Traveling around SA for 5 weeks now. Best food we had during our vacation, geat vibe and good service.
we decided on the Tapas menue to share, ut was absolutely Delicious, Pizza also great. will definitly be back. Manager Lady was very attentive and Waiter gave us Awesome Service.
Phew, where to start. Got there just after 12:15pm and ordered sushi. The Sushi Chef though only arrived at 13:00 and started prepping orders randomly. As such some 45 minutes later we cancelled the sushi order. We then ordered the mussel pot (1kg) - this...arrived in a bowl filled with a thick, mezina-thickened “heavy” chicken stock with enough pre-made garlic to render the subtle mussel meat TASTELESS, never mind lose any flavour of white wine, etc. that went into the sauce. Fried mussels - tried this too, but got back over-battered soggy and quite tasteless mussels. We also had fresh Saldana oysters - of 18 we ordered, 2 were off, The extra fries we ordered though, were really good. Overall, what a waste of premium fresh seafood! Maybe the cheap prices should have indicated to us that establishment is not even worthy of “take-out” food status.More
My family and I had the misfortune of attempting to have lunch at The Captain’s Cabin Restaurant & Pub in Saldanha on Boxing Day. It was the most shockingly poor experience I’ve ever had at an eatery. Prior to going there I called and confirmed...they had space to accommodate us. When we got there we were directed to the upper deck. It took about 20 minutes for us to attract the waitrons attention just to get the menus. We ordered drinks (1 Mojito, 2 Pina Colada’s and a glass of water). The waitron then disappeared for about half an hour - still no drinks and had not ordered food. Finally waitron returns but without drinks. We ask her to follow up on drinks and also order food (a garlic focaccia and 2 Captain’s baskets). An hour after our drinks order, still drinks have not arrived. We asked to see the manager. However the manager chose not to engage with us. After almost 90 minutes still no drinks. We again asked to see the manager. Again sorry he manager ignored us. Finally drinks arrived. However the So called Mojito was a tasteless disgrace and was more like cats p@&$ than a cocktail. The Pina Coladas were average. Still no food. When we followed up, the supposed garlic focaccia was tossed at us. It looked distinctly uncooked. And so it proved when we tasted it - it was raw, unflavored (except for mountains of raw garlic) and doughy. We referred the Mojito and the raw focaccia back to the waitron and again asked to see the manager to no avail. At the end the matters had still not been rectified, the Mojito and focaccia had not been replaced and after a futile 2 hours (of my life that I will never get back) we said we would pay for the Pina coladas only. The waitron came back and said that was fine. The manager never came to us to apologize or offer any explanation. Overall a most disgusting experience. I will never be back there a would not recommend this establishment to my worst enemy!More
Yesterday, we took a drive from our holiday beach house in Jacobsbaai to the working port town of Saldanha for lunch, where the usual catch of the day is a full case crammed with crabs. From the moment we arrived at our lunch venue Captain's...Cabin, we were made to feel welcome. We were shown to the table we had booked on the upper level deck which overlooked picturesque Saldanha Bay. Our order of food was for assorted sushi, grilled calamari and a Greek salad. Our ever charming and super-efficient waitress Shannon recommended the double double gin and tonic special at the Red-Sea-pedestrian-super-deal price of R65. My wife mumbled about drunk driving and cops, which I countered with: "they only arrest you here in Saldanha if you drive sober". The sushi was fresh and delicious and, unlike many restaurants that don't specialise in sushi, they got it right by not going man overboard with the volume of rice. The Greek salad was also not drowning in any form of nitrogen bends laden salad dressing which allowed your humble reviewer to squeeze lime and drizzle olive oil over it. The grilled calamari was cooked to perfection. Looking out at the bay, images of Hemingway's big game fishing came to mind; however after this lovely meal I never put my brains to the wall as I still have places to go to and men to see about things that fall under attorney/client privilege. Captain's Cabin delivers like the first hot lady you met at the disco, back in the bygone day of endless carefree summers. More
This has to be best restaurant in Saldanha. It's unpretentious. The service is friendly and the food is great. We had many meals here during our 10 day stay in Saldanha. Sushi, mussels, sea good platter, hake, calamari. The best has to be the deluxe...burger. The beef Patti is amazing. Mushroom sauce is fabulous! A must visit while in Saldanha.More
this is extremely good value fish and chips place . the view of the bay huge ships is good . order the hake and chips its really huge and delicious. waiters are helpful and friendly to . definitely worth driving up there to saldaha Bay.
Been going there for years. First time time with new management. My comments for what they are worth; The Eisbein superb, as good as anywhere in Namibia. The fish cakes, calamari and oyster starters very good as well. The veg, disappointing. The old style west...coast veg, creamed spinach, pumpkin etc were what I came back for. Nothing wrong with the present taste. Just that they were just sauteed bits, no real taste or texture and did not add to the meal. The chicken schnitzel also nowhere near what it was. No visual appeal, sauce not as tasty and the portion smaller. The veg again, a let down. Glad I had the Eisbein. Service as usual, excellent. I have had my own place and know the challenges faced and the efforts to improve as one sees it at the outset. Some traditional things however are what make the venue different and special and those things should endure? My best wishes for a successful run! Saldahna resident.More
Perched upon a hill side overlooking Saldanha harbour this place was a suprise.... Some friends took me there for dinner. Wonderful restaurant, conveniently located overlooking the bay, good food and good prices. Staff is excellent
Pub with a beautiful view over the bay. Bar area, inside and outside seating. Barmen was very friendly and welcoming. We moved from the bar to a table inside the restaurant because the bar area was very smokey and noisy. We were totally ignored by...the restaurant staff and had to ask for service after waiting for 30 minutes. The food eventually arrived and surprisingly it was delicious. Thin bases Pizza with lots of tasty filling and the chicken schnitzel was the best we had in a long time. To sum it up – a local pub with a nice view, terrible service, and great food. Worth a try but do have a plan “B” - you might have to look for service somewhere else.More
This restaurant/pub is the BEST LOCAL PLACE to have something to eat or even pop past for a few drinks. The staff are unbelievable and the food is fantastic. It's the BEST place in Saldanha!!

We ended up in this restaurant by accident. Thought we'll have a quick pub lunch in this pub. What a surprise. Yes it is a pub but that is in the back. In the front is a nice big resaurant. The menu is well stocked...with everything from burgers to fish to Eishbein. Service was fast and the staff very friendly. portions big without being oversized. The food was some of the best food I;ve had in the two weeks we were in the Western Cape. The Eishbein was very good, meat very soft and tasty with a crispy outer layer.More
