I decided to go to the Italian Club for my birthday on the 9th September as a treat and a nice change. Well I left very disappointed. I wish I had made a reservation somewhere else. Prawns on seafood pizza were RAW. How can an...Italian place serve such horrible food? Its extremely expensive. I have emailed them and no response. I will never visit again. R800 down the drain and birthday evening spoilt.More

Used to regularly eat here years ago and was always good. Tried it for the first time for a long while for Sunday lunch with a group of friends. What a disappointment! Slow service, cold food, small portions and not cheap. Will be many more...years , if ever, before I try again.More

This restaurant used to be my favourite place to visit in the Western Cape , but now unfortunately it's far away from the prestige it once had. For those not informed , since the start of 2022 , end of 2021 , the restaurant has...been in a management nightmare. Although it's previous manager's contract has been ended , the restaurant has been left in a sad state , needing to be managed by Cape Town's Italian Club themselves. Although the restaurant isn't as good as it used to be under it's original management, it is obvious that the new temporary management are trying their best to make something of a broken place. Food & drinks: Although the food is a far cry from what it once was , it still had substantial flavour and the portions were quite big, making for a nice evening or afternoon out. Their drinks menu still has some variety to it , and still all-in-all has everything you might need. Atmosphere & Staffing: Since the restaurant's management crisis , it has obviously been working on a skeleton staff , seen as we had the GM , Sizwe (very kind and hardworking person), personally serve us instead of a waiter. Sizwe and his team's efforts to still please do not go unnoticed and it is refreshing to see such a mission to please the customer. The restaurant lacks people , probably due to it's dimished service , but I sincerely hope people return to and help this restaurant to get back on it's feet. I can only hope that my previous favorite gets the funding and attention it deserves . It is still , as always , a great place to dine for all.More

food was ABSOLUTELY terrible, pasta had no sauce , as dry as shoe leather; chicken salad has 5 pieces of chicken and the menu stated baby tomatoes, well it was big chunks so completely unappetizing with the cheapest lettuce one can buy, which happens when...you try and cut costs . It also stated nuts in the salad and there were none, not one. not sure which they were suppose to be, i was thinking walnuts get used in salads. I asked the waiter where are the nuts as per the menu and i got a handful of peanuts brought to me with one Brazil nut and two walnuts... hows that for you? And the service for so few diners was outrageous. And the prices are way to HIGH for all items on the menu. They trying to make money fast.More

I was delighted to see the end of the Palmieri restaurant management era at the Italian Club. It now enjoys a far more authentic regional Italian food offering and the restaurant is much cleaner and brighter. I am also glad to report that since November...2020, sitting in the bar is not accompanied by the strong 'toilet' smell that would previously emanate from the mens' bathrooms! Since COVID has impacted restaurants far and wide with over 4500 closing in the Cape Town area alone, it is refreshing to see turnouts of over 70 people for the well crafted Sunday lunch menu. The space in the restaurant lends itself to the safety of social distancing and compliance with COVID regulations. To be honest, the craziness of the Palmieri era staff and restaurant floor never really suited us as a family. If I wanted that and steakhouse food, I'd have gone to the Spur. Thankfully, quality has taken pride of place over quantity - no more heaped plates of below average steakhouse-type offerings. Most people who venture out of home to eat nowadays are looking for value for money in a place where they can reconnect with family and friends without having to shout above loud music and 'vibey' waitrons. Let's face it, many of us have lost loved ones and we value the time to reflect over an unpretentious meal. Also, we appreciate that mitigating risk for staff and patrons may mean a slower service but then Italian food, by it's nature, is a long lazy unrushed affair. There was one sitting per table which meant that we felt unrushed and safer from any likely infection. The calm and grace which has now descended on this establishment is both a blessing and a drawcard. These are good, small new beginnings for a little oasis in Rugby that has undergone a difficult re-invention in unprecedented times. To many more wonderful Friday after-work pizza's and sundowners, lots of lazy family Sunday lunches and a celebration of the sweet life - la dolce vita!More

This place used to be the best restaurant in town, with amazing food & quirking ambiance. Under new management it has lost the vibe completely. The Italians have left the building. A dismal Saturday night 3 tables & a one man band.

What used to be our best Italian food place in Cape Town has sadly become the worst since the Palmieri brothers left. We were regulars here and often visited 2 or 3 times a month, during the week, evenings or sundays and the food was...always spectacular and abundant. Service was always brilliant and we knew all of the staff well. Today we decided to venture out for a special family treat, and support one of our favourites in trying covid times. The food was so so, but the service was appalling. From being seated at 12h30, we waited 45 minutes to get stale bread and salad, lasagna followed almost an hour later, and the saltimbocca and dessert managed to make it to the table at 15h30, after we had to ask 3 times for it! After restaurants going through such hard times with covid, this is so sad, but we sadly wont be back and fear they will be faced with more problems if they cant manage the tables they have. Its unheard of to have 1 waiter serving drinks and food to a restaurant this size. There were 2 other helpers but all they did was clear and help to carry plates. There were probably close to 100 people there today, surely they should have planned better as it was a set menu and had to be pre booked. One would think they could handle it with ease as it is a regular sunday feature.More

This is a hidden gem, in true club style, there are the range of sporting disciplines - including archery and fencing. Which is unusual. On the way to the restaurant is a Delicatessen, simply excellent selection at reasonable prices. The restaurant is really homely, pizza...fire going in the corner and a really good selection of pastas and pizzas and on certain days they have specials ie Prawns. Being a club bar prices are a pleasure and they also have an amazing Italian draft beer. So if you looking for good food, relaxed, warm ambiance and a lively back drop, then the Italian Club is where you will find it.More

My Italian mother in law suggested to go for lunch. What a good decision, we had the 3 course menu for R180 pp. Starter beautiful home made tagliatelle with bolognese and napoletana. For mains we had the pork pizzaiola and the line fish with prawns....For desert we had the creme caramel which lacked a bit of caramel. All in all superb honest Italian food, great in its simplicity. Do not miss out. TheoMore

8 of us celebrated a birthday. Food was awesome and the vibe was great, considering it was a Monday night I had the Pesto Tagliatelle and asked for a take away bag. Huge portions. Always a winner.

Quality and a warm atmosphere for all. The food is authentic Italian. Every pizza and pasta dish is a winner. The calamari is very tender. Great value for money, especially the weekly specials. Tuesday is the Pizza special Wednesday is the rib special and Thursdays...the prawn. All delicious. The large indoor and outdoor play areas are perfect for children to play. The highlight of every month is the first Sunday of the month buffet, an absolute must.More
