We bought some fish in the fresh fish section which we took to our place to cook, and booked a table for the next night. We realised after our meal that it is almost as cheap to let them cook it for you than to buy it and cook yourself, and they cook it so much better!!! It was so good, we cancelled our reservation elsewhere for the next night and went straight back. The food is outstanding; how they manage to cook it so well and so quickly in that tiny kitchen, who know - and who cares!!! If you enjoy fish, there is nowhere better to eat. We will be back next year - many times hopefully!

Ignore the comments about the restaurant’s surroundings, yes it is unassuming from the car park but the tent and tropical hanging baskets give the place a cool and laid back feel. We thought it was great. You have to bring your own bottle which for Brits is amazing as no mark up to pay on the wine (and they didn’t even charge corkage). The seafood was sensational. Including a 15% tip, we paid £30 for two people and ate some of the best seafood we have had in ages. Definitely recommended.

Needless to say, fish is the thing to have here! What’s different though is the variety of choice of cooking method. We rang up to book a table for the same evening and the only one available was at 5:30! Fortunately we hadn’t stopped for lunch so that was fine. It is a great place to people watch, is very rustic & laid back and our food was reasonably priced and beautifully cooked.

Nice set up on a little fake beach (on a parking lot!). Menu seemed very promising, but they did not have most of the “whole” fresh fishes. We ordered a sole but they didn’t have the medium, which they did not tell us upfront but in the end got two little ones (more expensive). They were ok, but I’ve had much better in other places. Very plain. We also had the seafood extravaganza (R419, the most expensive of the menu) but once we got it we noticed that the 2 scallops in shell were missing (nobody told us) and asked where the scallops where as this was one of the reasons why we ordered the plate. They were finished, they said, without letting us know upfront. Only had the big scallops but did not replace the 2 scallops with 1 big scallop but replaced it with 1 mussel and fries (which we did not want). Asked if they could replace it but never got back to us. After asking a few more times they told us that they would not replace it and would give us a discount. We got a discount of 27 but the scallops on the menu were 76,50. Place seemed like seafood heaven and was recommended as the best seafood in town but in the end it just seemed as a tourist trap. To top it of we saw the rats walking beneath the table!! Which the staff is aware of! Girl who served us was really nice but we would never come back and never recommend it to anyone.

I went to Freshline Fisheries on Thursday 13 February 2020 as we were on a family holiday. When we stepped in no one bothered to assist us and I had to ask someone if we can sit down. So we were taken to a table on the far side and those waiters made us feel really unwelcome. I am not a racist individual but i feel we were taken to one side so we couldnt sit close to the others as we are coloured people. My daughter of 10 years old asked why we taken to a corner and why we cannot sit in the middle like everyone else. These kids are was never part of that era and neither have I been part of it. After getting our menus not explaining anything we were waiting for almost 10 minutes for someone to come to our table and no one bothered coming to our table. We decided there and then to leave that restaurant. Waiters needs to change their mindsets as we are past the apartheid era where coloured people are not allowed to sit close to white people. Please teach them that.

This is terrible, and we have never in 9 years had anything of this nature happen before. If you knew the nature of how we as a family function at Freshline you would be inspired. We are not at all racist and we are a very close knit family. We apologize if this is how you were made to feel. Our culture is that we are all one, and it is very beautiful. Again- Sorry! Ron

If you are visiting Knysna you MUST go to Freshline Freshies. Their fish is FRESH unlike the waterfront restaurants serving frozen ‘fresh’ fish at double the price Staff are attentive and always smiling. Food was the best we had in Knysna during our stay Its a slops, shorts, feet in the sand kind of restaurant which gives such a relaxing atmosphere. FYI: they don’t serve alcohol but you are welcome to take your own Just go, you won’t be sorry

Yes the fish is fresh but it does not compensate for the shabby setting. Quality variable (wonderful prawns, ok oysters but I had better elsewhere, inedible chewy calamari), prices very high in the affordable South African context. You can eat better and cheaper in much nicer places in the area.

As stated in a few previous reviews, prices have risen way out of line. The food is generally good, but now cannot by any stretch of the imagination be regarded as value for money. This is sad as we have been regular clients for many years now. There are several good restaurants in Knysna that are offering super specials and as a result they are doing great business. They are filling their restaurants primarily with locals, essential if a business is going to thrive in Knysna, and the overseas or out-of-town clients are a bonus. Even for take-outs, there are a couple of fish shops providing good food at much lower prices.

