The restaurant re-opened on 22 August 2020 after lockdown and we were probably the first guests that day. The food is excellent as always. The staff are ever friendly and doing their utmost best to adhere to the regulations.

Beautiful décor and restrooms. A view to die for. Excellent and friendly service. And the food! I had a rich souffle with Roqueford cheese in a creamed spinach sauce - quite unique. Hubby had ostrich fillet. Both delicious. The food came super quick. And the chef treated us with a very special amusement to boot. All of this at a reasonable price. A bargain actually. Thanks for a special lunch!

Of course they have a great view. Obviously the wine is better than good (hint: it's incredible). And it will not surprise you to hear that the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. What is new to most people is that the food is magic.
It tricks you into a sense of comfort by using names you recognise. Duck confit. Gnocchi. Croquette. All will be familiar. Then suddenly present something completely new and leave you beguiled and laughing a little at the fool who walked in expecting an experience that they'd had before elsewhere.
I'm not sure what will be in the menu when you come through but my advice would be to try something you may not have tried somewhere else. Let the wizards in the kitchen gift you with something memorable.

The quantity of food was so disappointing that we went straight from this restaurant to a steakhouse in Franschhoek to have a second meal to quench our hunger. This is cordon bleu to the extreme. While the ostrich steak was tasty and of 3 reasonable chunks, the 3 minute beetroot and two ribbons of miniature carrots were the smallest vegetables we have ever seen. It made us think we were guilty of eating undersized crayfish tails, where the decorative edible leaves were more substantial than the vegetables on the plate.
Because the menu describes these vegetables in some detail, we did not order any side dishes. It was a real pity because the ostrich steaks were done very nicely, and the service and view were excellent. But we go to a restaurant to eat food and that is the main criteria by which we feel satisfied.
We are not averse to cordon bleu servings but please don't give us an extract from a tasting menu and call it a main course!

Whilst the service was good, the food was very average both in flavour and in presentation.
We had the West Coast sole which was very small, not a main course portion, and upon mentioning this to the manager, he said that sometimes it was bigger. With a small sole and a little broccoli on the large plate, a side plate of chips, it was to say the least, very poor and disappointing. There are so many better value options in the Winelands.

We were seated outside on the terrace with the view of the vineyards and mountains before us. It was a perfect day.
Our lunch complemented the setting. Thank you to Lizette for hosting us well. It’s a well-earned ten out of ten from us for the appetizing amuse-bouche, sirloin and pork belly mains with herby butternut side and milk tart dessert.

One of the downsides of writing great reviews is that readers then flock to the place and you can no longer book a table – but I’ll take the risk as Glen Carlou deserves every success. We enjoyed our excellent lunch, served on the balcony, which is blessed with stunning views. As always the food is attractively presented, fine dining style and accompanied by excellent wines at very reasonable prices. It is a real delight to eat here.

Beautifully plated mouth watering food with a panoramic valley/mountain view. The melon soup starter was sublime. Service a bit too slow so we sadly had to skip dessert. Wine tasting was interesting with some very good vintages.

Glen Carlou is a must-visit when we are in South Africa and we enjoy lunch on the veranda, overlooking the vines and the mountains of Paarl beyond.
The watermelon soup was unusual (delicious) and the kingclip main very tasty. I particularly enjoyed dessert - the white chocolate platter

When you have loved a restaurant and return you are a little worried if it will be as good. Several years on it is just as good and those stunning views from the dining room make it worth a visit in itself. Dietary considerations we taken into account even with the amuse bouche that were served alongside fabulous bread and the food - meat, fish and vegetarian - was all beautifully cooked and delicious. Service too was wonderful. A great restaurant.

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience at the restaurant. From the moment we were seated until we left, the staff were incredibly attentive. Food was amazing, staff fully knowledgeable on menu, providing us with great recommendations. Suffice to say, being seated outside, Omar has the opportunity to absorb & be completely immersed in the panoramic view of the area. Food, service, setting…brilliant!!

We have visited Glen Carlou recently, in the beginning it was the pure interest in their art gallery which is really something spectacular, we than got into a discussion with the staff at their wine tasting bar and we had one special kind of a very personal and special private treatment by Dilon, one of the guys behind the bar. It was such a pleasure a great experience talking with him, very good wine knowledge and a very kind person. We got a special cellar tour, he showed us everything and at the end at wine bar be got to taste some very special wines.
If you would like to taste great wines provided by nice people, than please visit Glen Carlou. 💯🙋

We had an outstanding light lunch at this vineyard. We sat on the patio which offers a spectacular view of the vineyards. The food was excellent but the highlight of the visit was the outstanding service from the waitron and the wine steward. The wines were excellent with a special nod to the desert wine Chenin Blanc and the Petite Classique red blend. Definitely a hidden gem amongst the other more commercialized estates.

The restaurant has a beautiful view over the valley, with a large balcony. There is also in door seating, but with a view like this you want to sit outside. Service is great. Menu a bit limited, which doesn’t quite match the wines or the view. Rich food with an attempt to make the servings look attractive.

Our first visit to Glen Carlou and it won't be the last! The fist impressions were fantastic, the building is stunning, the glass floor looking into the cellar is amazing, fabulous art gallery and the food Fabulous! Four of us all had different things off the menu and not one complaint! I had the blue cheese souffle - would have happily had it again for my main course. The guys had the sole which they both agreed was good, I had the duck - excellent and my friend had the lamb, she said it was melt in the mouth. Great service. Definitely coming back on a sunny day to enjoy the terrace, views and food.
