Friendliness but little flavour

We fancied Chinese food over the weekend so went here as the latest reviews seemed quite good. Our welcome was super friendly and drinks and menus appeared promptly. Chairs and tables were a bit tatty but place was quite clean. Unfortunately all the food was very bland and quite tasteless. Prawn spring rolls lacked prawns. Lot's of wet cabbage inside. Chicken chow mein looked lovely but was also tasteless. Fried rice was a bit overcooked and clumpy and beef sizzling platter was very generous butt texture of the beef was strange - gelatinous and again, tastless. Shame really because the peeps were lovely but the chef just needs to get his/her act together a bit. Perhaps this was just an off day for the kitchen. Would try it again to see.

Enjoyable lunch.

We enjoy very good Chinese dishes. The service was friendly and efficient . New tablecloths. We visit three times after lockdown and there was nothing to complain about .

Good food, service was great.

The food was good and they were quick to serve us. Even though they were busy we couldn't complain. The food was very tasty and the portions generous. The best Asian food in Knysna.

What a Meal !!

Angela and Daniel prepared a lavish meal of Peking Duck to take away for a celebration lunch for four. There was enough food for eight ! The quality was of the usual very high and tasty standard we have become accustomed to as regular patrons of Bowtie since they opened in our town many years ago . The quality and authenticity make it a drawcard for Chinese visitors to Knysna. Sadly there have been no tours during this Covid period, but one would wish that the locals continue their support.

Lovely New Premises in Gray Street

A while back we decided to have a Chinese Dinner at home with all our favourite duck dishes and side orders. We placed our order and collected it all ready and warm at the restaurant. As always, Angela did not disappoint and we had more than enough delicious food to entertain 6 guests. The meal comprised duck and pancakes, three assorted duck meat dishes, duck soup, noodles, fried and steamed rice. The guests received fortune cookies with their pre-dinner drinks and this set an excellent tone right throughout until we completed the meal with crisp freshly made bowties and jasmine tea. Bowtie has this month moved to lovely ,light and airy premises in Gray Street. Yesterday we had another delicious meal, a special fish dish prepared by Daniel, Yangzhou rice among other. Highly recommended.

Not a great takeaway

We thought we would try the new (to us) Thai restaurant and takeaway. Various dishes were ordered and when we got home we struggled to identify each one. Having made our assumptions on each of our choices we started to ‘tuck in’. There were a number of issues with the different dishes but suffice to say we won’t be having another take away from bow tie.

A feast of flavours

We enjoyed the set menu, with a slight variation to try a veggie meal - which was amazing! Everything was delicious, especially the chicken and sweet corn soup and we enjoyed eating with the traditional dishes and chopsticks. The Chinese tea at the end was very refreshing and a perfect end.

Great take out

We missed the flavours of home and Bow Tie delivered! Our food was read and waiting for us within the predicted 30 min. The sweet and sour pork, Shanghai steak and chicken chow mein were great!

Authentic Chinese

I’ve been to many Chinese restaurants all over South Africa and this is authentic Chinese cuisine. As a result, the Chinese owner’s English is not great, because she’s from China😉 but food is great! So don’t be dismayed by the look of the restaurant, it’s the food that matters! Great prices too are a bonus!

Take Away disaster!

Ordered take-aways and my 30min wait turned into a hour. Got home and realised that the Vietnam Black pepper beef that I ordered turned out to be a Pork in Oyster sauce. The Chicken curry was good at least. Couldn’t complain about service because there wasn’t any. Waited for 10mins at the till before anyone approached me and the owner had a big fight with someone in the kitchen. So unprofessional! First and last time there

Don't - seriously just don't

Dirty, chipped crockery, dreadful food - just don't bother! I had the chicken fried rice, a favourite of mine enjoyed in quite a few differenct coutries! Never have i seen it like this - clumps of plain white rice - not fried - lumps of something I presume was chicken. Did not bother eating it and on complaning just got a blank look!

Never had such a bad service

The service was extremely bad. We ordered 3 times or were asked again till they had the final order. The food itself was acceptable, but not good.

What the hell?

Burnt Shanghai steak...when complained the owner she said thats the way it is served. Tasted many Shanghai steak dishes before never had one that inedible.

bad service/bad food

Firstly we waited a long time to order and then the food was totally basic & not what we ordered. Noodles were only with beef and no single vegetables in it. selfmade thai noodles would have been better. The worst part was paying. They calculated wrong, shouted at us when we asked how they calculated & told us we are ripping them off.
