walk-in at this popular restaurant and we had to sit outside. We were given some blankets but they really didn't help. But we were very keen to be there and it didn't put us off. Tristan, our waiter, talked us through all...the cuts and we settled on a 1.2kg picanha for four of us. It was so delicious and tender. It didn't have a chance to get cold. Luckily a table opened up inside and we got to warm up. We tried meltert which was lovely and also amrula dom pedro, both Tristan's suggestions. We would definitely go again, even if we had to sit outside in the cold!More

Great meat place with excellent choices for vegetarians as well. The food, the vibe and especially the people make it a special place. The overall experience makes you feel to keep going back to the place . Great show guys. Well done

We had a meal in the courtyard with all sorts of debris ending up in our expensive wine. I ordered a fillet with pepper source. The menu said flambé, where this occurred, I don’t know? The pepper sauce was sweet, did you add sugar? Not...to my taste, terrible. Don’t think I will ever be back to this establishment.More

Very huge Steak and Service expirience at Stellenbosch. One of my best steaks i have ever had. Very warm and professional service of the stuff. Our Mate Inocent was very nice and hospital and profesional in explaining the meet and technics!!!! Long story short, one...of our best experiences in terms of Steaks!!!! Highly reccomended!!More

Fabulous restaurant but you need to book. Steak was one of the best I have eaten for ages. Perfectly cooked medium rare. The pork ribs are to die for and do not miss the ,emon posset desert. I have been lucky to find two great...culinary restaurants and both although different are exceptional in all they do. Highly recommended.More
