We have been visiting Mogg’s for quite a few years and can honestly say that we have always had exceptional meals and service. Julia and her team are fabulous and the food is simply delicious. We always look forward to our visits and will continue...to be regular visitors. Beautiful setting, not pretentious and highly recommended.More

Moggs was recommended after a horse riding experience and it didn’t disappoint. We were the second table dining on the day so perhaps the previous reviewer was unlucky. This is not fast food but has children’s choices and a play area to entertain. The food...was delicious and prepared was care and attention. The service was attentive and very personal. Would very much recommend and hope to visit again.More

We arrived and we waited a while to order and once we had ordered we waited around an 1 hour and a half to receive our food. We were only offered bread after the main meals arrived when the 5 kids still had to wait...for there food when adults had already received it. The service was terrible and not acceptable ,when the kids received there order of ribs they got the wrong portion size. Once we got the bill they had to hand write it which took another 15 minutes, once we asked the cashier if we could have a discount they said “well you ate your food so there will be no refunds” I went to the toilet and found there was dirty floors and writing on the door and there was no lock on the door and hardly any privacy. The worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Do not waste your time.More

Off the beaten track but no need for a 4 wheel drive. 20 mins off the main road from Hermanus. Friendly team with inside and outside seating. Food was excellent. Stunning countryside. Well worth the visit to this hidden gem

Been eating at Moggs for many years on visits to South Africa. It is always superb. A simple menu that is never pretentious plus great service. The pork belly was amazing. The views are spectacular too. Recommended.

You know that feeling when you eat something incredibly delicious but also healthful, so you feel happy and revived? I believe that's the taste of food when it's been made with love. The detour we had to make to get there was well rewarded by...the peaceful setting and gracious hosting. Everyone around us was also having a wonderful time. The cookhouse is old school and homey but the food was fresh and the quality of ingredients shined through, with the use of flavours showing a deep knowledge of pairings. Well worth the extra time to get there!More

Popped in for a late lunch, no booking. Very cozy restaurant with an open fire. Friendly service. Shortish but good menu which seems to be focused on local ingredients. Washed it all down with a bottle of local Pinot. Will definitely be back again.

We have been eating at Moggs 4 or so times a year for the past decade or more. The food is invariably of a high quality and the menu changes with the seasons. Julia (the chef) has been cooking the food since it first opened...and contrary to some recent reviews is talented and creates dishes that are flavourful and well presented. The food is always prepared freshly so when the restaurant is busy it make take a while to arrive but it will be worth the wait. Service is friendly and attentive. The setting overlooking the Hemel and Aarde valley is stunning, and the surrounding garden (on a sunny day) very attractive. The wine list is made up of local wines and whilst brief offers a good choice. Prices are comparable to those locally and in international terms very reasonable. The drive to the restaurant takes a while (especially with the current road works) but the effort is worth it. Don’t take too much notice of the odd negative review, this place is worth visiting and the reviews say more about the reviewers than they do this restaurant. PS only lunches.More

We had such a lovely afternoon at Moggs. It’s a lovely place off the beaten track with the most amazing views of the countryside. Staff were welcoming and friendly and service was excellent. It’s obviously very popular as within half an hour of it opening...the whole place was full. Food choices were explained and choice was good. It was hard to make a decision as there were so many nice things on the menu. We chose the mussels and beetroot fritters to start followed by the rolled beef and chicken fillets - all were excellent. The chocolate pot for dessert was also a hit! I have to disagree with the previous review from Queenbee re the cost. We had plenty to eat, 2 glasses of wine and a g&t and the bill was £45 total!! Exceptional value for exceptional fayre. I would definitely recommend and return.More

I feel duped. I read the reviews this morning and insisted my friend and I visit this establishment. We both are food lovers, and are not afraid to spend money on a great fine dining establishment. For R1000 for a lunch for two (one glass...of wine) this meal was entirely disappointing and underwhelming. My lamb shank was roasted until it was dry, over cooked and covered over with a balsamic glaze or jus that just wasn't the juice it was cooked in or as described on the menu. It's described as Slow roasted lamb shank on roasted carrot potato mash with basil, feta & garlic sauce. My friends food was as she described it "not nice at all" - and just as disappointing to her. Her "risotto" was a pile of rice with peas, that seemed squashed into a cup and turned out on the plate. It was collapsed and sloppy. The service was slow and you had several servers serving the table which was very confusing. The flat white coffee was an Americano, and the tea pot lid broken. When I open the lid, it had a tea strainer for tea leaves but the strainer was stuffed with a tea bag. I was assured "it's still doing it's job of steeping" - my tea cup was chipped. Here's my theory, this place once upon a time had a good chef, when maybe these rave reviews were deserved. Now, a chef is definitely not making or plating my food and I'm still being charged fine dining prices for a meal that home cooking beats. When the bill arrived the waitress sat down at the table with us and charged our card. So what are you? Fine dining, casual? I'm confused. At that price I expect closer to fine dining than lunch time pub.More

Second visit to this lovely restaurant. It reminds me a lot of a Bistro in the French countryside. Food is great, relaxed atmosphere and unique. We had a lovely waitress, and service was great. Can bring your own wine (corkage). Menu changes seasonally. Recommended.

Two of us had the Maroccan beef short rib and noodles. Meat was tender and juicy and the spices lifted it to a next level. My wife had fish cakes. She was hsppy and no complaints. Our friends wife had the calamari - also tasty...and tender. Service was slow, but we enjoyed our conversation and it was worth our while to wait for our foodMore
