Christmas lunch at Avondale vinyard was a treat ! Wonderful food and service . It’s always a challenge to provide a lunch for a large gathering who are served at the same time - fine dining is a tricky business , they carried it off in great style ! Thanks a bunch for making our Christmas special

My 71st birthday brought us to this incredible-lii “Chick” restaurant housed in a gabled manor house on the Avondale Wine Estate. Its indeed a Wow-Place to come to. When you enter the estate it is always reassuring when you have to first pass a guard-house and a guard who must left the boom for you to pass to gain access to the property. The entire surroundings are so picturesque-lii awesome-lii beautiful even the garden of the manor-house is in an immaculate state very pretty even with a simple-fountain which adds to the elegance. When you enter the manor-house on the left is the area where the “Wine Tasting” takes place very nice-lii laid-out on the right-side is the restaurant which is a fair size with the Pub-Counter on your left but here no drinks are served, all drinks are served at the tables. Today the “Birthday-Boy” had the best seat in the house right in front of the massive-glass window looking out onto the patio where patrons can also set down outside but the best part of this window is that one is able to look at the vine-yards stretched out with the whole of Paarl laying below, from here you can even see the “Taal Monument” in the distance. Right opposite is this large “Hole/Window” normal-lii called the kitchen where a group of young men are very intense-lii and meticulous-lii busy producing insidious-lii delicious treats that brings Mmmm-h and More Mmmmm-h’s to all who indulge. On the table is organic bread, butter and pumpkin-fritters even some plum-juice made from the fruit grown on the farm. We started out with a bottle of Avondale (Armilla) MCC which was crisp and very refreshing. For our meals we opted for the Ala-cart 3 course a starter, main-meal and a dessert: - The starters were out of this world, 1. Honey & Mustard glazed free range Pork, 2. Peppered Buffelshoek springbok loin so well presented but even more delicious when eaten. Mains: - 1. Butter roasted Buffelsjagbaai Cape Bream served with roasted prawns, octopus and squid. Again well presented and well prepared full of delicious flavour. 2. Slow roasted Karoo lamb saddle, Smoked and braised lamb-neck. Wow how insidious-lii delicious having its own unique taste and flavouring. Desserts: - 1. Cacao Barry royaltine Mousse serve with a variety of fresh berries and edible flowers. 2. White-wine poached Rhubarb and Quince serve on chocolate sponge, lime sorbet and white chocolate. Absolute-lii delicious. Service here and the food served was fit for royal-tii. Our waiter “Brian” was on point and explained in detail what each morsel of food we enjoyed was. This place is unique as it take the eco-system into consideration as most foods served here is organic, they even farm organic-lii and use the ingredients and what they don’t have they buy from the local farmers in the area. This venue warrants another visit from us in the near future most definite-lii. We high-lii recommend this establishment to all to come and experience sheer bliss!!!….NB! The rest-rooms are very clean and user friend-lii. They also have a fire 🔥 place for the winter….

Our son from Europe visited us and we were looking for a special restaurant to entertain him at. Faber looked like the perfect place, and we loved the sustainable "farm-to-fork" slogan! Overall, it was a great experience and the setting, food presentation and service were top-notch, including the welcoming glass of MCC and bread plate to start off. The Avondale Shiraz was amazing and we really enjoyed our starters, the lamb rack and the dessert. However, we were a bit disappointed with the single choice of a vegetarian mains on the menu, and when my son and wife opted for the Cape Salmon instead, it was dry and bland, on top of some al dente vegetables. We definitely expected more for R300! We were also surprised that the waiter opened a second bottle of still water (at R47!) without checking with us first, and then tried his best to get it below the halfway mark by continuing to top up our glasses. It is a nice restaurant with excellent elements, but it has some work to do to match its aspirations and the prices of its food.

As always, the food was absolutely fantastic. The service was excellent. We had a very attentive young waiter who catered to all our requests. The homemade bread was great again. Eating in this beautiful garden is always a great experience.

What a SUPER experience at FABER!
We were welcomed with some MCC and some awesome complimentary "welcoming snack".
All waiters where very professional and had great knowledge of the food and wine on the menu.
All and all a 5 Starr experience, could not fault anything.
The food was like something out of a MasterChef kitchen – next level taste and quality!
Worth every penny!
Can highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions and more.
Super well done guys – we will definitely come back for more.