Good day, I am sad to see your review on our prices, for you say that you are a regular at our restaurant, you would know that our menu and prices have not changed since 2019. We have not updated or increased our prices at all, even though our suppliers of fresh fish and our groceries have increased twice in the past year. We only serve the best and freshest fish in Knysna and we strive to stay that way. I am sorry that you feel we are way overpriced.

We were excited after about 4 years to return. It definitely looks beautiful and the look has improved. Love the laid back ambience and “beach setting”. However after arriving with our 18 month daughter today, we don’t think we’ll return. Ordered her vegetables which took well over an hour! Along with our prawns and my husbands crayfish (everything came in at different times!) the crayfish costed R927 and was the smallest crayfish I’ve ever seen! Ridiculously priced and not worth it by any means. Tasteless. My 6 mozambique prawns didn’t seem to taste right, and on eating the 4th one realised they were very undercooked! Flavourless too. Waitress said she spoke to chef and he will recook my other 2 prawns and agreed they were not cooked well (no apologies from the manager for serving way undercooked prawns!) best part of our meal was our beer. The sushi average. Disappointed and a waste of close to R2000!

Hi there We are so sad to hear that you had a bad experience at the restaurant. I know our kitchen was very busy but that is no excuse for taking out undercooked food. And the fact that you had to wait so long for your baby's food makes me very unhappy. I do apologise for the inconvenience and would love for you to return again one day. Our sincere apologies and wish you a blessed 2022. Regards Freshline

The bonus here is that you can bring your own drinks. That doesn’t detract from the great food and friendly staff. It was busy when we went with people who hadn’t booked being turned away. As the name implies there is a good selection of fish dishes all freshly cooked. They have very good peri peri sauce. You can book booths for 6 and 10 people making it a super way to celebrate a special occasion. Al in all, one of the best restaurants in Knysna.

The first impression, a campsite atmosphere with rustic wooden benches and wooden chairs on sand under a tent roof. No extras like a preferred location with a view of the sea. No alcoholic beverages are sold, but you can bring them to the restaurant and consume them there. Friendly welcome, compliance with the corona rules, friendly service and fast order acceptance, menu focusing on local fish and local sea fruits. On two visits tried fillet from Hake, King Clip and Cob, grilled. Delicious and authentic taste incl. a fine marinade with perfect cooking times observed. Loved the grilled Cob! Side dishes, the chips not oily and with very good quality, the mixed salat with a pleasant sauce, can't say if the sauce was self made or from the bottle. My stomach told me later, where I didn't feel the food at all, how good the quality must have been, very fresh and also wild from the ocean. Prices for South-African standards not low, but in our opinion completely reasonable for the quality and service provided. Also a sympathetic down to earth owner with whom we also briefly talked. A culinary feel good place to which we would like to return.

This is a fantastic place for fish and seafood. You eat outside on wooden benches and tables, and although the seat can get uncomfortable whilst you choose and wait for your meal, once the food arrives all is forgotten. The food is very fresh and nicely prepared - the giant Madagascan prawns are split down the middle and really easy to eat ... and delicious! The place has a great atmosphere despite the basic nature. We brought a Kanonkop rosé as an accompaniment and it went very well. Highly recommended.

We had dinner here on recommendation of a Knysna local. It’s a casual place with great seafood. Our fish and supersize Mozambique prawns were cooked perfectly and the cost was in my opinion ridiculously cheap. The place has no liquor license so it was great fun to bring our own bottle of wine to enjoy with the meal. Jaylene our server was very good. Highly recommended

3 of us went for an early supper, and the grilled Hake, Calamari and Gurnard, salad and their spicy rice - which is mildly spiced tomato based and laced with plentiful peppers and mushrooms were all superbly cooked, fresh and full of flavour. It’s a mostly al-fresco under brollies and canvas casual, rustic affair - bench seating at individual picnic tables (cushions and blankets available). BYO with no corkage charge, and the restaurant happily provided ice and lemon slices for our G and T’s. Happy, buzzy vibe with lots of locals (we bumped into the owner of our lunch venue), alongside tourists, with good service from busy but cheerfully efficient staff. Be sure to book as we saw many guests turned away.

This was our eighth yeart to go here. A must go to place for both fresh fish and matured meat. It is an extremely popular venue and that is clear sign of the quality of the food you get. Atmosphere a bit unusual as they are copying the type of restaurant you get up the Namibia coastline.
