I always google restaurants before I go to them, as it gives me a good idea of what to expect from the place. Well, the reviews I read were very good and needed to make sure of this. The restaurant was not listed as #1...or 2 but a well placed #9 in Oudtshoorn. Let the placing not be an excuse not to visit this place. We had the most amazing experience at the foot of the Swartberge. The host and owner, Kobus, spent lotsa time chatting to his guest and ensuring their meals and needs were met. He also showed us the 2 units for accommodation at the restaurant... All the meals were freshly prepared and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. At the end we had desserts and coffee to complete a great meals and the ladies each got a gift from Kobus... We will definitely be going back to that Gat... Highly recommended as a visit... A day in Oudtshoorn is not complete without a visit to this roosterkoek heaven. My lamb kaaiings were top class. Proper butter. Sprigs of rosemary and lavender flowers made the presentation go from mundane to cuisine! Kobus is a great host and Ross who was...our waitron is a super cool laidback young man. He has a surfer type lingo which had us laughing. Even the kitchen staff came out to greet us. We will be back and will lookout for you in Mossel Bay/HartenbosMore

We had the most pleasant experience this past weekend at "Kobus se Gat". Very friendly service, like their saying "come in as a tourist, leave as a friend". We had a very nice chat with the owner Kobus and to top it off I have...never tasted roosterkoek so delicious as theirs anywhere else in the country, if I lived closer I wouldve been there everyday for roosterkoek.More

We went to Kobus de Gat because Roger Young recommended it. When we got there we were unimpressed as the welcome is a bit off putting but then we sat under the wooden roof which looks like it will soon cave in! And proceeded to...have one of the best burgers I’ve ever had! Here’s to you, Kobus for serving such amazing Burgers! Please make sure that wooden shade won’t be falling on someone’s table while they bit into one of your scrumptious burgers!!More

Hi Felicia Thanks for the feedback. The roof (fortunately) does not look like that on purpose. Not sure if you spoke to Kobus, but we had extreme wind a few weeks ago, and are waiting for insurance to investigate before we can do anything about...More

Does this place still exist? Drove out from Knysna 3 times only to find it to be closed every time. This was very disappointing as we really wanted to enjoy a nice lunch on the mountain side.
