When you have loved a restaurant and return you are a little worried if it will be as good. Several years on it is just as good and those stunning views from the dining room make it worth a visit in itself. Dietary considerations we...taken into account even with the amuse bouche that were served alongside fabulous bread and the food - meat, fish and vegetarian - was all beautifully cooked and delicious. Service too was wonderful. A great restaurant.More
The quantity of food was so disappointing that we went straight from this restaurant to a steakhouse in Franschhoek to have a second meal to quench our hunger. This is cordon bleu to the extreme. While the ostrich steak was tasty and of 3 reasonable...chunks, the 3 minute beetroot and two ribbons of miniature carrots were the smallest vegetables we have ever seen. It made us think we were guilty of eating undersized crayfish tails, where the decorative edible leaves were more substantial than the vegetables on the plate.
Because the menu describes these vegetables in some detail, we did not order any side dishes. It was a real pity because the ostrich steaks were done very nicely, and the service and view were excellent. But we go to a restaurant to eat food and that is the main criteria by which we feel satisfied.
We are not averse to cordon bleu servings but please don't give us an extract from a tasting menu and call it a main course!More
Beautiful décor and restrooms. A view to die for. Excellent and friendly service. And the food! I had a rich souffle with Roqueford cheese in a creamed spinach sauce - quite unique. Hubby had ostrich fillet. Both delicious. The food came super quick. And the...chef treated us with a very special amusement to boot. All of this at a reasonable price. A bargain actually. Thanks for a special lunch!More
The impressive main building situated on the hill caught our eye and made us drive up there. We were welcomed with huge smiles, screened for Covid symptoms and seated in the restaurant with its lovely ambience and gorgeous views. Our food was masterly prepared. The...service was professional and friendly - excellent! It was worth every cent.More
After spending a wonderful morning at Babylonstoren we opted to try a different restaurant for lunch for a change.
We made a booking at Glen Carlou based on it being 3 of 99 restaurants on TripAdvisor in Paarl.
What a disappointment!
We were a party...of 4. The food was oily and had little bits of this and that complicating the dish. Nobody finished their meals. One dish was not even touched. The bill was paid and we left.More