We have visited Faber 3 times this year, each time enjoying spectacular unpretentious food.
What I personally love at Faber is seeing the Chef's kitchen in action and believe me, this is some well run kitchen!! Their farm to table approach ensures guests eat
If you go in Summer, it can get scorchingly hot, so although sitting outdoors is so pretty, you will be better off inside their dining room.
There is a very lovely and comfortable tasting room where you can sit and enjoy a great variety of the Avondale wines.
The decor is a little dated but is historically in keeping with the Cape Dutch building, which then makes it lovely and cool indoors.

Oh my word, what a wonderful food and wine experience!
We had lunch here with a ravenous teen and a 7 year old and they managed to cater for everyone’s tastes with beautiful, tasty, organic food which delighted the tastebuds and impressed the senses. The staff were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
A superb selection of wine was on offer to compliment the food.

Faber, I am overdue a review for their fantastic menu and attention to detail. From the moment you walk in you are welcomed by a glass of something to welcome you. To a beautiful and meticulous table. Our waiter Atkins was a gem last night. We peppered him with loads of questions such as which art piece was his favourite and he told us a beautiful story about his favourite piece that reminded him of home. We enjoyed talking to him about our own travels to where he lives and we appreciated his patience with a couple of guests at our table who were a little hard work and tipsy. And thus we felt very much at home with Atkins. Our guests had the 6 course menu and we had a 2 course. Everything was impeccable. And as were his wine recommendations. My photos arent great but I promise every bite was.

We had an absolutely stunning lunch at Faber at Avondale wine farm.
We choose the 6 course tasting menu. I normally find on a tasting menu there are some highs and lows - not at Faber. Every course was a delight, filled with interesting flavours and well cooked ingredients. Many of the ingredients are grown on the farm.
We enjoyed the Avondale wines by the glass with our meal.
The restaurant has gorgeous views of the vines and the mountains.
The staff are top notch - friendly, welcoming and good at what they do.
Highly recommended and will return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here.The food although not fine dining in the strict sense of the word as it was a set three course creative menu.Most of the products accompanying the fish and meat were from their estate and their freshness showed.
The restaurant itself is very informal and the outdoor terrace overlooks their garden with an array of flowers and beyond to mountains.It is an ideal lunch venue
It was an opportunity to experience tempura quinoa filled courgette flower.The rack of lamb was superb as the meat was pink slowly cooked and just fell apart.
We had the opportunity to speak to Dale and Kat head chef and manager respectively - delightful couple passionate about their jobs and it shows in the professionalism of their staff

Our first visit to Faber was a fabulous experience. The six course lunch left absolutely nothing to desire. Creative and innovative use of local ingredients, paired with the most excellent wines from its own winery, ensured that we were extremely happy with the experience .
Nice, qualified and attentive staff and none of the poshness or arrogance (in people, interior design or otherwise) that is encountered elsewhere ever so often at this top culinary level.
Even the scenery upon approach of the Avondale premises is not as flashy as at some other wineries. But once at the table, that is soon forgotten. Lots of thanks to chef and kitchen staff and to all those others who gave us an unforgettable lunch, worth the travel of more than 10.000 kilometres from home.

Had a delicious lunch in the most beautiful setting whilst the “baby chef” slaved away! Thank you Chef Dale Stevens & team for a truly superb flavour-burst experience! Our numerous dietary requirements were all and well taken care of. Oswald, our waiter, was super-efficient and extremely well versed in the food, ingredients used and preparation of the meals as well as the various Avondale wines on offer.
We highly recommend Faber restaurant - it is absolutely worth the visit.

Booked the early sitting for the Friday night steak special. And special it is. Perfectly medium-rare and amazing sauce and veggies. One of the best steaks we have ever had. A glass of 2010 Samara came with the meal so a real value for money offering at R 225 a head. The pumpkin fritters and home made bread was a surprising addition. Excellent service but a bit too many table calls by the waiter can be annoying.

Unforgettable experience at Faber. Despite being a party of 6 all opting for the tasting menu, no dish was under nor overwhelming, showcasing the chef's abundance of talent as he consistently struck the perfect balance of flavours for each plate, every single course. This led to each course delivering an explosion of flavours that only left one salivating for more. Fresh picked ingredients that were uniquely and perfectly combined, made it obvious that every single ingredient plated was carefully envisioned. We could really feel the farm-to-fork experience and taste how fresh the ingredients were. Needles to say, the food was exquisite and had incredibly creative elements to it. The service was impeccable. Our glasses were never empty and everything was well-timed. The staff was immensely friendly and helpful, resulting in us feeling at home from moment we entered.
