Ficks is situated at the historic site in Hermanus, Ficks Pool. We serve Pinchos which are small sized dishes inspired by the Northern Spain cuisine. We encourage visitors to order a variety of dishes and share them among your friends and family. We were lucky enough to experience this amazing restaurant / venue just after their opening, whilst visiting Hermanus in the December holidays. Stunning setting, extremely well trained and friendly waiters (our was from Zimbabwe!), and lovely food & wine. Set around a sea rock pool, which is watched over by lifeguards, with a fairly limited and expensive menu, but offers delightfully tasty food. The kids loved swimming whilst we sipped wine, watching over them.
Tip: arrive just before 11am, which is when they open, to secure the best tables as the waiting list is endless in the peak season! No bookings allowed.

After opening only a couple of months ago, this is already attracting a good following. We went 3 times on our 12 day stay in Hermanus, and by 12.45 pm it was full on each occasion.
The food is an interesting tapas selection, complemented by excellent flammkuchens. Service excellent.
The location is probably the best in town but it does depend on reasonable weather being an outdoor venue.

We loved the atmosphere- people and dogs enjoying the tidal pool whilst we were indulging in an lovely selection of Tapas with gorgeous local wine. Stephen was a marvellous and attentive waitron even on a busy lunch time. Yoko, the Dutch owner, has added hugely to the cuisine world of Hermanus. It's a relaxed and informal atmosphere that locals and tourists alike just adore. The desserts were the best I have had in Hermanus- next time that and Bubbly will be the FIRST course. It's hard to get in over a weekend uness you are prepared to wait but now that Season is waning the locals will flock in. Open in Summer months only from 11am to 9pm. A MUST visit place and I really don't say that often!

Oh wow, what a spot! So glad someone took advantage of this place to build a restaurant. The service was really good! We waited a bit long for our chicken wings but the friendly manager brought us another dish to try while we wait. The food is average, but I guess this is what Hermanus locals want? The Spanish potato dish was not authentic, but just plain grilled potato wedges. They serve the same two sauces on all of their plates. The chicken wings were nice. The Moscow mule cocktail is served in a normal cocktail or beer glass. I would have liked to see a copper mug.
I loved their napkins, well done on sourcing those. One small detail I would like to bring to the owners attention, why are you serving single use plastic straws in your venue? I would expect a venue on the rocks and coastal nature reserve, like yours to either not serve straws at all, or to do some kind of replacement. I have seen restaurants to the metal ones as an option (you pay for it then) or the paper ones - not ideal. please protect our sea life by stop servicing those plastic straws.

I wouldn't describe the food at Ficks to be average at all and I'm very sorry that this was your experience. We also do not serve the same two sauces on all the dishes. They might be similar colour, but not quite the same in ingredients and flavour.
Just to touch on the environmental issue, the straw we use are bio-degradable and are made from sugar cane and corn starch. Keeping our environment clean and free from pollution is one of our absolute top priorities.
I'm glad that you had an overall good experience at Ficks and I hope that it will be even better on your next visit.

This new superb restaurant on the waters edge of Ficks Pool has the perfect atmosphere to socialise while having a good lunch and a cocktail. Crew is kind and very friendly, up to standards and very helpful. We were there when temperature dropped dramatically, blankets were handed out before we asked for it, and everyone had a smile on their face. Super!

I had heard about this new addition to the restaurant scene in Hermanus, so rushed to try the place. Unfortunately there were many more negatives than positives.
Yes, it's a great location, but as it was a sunny, warm day when we went, there were probably about 30 kids running around through the tables, diving in the water, and screaming. We were not aware that the pool is open to the public!
Management must arrange deliveries to come before the restaurant opens, so that large trolley's and boxes of food and drinks aren't wheeled through the tables of eating guests.
A big thing for me was the sachets of salt and pepper. What happens to the empty paper sachets, on a windy day? They are all blown into the sea!
My salmon ceviche was tiny, and not served with any bread. Pizzas are small. Small portions, but large prices, slow service. Management most unfriendly, but a great location on a sunny (not windy) day

They recently opened and serve great fresh food in Tapas style and provide a full wine list, cocktails etc... great chillout place including awesome views, tidal pool... The chef is around and very helpful - so going there is highly recommended

Ficks has a great vibe. It is tucked into the rocks and wraps around Ficks Pool. We came across Ficks while out for a stroll along the cliff path and it was the perfect time to stop for sundowners and some Pinchos (appetizers).
The manager was very welcoming and told us that Ficks is owned by the same people who own renowned “Dutchies “ on Grotto Beach. Our server was fashionably dressed and provided great service with a smile.
We shared their calamari and our drinks hit the spot. It was a little chilly so they’re provided blankets to keep warm.

Called in for lunch. Nice welcome and as the restaurant wasn’t very busy we had a choice of tables. So far so good. We had to wait quite a long time to order despite many wait staff passing our table, most of them looking everywhere except at us. Food took quite a while to arrive. It was good, just as expected. But as my wife said “why is it so hard so hard to have a few simple dishes” Maybe it’s because it’s new, so give them a chance to sort themselves out.

We overnighted in Hermanus and were sent an image of Ficks by a friend in Cape Town along with a clear instruction "you must go there". We followed the advice and had a superb evening. The setting is unrivaled and we were fortunate to get there on a perfect evening. Cold tequila, good food, friendly owners and staff made for an unforgettable experience. We enjoyed the visit from the owner and visited their sister restaurant, Dutchies, the following morning as a result of our interaction. We are from Knysna and will be sure to return to Ficks when next in Hermanus.

Beautiful outdoor setting with great views of the sea. Service is really very good, Charmaine was a pleasure. Good food and wine selection. We had fillet(served rare), calamari, el clasico, prawns, beetroot salad and then we had the ganache- what a special treat! Will be back

We went for lunch. Service was good and the setting great! But, oh dear... the calamari was overcooked, cold and rubbery. The chicken wings were nice but also cold. The vat beer was as ordered - .
This place has great potential but the food was so-so.

Exceptional service, exceptional food, extremely helpful pleasant staff, we visit Ficks on Friday for lunch having on of our family members in a wheelchair can sometimes be a challenge, how surprise we where the owner ensured wheelchair access to this beautiful venue, I will highly recommend this Gem to anyone including fellow wheelchair families. Best service and food... thank you Ficks keep it up.

What a stunning view. Unfortunately cocktails below average as the Pina Colada separated. Food was overpriced, but luckily the portions were small because the food was so tasteless and oily, we didn’t eat much of it. The pool is also dirty. It wouldn’t cost a lot to just have someone maintain it once a day. Overall, I would say your best bet is a cocktail sundowner here (just not the pina colada) followed by Steers on the way home.

The relatively new restaurant at Ficks pool has changed the area from a seedy hideout to a place that will be popular with tourists and locals. Although we found the prices to be rather expensive it wa ideal for a birthday celebration. Food and service were good.
