Out of dry and seemingly inhospitable surroundings we were served a spring salad to remember! It could not have been bettered. Friendly and helpful owners made us at home on the stoep. The beer is also excellent! We had a first class lunch that was memorable. We cannot wait to go back.

Friends and I stayed at Nature's Rest for the weekend and the owner suggested we visit Thorny Creek brewery for the best cheese and meat platter and coldest craft beer. A beautiful and tasty platter with the best Belgian beer on one of the hottest days in the Karoo. What a great experience!! An absolute treat and perfect outing for the whole family...

The most beautiful setting surrounded by flowering aloes with exceptional hosts (Rob & Olga). Food was delicious! Crisp fresh produce home grown in their veggie/herb gardens. Kids spent the afternoon feeding all the little birds that came to visit from the surrounding trees. Magic place! Definitely worth a visit!

Thorny Creek is located about 15 min (by car) from Oudtshoorn, with the last 5 km requiring driving on a (good) gravel road. But the food, setting, view and people make the somewhat dusty drive so worthwhile. Arriving at Thorny Creek the contrast between the harsh, dry environment in which it is located and the unexpected stylish simplicity on display offer such a pleasant surprise. This integration between the Klein Karoo landscape, the physical space, the food and personalities of the owners is present throughout, whether in their decor, menu, produce (most of the ingredients used are either home-grown or locally sourced) or processes. All of this combine to make Thorny Creek an unforgettable experience.

Unbelievable hidden gem. We arrived not knowing what we were in for and obnoxiously asked if they did Hamburgers! Well...were then educated in the wonders of home grown and consciously prepared food. A fantastic experience that taught us to be more mindful of what we eat. The home brewed beer was delicious, the setting and venue was magical and Olga and Rob are very special people. Totally worth a visit!

A delightful find in the heart of Oudtshoorn. A restful, quiet, atmosphere with indoor and outdoor dining areas. The name Basil and Barley hints at the delicious vegetarian/vegan menu while Karoo lamb and German sausage are offered too. The home brewed beer added to this delicious experience. As out-of-towners we will definitely return.

A quaint place in the quiet Karoo. Quality beer and a small cart with delicacies. Fresh herbs & fruits from their organic garden form the basis for a nice lunch. We enjoyed the Karoo lamb and the burrata very much. A jewel in the desert.

Beautiful people, beautiful food. This is absolutely a fantastic place for the whole family. They need more support from locals as it was a bit quiet.

On my last visit, there was fresh burrata cheese, which was served with tomatoes, fresh rocket, fresh basil pesto and gorgeous homemade bread. It was to die for, and accompanied by a craft beer, it was enough to fill me up, and make my tummy very happy.

A truly perfect way go spend a South African Heritage Day. Fantastic beer brewed by Rob along with the braai fires, homemade butter to go on the bread made with Russian Stout and a killer salad! Will be back here for sure!

Great atmosphere in beautiful surroundings. Relaxed and my hubby raved over the beer that is brewed by the owner. Great place to go for breakfast or lunch. Definitely going back.

Thorny Creek Brewery is a rustic little place in a beautiful setting. The beer that is brewed by the owner is fantastic and so is the food. We loved everything and every moment spent at Thorny Creek. This little brewery is so worth a visit and we will definitely be back.

We visited this rustic brewery and restaurant on Sunday and met Rob and Olga. Then tried their beer and stout and all approved. We six had their cheese platter and found the home made bread, cheeses and cold meats delicious. Th Red Bus has quite a history and is situated on a hill overlooking Thorney Creek. It has been converted for living purposes. Cafe is only open Saturdays and Sundays for breakfast and lunch. Rob and Olga are very interesting people. Ask Rob about the Bus!!
